The Five Books Of Moses: A Translation With Commentary, Roger G. Baker, Robert Alter Jan 2010

The Five Books Of Moses: A Translation With Commentary, Roger G. Baker, Robert Alter

BYU Studies

There are Bibles aplenty in our world, hundreds if Amazon.com is any guide. In late 2009, Amazon listed over one thousand books on its Bible hit list that have not even been released yet. Over one thousand new books of the roughly 450,000 listed Bible hits portend heavy reading this year for those who try to keep up with things biblical. A beneficial search in this swim through the Amazon of books is for new Bible translations, which now seem plentiful, although there were very few in the years after King James. An almost three-century gap separates the King James …

Hypertension In Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease: A Clinical And Basic Science Perspective, Shobha Ratnam, Surya M. Nauli

Pharmacy Faculty Articles and Research

Cardiovascular complications are major causes of morbidity and mortality in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). In particular, hypertension is insidious and remains a continuous problem that evolves during the course of the disease. Hypertension in ADPKD has been associated with abnormality in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS). Early vascular changes have also been reported in young ADPKD patients. In addition, the cellular functions of mechanosensory cilia within vascular system have emerged recently. The basic and clinical perspectives of RAAS, vascular remodeling and sensory cilia are reviewed with regard to hypertension in ADPKD

A General Approach For Receptor And Antibody-Targeted Detection Of Native Proteins Utilizing Split-Luciferase Reassembly, Cliff I. Stains, Jennifer L. Furman, Jason R. Porter, Srivats Rajagopal, Richard T. Wyatt, Indraneel Ghosh Jan 2010

A General Approach For Receptor And Antibody-Targeted Detection Of Native Proteins Utilizing Split-Luciferase Reassembly, Cliff I. Stains, Jennifer L. Furman, Jason R. Porter, Srivats Rajagopal, Richard T. Wyatt, Indraneel Ghosh

Cliff Stains Publications

The direct detection of native proteins in heterogeneous solutions remains a challenging problem. Standard methodologies rely on a separation step to circumvent nonspecific signal generation. We hypothesized that a simple and general method for the detection of native proteins in solution could be achieved through ternary complexation, where the conditional signal generation afforded by split-protein reporters could be married to the specificity afforded by either native receptors or specific antibodies. Toward this goal, we describe a solution phase split-luciferase assay for native protein detection, where we fused fragmented halves of firefly luciferase to separate receptor fragments or single-chain antibodies, allowing …

The Next Generation Of Online Dispute Resolution: The Significance Of Holography To Enhance And Transform Dispute Resolution, Susan Nauss Exon

Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution

Many scholars have written about the use of various technologies used to enhance or transform face-to-face alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes. Whether termed online dispute resolution (ODR), cybermediation, also known as online mediation, cybercourt, electronic courthouse, virtual courtroom, virtual ADR, video conferencing, or telepresence, each of these technological advances revolves around the use of the Internet or some form of technology to facilitate long-distance, virtual communication without the necessity of physical travel or face-to-face contact. Most scholars have ignored holography, which is the next generation of technology, or perhaps we can more aptly refer to it as a current, unsung …

Assessing The Value Of Dna Barcodes And Other Priority Gene Regions For Molecular Phylogenetics Of Lepidoptera, J.J. Wilson

Research Publications (2006 to 2010)

Background: Despite apparently abundant amounts of observable variation and species diversity, the order Lepidoptera exhibits a morphological homogeneity that has provided only a limited number of taxonomic characters and led to widespread use of nucleotides for inferring relationships. This study aims to characterize and develop methods to quantify the value of priority gene regions designated for Lepidoptera molecular systematics. In particular, I assess how the DNA barcode segment of the mitochondrial COI gene performs across a broad temporal range given its number one position of priority, most sequenced status, and the conflicting opinions on its phylogenetic performance. Methodology/Principal Findings: Gene …

Research Publications (2006 to 2010)

To enhance the stability of the anticancer drug gemcitabine (2′-deoxy-2′,2′-difluorocytidine), it was conjugated to poly-l-glutamic acid (PG-H) via a carbodiimide reaction. The synthesised poly-l-glutamic acid-gemcitabine (PG-G) was purified and characterised by using SDS-PAGE to estimate its molecular weight, HPLC to determine its purity and degree of drug loading, and NMR to elucidate the structure. In vitro aqueous hydrolytic studies showed that the gemcitabine release from the polymeric drug conjugate was pH dependent, and that the conjugation to PG-H improved its stability in human plasma. The release of the bound gemcitabine from PG-G in plasma was mediated by a hydrolytic process. …
