The Adsl Router Forensics Process, Patryk Szewczyk

Research outputs pre 2011

In 2010 the number of threats targeting ADSL routers is continually increasing. New and emergent threats have been developed to bypass authentication processes and obtain admin privileges directly to the device. As a result many malicious attempts are being made to alter the configuration data and make the device subsequently vulnerable. This paper discusses the non-invasive digital forensics approach into extracting evidence from ADSL routers. Specifically it validates an identified digital forensic process of acquisition. The paper then discusses how the approach may be utilised to extract configuration data ever after a device has been compromised to the point where …

Adaptive Multi/Demultiplexers For Optical Signals With Arbitrary Wavelength Spacing, Feng Xiao, Kamal Alameh Jan 2010

Adaptive Multi/Demultiplexers For Optical Signals With Arbitrary Wavelength Spacing, Feng Xiao, Kamal Alameh

Research outputs pre 2011

We propose and demonstrate the principle of a novel adaptive wavelength division multiplexer/demultiplexer structure based on Opto-VLSI processing. By driving an Opto-VLSI processor with an appropriate phase hologram, optical signals of arbitrary wavelengths from different input fiber ports can be multiplexed into a common output fiber port. In addition, wavelength division multiplexed channels of arbitrary wavelength spacings can also be demultiplexed and dynamically routed into arbitrary output fiber ports. A proof-of-principle 1×3 adaptive multiplexer/demultiplexers is experimentally demonstrated.

A Zebrafish Melanophore Model Of Amyloid (Beta) Toxicity, Morgan Newman, Lachlan Wilson, Esther Camp, Giuseppe Verdile, Ralph Martins, Michael Lardelli

Research outputs pre 2011

Reliable animal models are required to facilitate the understanding of neurodegenerative pathways in Alzheimer’s disease. Animal models can also be employed to search for disease-modifying drugs. The embryos and larvae of zebrafish are particularly advantageous for this purpose. For Alzheimer’s disease, drugs that can ameliorate amyloidb (Ab) toxicity have therapeutic and=or prophylactic potential. We attempted to generate a zebrafish model of Ab toxicity that would be viable and fertile but have a highly visible pigmentation phenotype in larvae. The larvae could then be arrayed in microtiter plates to screen compound libraries for drugs acting to reduce Ab toxicity. We used …

Research outputs pre 2011

Apologies are known to play an important role in the resolution of discrimination and harassment complaints brought under equal opportunity legislation. Sometimes parties agree on an apology as a term on the basis of which a complaint is settled. Occasionally, where a complaint is not settled, a respondent will be ordered to apologize. The ability to order an apology is a distinctive feature of equal opportunity law in Australia. The aim of the researchers was to gather information on the role of apologies in the equal opportunity jurisdiction in Western Australia. Twenty-four complainants and respondents took part in semi-structured interviews. …

The Development Of A Video Task Of Remedial Behaviour To Use In Communication Training Of Health Professionals With Specific Reference To Open Disclosure Practice, Dianne Mckillop, Alfred Allan, Julian Dooley

Research outputs pre 2011

The National Open Disclosure Standard requires health professionals (hereafter professionals) to disclose errors in the course of their practice. There is, however, evidence that some professionals are reluctant to do so because they are uncertain about how to engage in open disclosure communications in general and, specifically, how to do it in a legally appropriate manner. One way of addressing this problem is to train professionals in disclosing errors to patients and their families in ways that meet their psychological needs as well as the legal requirements. Although preferable, the comprehensive training of all professionals in appropriate open disclosure practices …

Skill Acquisition In Skin Cancer Detection, Craig Speelman, Katie Martin, Steven Flower, Terry Simpson

Research outputs pre 2011

Previous research has shown that the ability to detect potentially dangerous skin lesions is not improved by viewing a pamphlet describing the characteristic features of such lesions. A different approach to improving this skill was investigated in this study. 100 student recruits were tested to investigate the effect of practice at distinguishing between dangerous and nondangerous skin lesions. Around 30 minutes of such practice, viewing 360 pictures of skin lesions, provided a significant advantage in making decisions about a target set of dangerous and nondangerous lesions, compared to no practice or practice with a filler task. Viewing a skin cancer …

Research outputs pre 2011

Background Cutaneous Malignant Melanoma is an aggressive form of skin cancer, arising in cutaneous melanocytes. The transcription factor PAX3 regulates melanocyte specification from neural crest cells during development but expression in differentiated melanocytes is uncertain. By contrast it is frequently found in melanomas and naevi and is a marker for melanoma staging and detection. In this study we analysed the expression of PAX3 across the spectrum of melanocytic cells, from normal melanocytes to cells of benign and malignant lesions to better assess its function in these various tissues. Pax3 and PAX3 (italicized) refer to the mouse and human gene, respectively; …

The Use Of Narrative Fiction To Spread Hiv Information In Papua New Guinea, Trevor Cullen, Ruth Callaghan

Research outputs pre 2011

The nature of media coverage of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) needs to vary in order to be sustained by newspapers—writing the same message, however worthy, loses impact over time. So an interesting innovation in the 2010 coverage of HIV in Papua New Guinea (PNG) is the publication of a serialised fiction story in the Post-Courier . It is the story of Vavine, a young girl infected with HIV , who is forced to leave her village after her parents' deaths from AIDS . She keeps her infection secret but because of her circumstances, she is forced to work in a …

Turban Snails As Habitat For Foliose Algae: Contrasting Geographical Patterns In Species Richness, Thomas Wernberg, Fernando Tuya, Mads Thomsen, Gary Kendrick

Research outputs pre 2011

Understanding patterns of species richness is a major goal for ecologists, especially in space-limited habitats where many organisms live on top of others (epibiosis, e.g. by algae growing on gastropods in marine environments). We tested the hypotheses that species richness of epiflora on the gastropod Turbo torquatus would not differ between regions with similarly rich algal floras, and that epifloral richness would increase with increasing gastropod size. Macroalgal floras of Hamelin Bay (HB), Marmion (M), Jurien Bay (JB) and Kalbarri (K), Western Australia, ranged from ~20 to 40 species reef–1 (JB = HB = M ≥ K). Epiflora on small …

Organizational Ethics: The Ethical Beliefs Of Marketing Managers In Trinidad And Tobago, Mohammed Y. A. Rawwas

AMTP Proceedings 2010

As a result of the recent corporate scandals involving Bernard Madoff, AIG, Enron, WorldCom, Tyco, Health- South, Martha Stewart, and the Wall Street analysts and the accounting firms (such as Arthur Andersen) that supported them, a growing concern has emerged about the quality of today's marketing managers' ethical beliefs. Epistemologists contend that belief is an ethical process that is susceptible to the intellectual virtue or vice of one's own life and personal experiences. Open-mindedness, curiosity, careful thinking, creativity, and intellectual courage are the foundations of epistemic virtues. Closed-mindedness, intellectual overconfidence, intellectual conformity, and wishful thinking are among epistemic vices. The …
