Examination Of Locus Of Control, Health Locus Of Control And Their Key Predictors In Urban Vs. Rural Populations, Mark T. Zimmerman Dec 2010

Examination Of Locus Of Control, Health Locus Of Control And Their Key Predictors In Urban Vs. Rural Populations, Mark T. Zimmerman

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

The purpose of this study was to utilize a quantitative survey methodology, which explored the characteristicsof locus of control and health locus of control between a rural Tennessee population and an urban Tennessee population using scores from Rotter's Internal-External Locus of Control Scale (LOC) and the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale (HLOC). The results of this study help bridge the gap in the limited studies available that use LOC and HLOC to explore the differences between the two populations. Demographic information on the survey (age, gender, race, annual household income, size of household, level of education, spirituality) and the …

Proposed Hsc Governance Regents Policy Revisions, Unm University Counsel Dec 2010

Proposed Hsc Governance Regents Policy Revisions, Unm University Counsel

Faculty Senate Documents

Attached is a packet of proposed revised Regents policies pertaining to the HSC Governance reorganization proposal. After careful review, the Policy Office concluded that the earlier format of proposed revisions to Regent Policy 2.13 (which was originally presented to the Regents on November 16, 2010 and integrated a range of policy modifications into a single and very lengthy policy), was confusing and administratively burdensome. Therefore, the previously circulated Regent Policy 2.13 has been replaced by four separate proposed Regent policies, RPM\xa7\xa7 3.4 through 3.7. The general structure of the Health Sciences Center, as well as the role of the new …

Sovereignty And Cooperative Management Of Shared Water Resources In A Time Of Shrinking Availability: The Role Of International Law, Stephen C. Mccaffrey Dec 2010

Sovereignty And Cooperative Management Of Shared Water Resources In A Time Of Shrinking Availability: The Role Of International Law, Stephen C. Mccaffrey

McGeorge School of Law Other Faculty Works

It is a commonplace today that per capita availability of fresh water is shrinking. In addition, it is well known that some 60 per cent of global freshwater flows are contained in the 263 river basins that are shared by two or more countries, and that around 40 per cent of the human population lives in these international basins. These facts underscore the necessity of cooperation between states sharing fresh water, whether it is on the surface or underground. And yet internal political forces often lead countries to maximize their use of shared water resources without considering adequately the needs …

The Effects Of Whole Body Vibration On Strength Gains In The Bench Press, The Back Squat, And The Power Clean In Division I Football Players, Kelly S. Poppinga Dec 2010

The Effects Of Whole Body Vibration On Strength Gains In The Bench Press, The Back Squat, And The Power Clean In Division I Football Players, Kelly S. Poppinga

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to determine if whole body vibration effects strength gains in the bench press, the back squat, and the power clean in division 1 football players. Thirty-one NCAA Division 1 male football players volunteered for this study and were randomly assigned to a control group (C=16) or one of two vibration groups (V1=7, V2=8). Subjects followed the training program for eight weeks. A pre-test, mid-test, and post-test one repetition max was measured at 0, 4, and 8 weeks for the bench press, the back squat, and the power clean. A 3x3 factorial ANOVA revealed varied …

Sensitivity To Consonantal Context In Reading English Vowels: The Case Of Arabic Learners, Ruth Elizabeth Stein Dec 2010

Sensitivity To Consonantal Context In Reading English Vowels: The Case Of Arabic Learners, Ruth Elizabeth Stein

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Both experimental and anecdotal evidence document the difficulty Arabic learners of English demonstrate when learning to read and write in English. The complex phoneme-grapheme mapping rules for English may explain this difficulty in part, but the question remains why Arabic learners in particular have difficulty decoding English. This dissertation attempts to pinpoint what specific sub-word processes may contribute to this observed difficulty Arabic learners of English commonly experience. Vowel processing is an appropriate place to begin given the inconsistency of the grapheme-phoneme mapping rules for English vowels. The statisical patterns of the English language itself for the relationship between the …

Optimal Tuning Of System Stabilizer Parameters Using Pbil With Adaptive Learning Rate, K. A. Folly, Ganesh K. Venayagamoorthy Dec 2010

Optimal Tuning Of System Stabilizer Parameters Using Pbil With Adaptive Learning Rate, K. A. Folly, Ganesh K. Venayagamoorthy

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

This paper presents an optimal tuning of Power System Stabilizers (PSS) for a multi-machine power system using Population-Based Incremental Learning (PBIL) algorithm with adaptive learning rate. the proposed (APBIL) algorithm can adjust the learning rate automatically according to the degree of evolution of the search. the objective of the design is to achieve adequate stability over a wide range of operating conditions. the proposed controller is compared with traditional PBIL with fixed learning rate (PBIL) and tested under various operating conditions. Simulation results show that the APBIL based PSS provides a more efficient search capability and gives a better damping …

Gms Considering Uncertainty In Wind Power In A Wind-Hydrothermal Power System, Y. Yare, Ganesh K. Venayagamoorthy Dec 2010

Gms Considering Uncertainty In Wind Power In A Wind-Hydrothermal Power System, Y. Yare, Ganesh K. Venayagamoorthy

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

An optimal preventive generator maintenance scheduling (GMS) in a smart grid environment comprising wind-hydrothermal energy resources is presented in this paper. GMS problem is solved with the aim of maximizing economic benefits subject to satisfying system constraints. This GMS formulation becomes a challenging problem because of the variability and intermittency of wind speed and the incorporation of uncertainty in wind generation. the objective is to perform preventive GMS in such a manner that the annual generation cost is minimized, the annual cost saving is increased while all operating constraints are satisfied in the presence of uncertainty in wind generation. Discrete …
