What's Your Pitch?, Connie I. Reimers-Hild
What's Your Pitch?, Connie I. Reimers-Hild
Kimmel Education and Research Center: Presentations and White Papers
We all need to have our "pitch" ready! This PowerPoint, when used with the corresponding worksheet of the same title (What's Your Pitch), walks people through the process of creating an Elevator Pitch or Quick Pitch for their idea, business or organization. In the global economy, it is important for all of us to be able to clearly communicate what we do so we can sell ourselves and help others understand the purpose of what we are working to accomplish. A great pitch has the power to help anyone...from a University employee to a new entrepreneur to a team working …

Catalytic Air Purification System, Xiaoling Ding
Catalytic Air Purification System, Xiaoling Ding
USF Patents
The instant invention provides for a gas purification system in which a reaction chamber combines with catalysts and heating to oxidize and reduce the compounds contained in a gas stream to oxygen and other non-deleterious components. By use of this system closed loop air systems can be effectively supplied with oxygen by chemically converting the volatile organic components to desired gasses and thereby remove unwanted contaminants.

Cookie Dough 2.0: Digital Sketchbook, Sue Leo
Theses
Cookie Dough 2.0 is a thesis documenting the graphic design branding journey of transforming cookie dough from simply a mixture of raw ingredients used in making chocolate chip cookies into a legitimate snack food. Graphic design was the critical factor in forming the brand character, packaging and marketing support materials. All concepts and final mechanicals were created digitally. Additionally, this thesis illustrates how the brand identity emerged through the many phases of product development.

Appendages, Emily Winton
Appendages, Emily Winton
Theses
Appendages explores my sexuality, identity and the concepts of heteronormativity, queer theory, and gender norms. Through the creation of sculptures called DilNO's, I was able to engage the audience in experiencing my interpretation of my own sexuality. By mocking and bending the concept of the dildo, I was challenging the stereotypes of gender, and lesbian sexuality and intimacy. The sensations of touching and feeling played a vital role in both the creation and presentation of the pieces in my thesis exhibition. Moving from my previous photographic work into the three-dimensional realm of sculpture helped me express the physical and sensual …

Experimental Evaluation Of Transmission Link Characteristics In Body Area Networks, Apoorva Kiran Pandya
Experimental Evaluation Of Transmission Link Characteristics In Body Area Networks, Apoorva Kiran Pandya
School of Computing: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Recent advances in digital electronics, embedded systems, and wireless communications have led the way to a new class of distributed Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). A Body Area Network (BAN) is a WSN consisting of miniaturized, low-power, autonomous, wireless biosensors, which are seamlessly placed or implanted in the human body to provide an adaptable and smart health care system. The possible applications of BAN are in health care services and medicine, assisting persons with disabilities, and entertainment and sports. The nodes in a BAN generally use IEEE 802.15.4 radios which have low- power consumption and are relatively immune to interference. In …

Improving Student Achievement Through Professional Learning Communities, Mindy L. Roberts
Department of Educational Administration: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
This study determined how general education teachers in a Midwestern school district perceived their personal skill level in working collaboratively and focusing on academic results while working in a Professional Learning Community (PLC). The overarching question for the research was: Do educator perceptions of their personal skill level in working collaboratively and focusing on academic results while implementing a Professional Learning Community have an effect on student achievement? The study looked at teacher perceptions within the three themes of PLCs: (a) assuring students learn at high levels, (b) creating a culture of collaboration, and (c) focusing on academic results. Student …

Rapidly Reconfigurable Slow-Light System Based On Off-Resonant Raman Absorption, Praveen K. Vudyasetu, Ryan M. Camacho, John C. Howell
Rapidly Reconfigurable Slow-Light System Based On Off-Resonant Raman Absorption, Praveen K. Vudyasetu, Ryan M. Camacho, John C. Howell
Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Faculty Articles and Research
We present a slow-light system based on dual Raman absorption resonances in warm rubidium vapor. Each Raman absorption resonance is produced by a control beam in an off-resonant Λ system. This system combines all optical control of the Raman absorption and the low-dispersion broadening properties of the double Lorentzian absorption slow light. The bandwidth, group delay, and central frequency of the slow-light system can all be tuned dynamically by changing the properties of the control beam. We demonstrate multiple pulse delays with low distortion and show that such a system has fast switching dynamics and thus fast reconfiguration rates.
