Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

In January of 2004, Argentina approved a new immigration law that guaranteed the protection of human rights for all immigrants in the country regardless of their legal status with the State. Among the rights explicitly guaranteed by this law were the right to migrate, the right to education and the right to health care. While this law represents a significant advance by the Argentine government in protecting the human rights of immigrants, oppressive mechanisms still remain in everyday practices that inhibit actual access to their rights.

Considering the changes in the law and the breach between the laws and everyday …

Amor Revolucionario: La Educación En Las Escuelas De Reingreso En Buenos Aires, Argentina., Cara Tratner

Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

Ending Generational Poverty: A Contemporary Application Of The Work Of Paulo Freire In Nicaragua, Los Angeles And Uganda, Nicole Broom

Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

Public Administration: Local Government And Decentralization In Ghana, Kwame B. Antwi-Boasiako Oct 2010

Public Administration: Local Government And Decentralization In Ghana, Kwame B. Antwi-Boasiako

Faculty Publications

Public administration as an art is defined in the Ghanaian context regarding decentralization and public officials’ accountability. It examines decentralization, local elections and empowerment. While the paper advocates for regional and district level elections, it uses the literature to argue that local representatives are more accessible to their locals. It questions the current appointment practices by the central government, which has become more partisan than originally intended in the Local Government Act. To affirm the democratic environment of politics in Ghana, it calls for constitutional amendment regarding decentralization and local government elections.

Participants reported mostly positive perceptions of self-esteem, global physical self-concept, endurance, body fat, sport competence, strength, flexibility, and physical activity (Ms ranging from 3.9 to 5.6 out of 6). Correlations indicated a number of significant relationships among self-esteem …

A Challenge To Smes: Creating Creative Ways To Attract Talent, Knowledge@Smu Oct 2010

A Challenge To Smes: Creating Creative Ways To Attract Talent, Knowledge@Smu

Knowledge@SMU

For many small and medium enterprises, finding, attracting and retaining the right talent is a perpetual challenge. Save for perception issues that are unlikely to go away anytime soon – that the smaller businesses don't pay as well or offer as many opportunities as their large multinational counterparts – these enterprises have much to learn about attracting talent with limited resources. Helen Lim, a social entrepreneur and human resources consultant, believes that the smaller companies may not be able to compete on price and prestige, but they can certainly afford to raise their game. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
