Global, Rural, & Cultural Health Book Series
The challenges faced by local, national, and global communities in an ever-changing world have continued to grow as we complete the first decade of the 21st century. The doctoral students writing this book undertook the effort with advocacy for disenfranchised populations in mind. This compilation illuminates the challenges and gaps in access to health care confronted by a wide range of people, from overweight children, lesbians, and Native Americans to individuals in rural communities in Papua New Guinea. As the reader can readily see, we are a group of students with wide-ranging experiences and interests.

Vincentian Studies
Niagara University has been aiding the surrounding impoverished community since 1965 with its service initiative, the Niagara University Community Action Program (NUCAP). The university also offers courses that incorporate service learning components in partnership with NUCAP. Service learning is defined and its benefits, especially to the students, are discussed. The ways in which students, faculty, and staff are made aware of and called to engage in the school’s Vincentian mission are described. The student-run NUCAP has made many students and alumni into effective leaders for service, social responsibility, and social change. Some are profiled. Staff service projects are also highlighted.

Quaker Activity In Ramallah: 1869 -1914, Catherine C. B. Baylin
Theses and Dissertations
The story of the Quakers in Ramallah is one thread of the complex tapestry of Arab-American relations in the 19th and early 20th centuries. American Quakers first traveled to the region in 1869 to establish schools and medical outreach. By the early twentieth century, Quakers were running half a dozen day schools with more than 250 students and spots in their boarding schools were highly coveted. "[This year's] accomplishments speak to our commitment to excellence and our commitment to the university’s mission. As we reach record breaking enrollment levels in many of our programs, we can credit the wonderful work of our faculty and staff who provide our students with quality experiences that prepare them for leadership roles in their professions and build the reputation of our programs"--From Dean Patricia Walker's introductory message to this issue of Reflections.
