Hepatitis D: Scenario In The Asia-Pacific Region, Z Abbas, Wasim Jafri, Sajjad Raza
Department of Medicine
Hepatitis D virus (HDV) infection is present worldwide and affects all age groups. Around 18 million people are estimated to be infected with HDV. An important trend in HDV infection is global decline. HDV prevalence has decreased significantly in Europe since the 1970s and 1980s when it was first reported. The Asia-Pacific region now seems to be where HDV is a major health concern. There is a lack of available data from most of the countries from this region, hence, the true status of HDV cannot be determined. In South Asia, most of the countries have conditions that are favorable …

Changes In Beliefs And Perceptions About The Natural Environment In The Forest-Savanna Transitional Zone Of Ghana: The Influence Of Religion, Paul Sarfo-Mensah, William Oduro
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
The potential of traditional natural resources management for biodiversity conservation and the improvement of sustainable rural livelihoods is no longer in doubt. In sub-Saharan Africa, extensive habitat destruction, degradation, and severe depletion of wildlife, which have seriously reduced biodiversity and undermined the livelihoods of many people in rural communities, have been attributed mainly to the erosion of traditional strategies for natural resources management. In Ghana, recent studies point to an increasing disregard for traditional rules and regulations, beliefs and practices that are associated with natural resources management. Traditional natural resources management in many typically indigenous communities in Ghana derives from …

School of Nursing & Midwifery, East Africa
Background: Migration of health professionals from low and middle income countries to rich countries is a large scale and long-standing phenomenon, which is detrimental to the health systems in the donor countries. We sought to explore the extent of psychiatric migration.
Methods: In our study, we use the respective professional databases in each country to establish the numbers of psychiatrists currently registered in the UK, US, New Zealand, and Australia who originate from other countries. We also estimate the impact of this migration on the psychiatrist population ratios in the donor countries.
Findings: We document large numbers of psychiatrists currently …

The Demise Of Development In The Doha Round Negotiations, Sungjoon Cho
The Demise Of Development In The Doha Round Negotiations, Sungjoon Cho
All Faculty Scholarship
This article provides a concise history of the Doha Round negotiation, analyzes its deadlock, and offers some suggestions for a successful Doha deal and for developing countries. The article observes that the nearly decade-long negotiation stalemate is symptomatic of diametrically opposed perceptions of the nature of the Round between developed and developing countries. While developed countries appear to be increasingly oblivious to Doha’s original genesis, developing countries vehemently condemn their narrow commercial focus in the Doha Round talks. It will not be easy to untie this Gordian knot since both developed and developing countries tend to think that no deal …
