Progesterone Receptor Membrane Component-1 (PGRMC1) is present in both the cytoplasm and nucleus of spontaneously immortalized granulosa cells (SIGCs). PGRMC1 is detected as a monomer in the cytoplasm and a DTT-resistant PGRMC1 dimer in the nucleus. Transfected PGRMC1-GFP localizes mainly to the cytoplasm and does not form a DTT-resistant dimer. Moreover, forced expression of PGRMC1-GFP increases the sensitivity of the SIGCs to progesterone (P4) 's anti-apoptotic action, indicating that the PGRMC1 monomer is functional. However, when endogenous PGRMC1 is depleted by siRNA treatment and replaced with PGRMC1-GFP, P4 responsiveness is not enhanced, although overall levels of PGRMC1 are increased. P4's …
How Many Environmental Plaintiffs Are Still Standing?, Andrew D. Dorn
How Many Environmental Plaintiffs Are Still Standing?, Andrew D. Dorn
Seventh Circuit Review
Standing is easy to describe but difficult to apply. At a minimum, standing requires three elements: (1) injury-in-fact; (2) traceability to conduct of the defendant; and (3) that a favorable decision could provide redress for the injury. This Note outlines the development of the standing doctrine from Lujan v. Defenders of Wildlife through Summers v. Earth Island Institute and examines how several courts have applied this standard to their cases. It also analyzes Pollack v. Department of Justice. It proposes an approach that demands more than pleadings but removes the court's license to pre-litigate the merits of the case …

Using Advancements In Cable-Trapping To Overcome Barriers To Furbearer Management In The United States, Stephen Vantassel, Tim L. Hiller, Kelly D. J. Powell, Scott E. Hygnstrom

Harvest of furbearers through trapping has been challenged by anti-trapping organizations for centuries, with organizational goals often including prohibition of all forms of trapping. Challenges to trapping may also include dissention among state wildlife agencies, pro-hunting organizations, and pro-trapping organizations. Despite recent efforts by anti-trapping organizations and occasional dissention among consumptive-use groups, national trends in snaring regulations included less restrictive regulations through time. This positive trend may offer opportunities for state wildlife agencies and pro-trapping organizations to enhance the public image of trapping, increase recruitment of trappers, and reverse the increasing trend of wildlife damage and associated costs. We offer …

School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications
A largely unanswered question in the study of arboviruses is the extent to which virus can overwinter in adult vectors during the cold winter months and resume the transmission cycle in summer. Buggy Creek virus (BCRV; Togaviridae, Alphavirus) is an unusual arbovirus that is vectored primarily by the swallow bug (Hemiptera: Cimicidae: Oeciacus vicarius) and amplified by the ectoparasitic bug’s main avian hosts, the migratory cliff swallow (Petrochelidon pyrrhonota) and resident house sparrow (Passer domesticus). Bugs are sedentary and overwinter in the swallows’ mud nests. We evaluated the prevalence of BCRV and extent of …

Dance/Movement Therapy And Responsive Classroom: A Theoretical Synthesis, Shawna L. Solsvig
Dance/Movement Therapy And Responsive Classroom: A Theoretical Synthesis, Shawna L. Solsvig
Creative Arts Therapies Theses
This theoretical synthesis combines concepts from Chacian dance/movement therapy and the Responsive Classroom approach to teaching and learning, and suggests a proactive behavioral management style for dance/movement therapists that incorporates aspects from these two frameworks. For this synthesis, Chacian dance/movement therapy and Responsive Classroom techniques were adapted and implemented. Through combining these two methods, the researcher suggests a unique treatment model as a way to prevent and confront violent and aggressive behaviors of children that present in a dance/movement therapy session.

In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: For thou art with me…” We sit and recite these words that we know by heart, which seem to mean absolutely nothing to us right now. I look to my sister on my left; she looks back at me for reassurance. I give her a strong, stern look: We can do this. As the psalm, which does no justice in representing the reason we are here, is ending, my sister and I …

