Integrating Balanced Scorecard And Simulation Modelling To Improve Emergency Department Performance In Irish Hospitals, Amr Arisha, Waleed Abo-Hamad, Khaled Ismail Dec 2010

Integrating Balanced Scorecard And Simulation Modelling To Improve Emergency Department Performance In Irish Hospitals, Amr Arisha, Waleed Abo-Hamad, Khaled Ismail

Conference papers

In the healthcare sector, there is a requirement for innovative solutions in managing the high levels of complexity and uncertainty within Emergency Departments (EDs). Simulation modeling is currently seen as a competent means of analyzing EDs, which allows changes effects to be understood and predicted more easily. The Balanced Scorecard (BSC), well-known performance management concept, has become a steering method in approaching new improvement cycles. This paper presents a methodology that integrates BSC and simulation modeling to improve the performance of ED in a University Hospital in North Dublin. BSC design began with understanding patient's needs, ED activities, as well …

Crop Production Comparison With Spray, Lepa, And Subsurface Drip Irrigation In The Texas High Plains, Paul D. Colaizzi, Steven R. Evett, T. A. Howell, R. L. Baumhardt Dec 2010

Crop Production Comparison With Spray, Lepa, And Subsurface Drip Irrigation In The Texas High Plains, Paul D. Colaizzi, Steven R. Evett, T. A. Howell, R. L. Baumhardt

United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications

Irrigation application method may affect crop yield and water productivity. Crop production was compared for spray, LEPA drag sock, and subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) application methods in the Texas High Plains. Crops included three seasons of grain sorghum, one season of soybean, and four seasons of cotton. Irrigation treatments were 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100% of replacing full crop evapotranspiration, which was measured by neutron probe. For grain sorghum, SDI resulted in the largest grain yield and water use efficiency at the 25 and 50% irrigation treatments, followed by LEPA, but spray outperformed LEPA and SDI at the 75 …

A Study Of Some Biological Aspects Of Procellio Scaber(Isopoda : Porcellionidae) Latrellile 1804in Al-Jadriyia Region /Baghdad-Iraq, Haifa J. Jewaire, Suad Majeed Hassan

Baghdad Science Journal

A study of some biological aspects of the crustacean Isopod procellio scaber was carried out for the period April 2003 to march 2004 . The study consisted reproductive and morphological characteristies such as size , weight and length of the body . The result showed that the highest population density of P. scaber was 1120 individual/m2 in September 2003 and less density 403 ind/m2 in February 2004. The density was generally high in Spring and Autumn, low in Summer and Winter months. An increase of the sexual ratio appear in the females number compared to males number (p < 0.05) during most of year. Present study showed non significant increase in the length and dry weight for females compared to males in most of year months. There were two seasons for reproduction, first starts in February to the ends of August, the second season starts in September,to the end in January. A number of Juveniles recorded during most time of year. While the percentage decreased during the Winter months and nearly disappeared during December. The large size individuals dominated during the Spring season which may be due to their rapid growth. The results showed that the moult individuals in different sizes class present for most year months, in large numbers small sizes class include due to their rapid growth. Life cycle data showed four biological stages: eggs, Manca, Juvenile and Mature stages. The female put between (2-70) eggs per each breed. There is one or tow breed for female in year.

Effect Of Temperature On Viability Of Human Hydatid Cyst & Study The Volume Of Hydatid Cyst, Ismail Abdel Al-Hadithi, Maisam Balasm Al-Khamesi

Baghdad Science Journal

The hydatid materials were collected and studied, so they were contained 50 fertile human hydatid cases {33 (66%) females and 17 (34%) males}. They were collected from Al-Ramadi General Hospital during the period from December, 2003 to July, 2004 .Cysts were observed in 40 (80%) from the liver, 5 (10%) from the lungs, 3 (6%) from the kidney and 2 (4%) cysts from urinary bladder. The specimens were taken from patients of different ages. The in vitro viability of protoscoleces was assessed on the basis of flame cell activity and eosein exclusion, which were considered as criteria to determine the …

Pre-Test Single And Double Stage Shrunken Estimators For The Mean Of Normal Distribution With Known Variance, Abbas Najim Salman Dec 2010

Pre-Test Single And Double Stage Shrunken Estimators For The Mean Of Normal Distribution With Known Variance, Abbas Najim Salman

Baghdad Science Journal

This paper is concerned with pre-test single and double stage shrunken estimators for the mean (μ) of normal distribution when a prior estimate (μ0) of the actule value (μ) is available, using specifying shrinkage weight factors ψ(-) as well as pre-test region (R). Expressions for the Bias [B(-)], mean squared error [MSE(-)], Efficiency [EFF(-)] and Expected sample size [E(n/μ)] of proposed estimators are derived. Numerical results and conclusions are drawn about selection different constants included in these expressions. Comparisons between suggested estimators, with respect to classical estimators in the sense of Bias and Relative Efficiency, are given. Furthermore, comparisons with …

The Israeli Armored Paradigm In The Yom Kippur War: An Evaluation, Joseph C. Leonhardt Dec 2010

The Israeli Armored Paradigm In The Yom Kippur War: An Evaluation, Joseph C. Leonhardt

Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects

The Yom Kippur War of 1973 saw Israel suffer nearly twice the casualties and triple the duration of the previous war. This is in contradiction to the fact that Israel, following its spectacular success in the Six-Day War of 1967, was in a far better position than it had been in 1967. This work will analyze the problem of Armor preeminence in the Israeli Defense Force first to prove the existence of preeminence, then to qualify its effect in the war and then to qualify its importance in the differing factors between the 1967 and 1973 Wars. This will be …
