Speech-Language Pathologists' Application Of Learning Styles During Clinical Intervention, Crystal Mcdaniel Dec 2010

Speech-Language Pathologists' Application Of Learning Styles During Clinical Intervention, Crystal Mcdaniel

Student Theses and Dissertations

This study examined the preferred modes of learning and teaching of speech-language pathologists (SLPs). The purpose of the study was to determine if SLPs' learning style influences their delivery of therapeutic intervention. Using the Visual, Aural, Read-Write, and Kinesthetic (VARK) questionnaire and observation of SLPs during clinical intervention, the preferred mode(s) of learning and teaching for nine SLPs was determined. Results indicated that study participants did not prefer one particular mode of learning over another, nor were there significant differences in their teaching style. In addition results indicated that SLPs' preferred mode(s) of learning and teaching were independent of one …

Preservation And Growth Strategies For The Randolph County Archives Of Oral History: Using The Oral History Evaluation Guidelines To Improve A Pre-Existing Program, Derek Allen Clements Dec 2010

Preservation And Growth Strategies For The Randolph County Archives Of Oral History: Using The Oral History Evaluation Guidelines To Improve A Pre-Existing Program, Derek Allen Clements

Student Theses and Dissertations

Founded in 2006 in Pocahontas, Arkansas, the Randolph County of Oral History (RCAOH) sough to collect the stories of Randolph County's elderly residents in conjunction with the Pocahontas sesquicentennial celebration. After the formation of the Randolph County Heritage Museum (RCHM), the RCAOH was placed under its care. The success of programs and displays developed at the RCHM overshadowed the RCAOH. Forgotten, it was left virtually unattended. Attempting to salvage the program, Clements used the Oral History Association's Oral History and Evaluation Guidelines to analyze the condition of the RCAOH. Identifying a number of areas for improvement, plans were developed to …

The Impact Of Multiple Viewings Of Educational Television Programming On Young Children's Acquisition Of Basic Concepts And Social Interaction Skills, Brandi Worthington Dec 2010

The Impact Of Multiple Viewings Of Educational Television Programming On Young Children's Acquisition Of Basic Concepts And Social Interaction Skills, Brandi Worthington

Student Theses and Dissertations

This study investigated the effect that educational television viewing had on young children's knowledge of basic concepts and social interaction skills. In order to accomplish this purpose, two groups of children were assembled. Groups were matched for gender and age. Group one consisted of children from a tightly-knit religious sect whose families and culture were opposed to specific types of technology, such as television. Group two consisted of children from families who were not opposed to viewing television per se and that had been exposed to educational television. The Wiig Assessment of Basic Concepts (WABC) and Play Observation Scale (POS) …

Identifying Potential Applications For Lamina Emergent Mechanisms And Evaluating Their Suitability For Credit-Card-Sized Products, Nathan Bryce Albrechtsen Dec 2010

Identifying Potential Applications For Lamina Emergent Mechanisms And Evaluating Their Suitability For Credit-Card-Sized Products, Nathan Bryce Albrechtsen

Theses and Dissertations

Lamina emergent mechanisms (LEMs) are a maturing technology that is prepared for commercial implementation into new products. LEMs are defined by three functional characteristics; they (1) are compliant, (2) are fabricated from planar materials, and (3) emerge from a flat initial state. Advantages, design challenges, and design tools are described for each of the functional characteristics. Opportunities for LEMs are discussed, namely disposable LEMs, novel arrays of LEMs, scaled LEMs, LEMs with surprising motion, shock absorbing LEMs, and deployable LEMs. Technology push product development processes were employed to select applications for LEMs. LEM technology was characterized. In a LEM workshop, …

Process To Produce High Surface Area Nanoparticle Vanadium Phosphorus Oxide Catalyst And Product Derives Thereof, Yun Hin Taufiq-Yap, Ali A. Rownaghi

Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

An improved process to produce high surface area nanoparticle vanadium phosphorus oxide catalysts comprises the steps of reducing vanadium-containing compounds in an alcohol solution selected from the group consisting of isobutanol and benzyl alcohol and any combination derives thereof under reflux for 4 to 6 hours to form a suspended mixture; reacting dopants and phosphorus-containing compounds to the suspended mixture under reflux for 30 minutes to 3 hours to form precursors of the vanadium phosphorus oxide catalysts; drying the formed precursors; and calcining the dried precursors in a flow of gaseous n-butane/air mixture at 400 to 460° C. to form …

Hybrid Micro-/Nanogels For Optical Sensing And Intracellular Imaging, Weitai Wu, Shuiqin Zhou Dec 2010

Hybrid Micro-/Nanogels For Optical Sensing And Intracellular Imaging, Weitai Wu, Shuiqin Zhou

Publications and Research

Hybrid micro-/nanogels are playing an increasing important part in a diverse range of applications, due to their tunable dimensions, large surface area, stable interior network structure, and a very short response time. We review recent advances and challenges in the developments of hybrid micro-/nanogels toward applications for optical sensing of pH, temperature, glucose, ions, and other species as well as for intracellular imaging. Due to their unique advantages, hybrid micro-/nanogels as optical probes are attracting substantial interests for continuous monitoring of chemical parameters in complex samples such as blood and bioreactor fluids, in chemical research and industry, and in food …

Drop-In Concurrent Api Replacement For Exploration, Test, And Debug, Everett Allen Morse Dec 2010

Drop-In Concurrent Api Replacement For Exploration, Test, And Debug, Everett Allen Morse

Theses and Dissertations

Complex concurrent APIs are difficult to reason about annually due to the exponential growth in the number of feasible schedules. Testing against reference solutions of these APIs is equally difficult as reference solutions implement an unknown set of allowed behaviors, and programmers have no way to directly control schedules or API internals to expose or reproduce errors. The work in this paper mechanically generates a drop-in replacement for a concurrent API from a formal specification. The specification is a guarded command system with first-order logic that is compiled into a core calculus. The term rewriting system is connected to actual …

China Beat Blog: Archive 2008-2012

James Carter, Professor of History at Saint Joseph’s University and Chief Editor of the journal Twentieth-Century China, has recently published Heart of Buddha, Heart of China: The Life of Tanxu, a Twentieth Century Monk (Oxford University Press). To explore the life and work of this extraordinary individual, Carter embarked on a series of “travels with Tanxu,” spending time in Buddhist temples from Harbin to Hong Kong (with stops in Qingdao, Ningbo, Yingkou, and Shanghai along the way). Here, in an excerpt from the prologue to his book, Carter explains the challenges he encountered in tracing the life of Tanxu, an …