Transclusion Of Document Fragments From Dynamic Text, Manu Choudhury
Transclusion Of Document Fragments From Dynamic Text, Manu Choudhury
Theses
Transclusion is a concept that allows users to reuse document fragments from different source pages, not by duplicating it, but by including a reference to the original work. Thus, transclusion provides an interesting platform for authors to quote text from other documents in a way such that the quoted text can be compared alongside its original context, and changes in the original document are reflected automatically in the user document. Several researchers have partially implemented transclusion using various techniques and technologies. The issue of transcluding text from a dynamic source page still persists because dynamic content changes have not been …
A Place Of Origin, Jessica L. Foley
A Place Of Origin, Jessica L. Foley
Theses
History has always been an interest of mine, whether it was that of other cultures or my own, I have always loved learning about the lives of others. Currently, my work has stemmed from the concept of the forgotten or lost memory and the importance that my heritage and the legacy of my family has upon me. The exploration of this connection between my past and my present has led me to experiment with, not only my knowledge of my own heritage, but also to delve into the history of more traditional methods of expression and creativity. Stemming from this …
The Transformation Of Persons And The Concept Of Moral Order: A Study Of The Evangelical Ethics Of Oliver O'Donovan With Special Reference To The Barth-Brunner Debate, Bruce D. Baker
SPU Works
This dissertation investigates the evangelical ethics of Prof. Oliver O’Donovan in order to explore the implications of his “evangelical realism” for theological anthropology, moral knowledge and the concept of moral order. The Barth-Brunner debate regarding natural theology provides a lens onto these issues. Theological case studies are used to test our findings.
Chapter 1 provides an overture to these issues, paying attention to current ideas about human nature and morality, and the growing influence of neuroscience and evolutionary psychology.
Chapter 2 focuses on Resurrection and Moral Order, and elucidates the salient factors in its outline for evangelical ethics.
Chapter …

America’S First Interstate—The National Road And Its Reach Toward St. Clair County, Illinois, Andrew Theising
The Confluence (2009-2020)
The National Road was to span from Maryland to the Mississippi River, but never made it—in part due to a political battle over the location of the new Illinois state capital in the 1830s.

How Natural Is Nature? The Effect Of Burning On Presettlement Vegetation In West-Central Illinois, Paul Kilburn, Richard C. Brugam
The Confluence (2009-2020)
When the first Euroamericans arrived in North America, they thought they were seeing a “wilderness,” unaltered by human hands. However, they were actually seeing highly managed environments. Kilburn and Brugam examine the impact of the burning of forests and prairies by Native Americans on the plant species in west-central Illinois.

Foliar Epidermal Morphology And Anti-Diabetic Property Of Andrographis Paniculata (Burm. F.) Wall Ex. Nees, T. R. Fasola, A. E. Ayodele, A. A. Odetola, N. E. Umotok
Ethnobotanical Leaflets
The leaf epidermal features and anti diabetic property of Androgragphis paniculata were investigated. The epidermal cells are polygonal to irregular with curved to undulate anticlinal walls on both surfaces of the leaf. The leaf is hypostomatic with stomata restricted to the abaxial surface. Stomata type is axillocytic. The epidermal cells contain deposits of crystal oxalates while cystoliths are found in a few cells. The leaf extract was evaluated for hypoglycemic effects. There was significant hypoglycemic effect in alloxan induced diabetic rats following administration of the leaf aqueous extract. The result shows that the level of fasting blood sugar was dependent …

Organophosphorus Pesticides Decrease M2 Muscarinic Receptor Function In Guinea Pig Airway Nerves Via Indirect Mechanisms, Becky J. Proskocil, Donald A. Bruun, Charles M. Thompson, Allison D. Fryer, Pamela J. Lein
Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences Faculty Publications
Background: Epidemiological studies link organophosphorus pesticide (OP) exposures to asthma, and we have shown that the OPs chlorpyrifos, diazinon and parathion cause airway hyperreactivity in guinea pigs 24 hr after a single subcutaneous injection. OP-induced airway hyperreactivity involves M2 muscarinic receptor dysfunction on airway nerves independent of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibition, but how OPs inhibit neuronal M2 receptors in airways is not known. In the central nervous system, OPs interact directly with neurons to alter muscarinic receptor function or expression; therefore, in this study we tested whether the OP parathion or its oxon metabolite, paraoxon, might decrease M2 receptor function on …

An Equivalence Test Based On N And P, Markus Neuhäeuser
An Equivalence Test Based On N And P, Markus Neuhäeuser
Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods
An equivalence test is proposed which is based on the P-value of a test for a difference and the sample size. This test may be especially appropriate for an exploratory re-analysis if only a non-significant test for a difference was reported. Thus, neither a confidence interval is available, nor is there access to the raw data. The test is illustrated using two examples; for both applications the smallest equivalence range for which equivalence could be demonstrated is calculated.
Avatime Noun Classes, Ronny C. Watkins
Avatime Noun Classes, Ronny C. Watkins
Linguistics Honors Projects
Like many African languages, particularly Bantu languages, the Ghanaian language of Avatime organizes its nouns into a class system. Noun classes use affixes to indicate semantic category. For example, many languages with noun classes have a class for ‘people’ nouns, such as ‘child’ and ‘stranger.’ Previous research on Avatime has postulated between seven and nine classes. The current study is based on original field work done in the village of Vane in Ghana. The new data show that Avatime has seven noun classes, distinguished by singular and plural prefixes, definite article suffixes, and semantic similarities.
