The Program Evaluation Standards Applied For Metaevaluation Purposes: Investigating Interrater Reliabiity And Implications For Use, Lori A. Wingate
Dissertations
Metaevaluation is the evaluation of evaluation. Metaevaluation may focus particular evaluation cases, evaluation systems, or the discipline overall. Leading scholars within the discipline consider metaevaluation to be a professional imperative, demonstrating that evaluation is a reflexive enterprise. Various criteria have been set forth for what constitutes excellence in evaluation. In the context of educational program evaluation, the dominant criteria are the Program Evaluation Standards, developed by the developed by the Joint Committee on Standards for Educational Evaluation.
There has been widespread acceptance and application of the Program Evaluation Standards, and their use is advocated by major organizations and several of …

Probiotic supplementation is now being focused as an alternative method to control fish diseases worldwide. This study investigates the in vitro efficacy of a human-derived probiotic, Lactobacillus rhamnosus. The first results of the screening for antimicrobial activity using agar spot test and disc diffusion showed that L. rhamnosus has a broad range against twelve isolates (n=12) of Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogenic bacteria in fish and frogs : Streptococcus iniae (n=4), Streptococcus agalactiae (n=3), Aeromonas hydrophila (n=3), Chryseobacterium indologenes (n=1) and Edwardsiella tarda (n=1). Agar spot test on killed probiotic bacteria indicated that only the metabolic product of probiotic is involved …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
The efficacy of an Escherichia coli (E. coli) aroA-live vaccine in the prevention of colibacillosis in chickens following intratracheal challenge with a virulent strain of E. coli O78 was investigated. Thirty-six, one day old broiler chickens were divided into 3 groups of 12 each. Chickens in each group were randomly divided into 2 replicates. The chickens in group 1 that were not vaccinated and challenged served as a negative control. The chickens in group 2 that were not vaccinated but received E. coli serotype O78 served as a positive control. The chickens in group 3 were vaccinated by the oral …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Effects of permethrin at a prophylactic dose for ectoparasite infection on cholinesterase (ChE) activity was evaluated. Eight healthy dogs were exposed to a spot-on formulation of permethrin on day 0. The results of serum ChE activity in all of the dogs which was measured at 24 h after exposure to permethrin significantly decreased when compared to those before exposure. However, the serum ChE activity in all the dogs which was measured at 36 and 96 h after exposure to permethrin showed no significant difference as compared to those before exposure. There were no clinical signs in all dogs throughout the …

Acute And Subacute Pulmonary Effects Of Diesel Exhaust Particles In Mice: Pathological Changes And Translocation Pathways To The Circulation, Theerayuth Kaewamatawong, Akinori Shimada, Takehito Morita, Wijit Banlunara, Anong Bintvihok
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
To study the acute and subacute pulmonary effects of diesel exhaust particles (DEPs), mice were intratracheally instilled with 25, 50 or 100 μg of DEPs for dose response experiments. Histological alterations were determined at 3 days post-exposure. 50 or 100 μg of DEPs produced mild to moderate pulmonary inflammation and tissue injury characterized by infiltration of neutrophils and active alveolar macrophages (AMs), focal alveolitis and particle-laden AMs accumulation. Ultrastructural studies of treated animals showed the dissociation of basement membranes and erosion of type I alveolar epithelial cells. To investigate the time response, mice were instilled with 50 μg of DEPs …

The Prevalence Of Osteoarthritis In Wild Vs Captive Great Ape Skeletons, Demelza J. Poe
The Prevalence Of Osteoarthritis In Wild Vs Captive Great Ape Skeletons, Demelza J. Poe
Anthropology ETDs
This research examined whether the prevalence and skeletal distribution of osteoarthritis (OA) differed between wild and captive great ape skeletons. A secondary, but important, aspect of this research focused on the development of improved aging techniques based on methods commonly used on human osteological samples. Tests were conducted pertaining to the effect that wild versus captive status, sex, and species has on vertebral body lipping, marginal lipping, and eburnation. Age was considered a co-factor. Of the aging methods examined, use of the basilar suture to distinguish between adult and old adult specimens proved to be very imprecise. The ribs and …

User Study Of Information Extracted From Engineering Representations, Rachel Hannah
User Study Of Information Extracted From Engineering Representations, Rachel Hannah
All Theses
It is important for designers to understand the usefulness of different engineering representations in order to save time and money throughout a project. Designers often rely on past experience to decide which model to construct; yet students without this experience have no help. Interestingly there are noticeable gaps in the research literature with respect to how and when to select representations and modeling approaches for engineering designs. This thesis examines the differences between three types of engineering representations, specifically sketches, drawing packages, and physical prototypes. The amount of information designers can extract from these representations and also the correctness and …
Biological Sciences Collection Development Policy, Jacquelyn Petzold
Biological Sciences Collection Development Policy, Jacquelyn Petzold
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries: Collection Development Policies
The biological sciences collection exists to support the teaching, research, and service functions of the School of Biological Sciences and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln community. The public may benefit from the biological sciences collection, although specific materials are not collected to meet their needs. Biology-related materials not available in the library’s collection are generally readily available through Interlibrary Loan. The collection is focused on the biologically-based subsections of the Q Library of Congress call number range, although the heavily interdisciplinary nature of scientific study necessitates some overlap with R, S, T, and other areas.

Coping Methods And Meaning Making Of Liberian Refugees In The Buduburam Refugee Camp Of Ghana, Abena Gyamfuah Sarfo-Mensah
Coping Methods And Meaning Making Of Liberian Refugees In The Buduburam Refugee Camp Of Ghana, Abena Gyamfuah Sarfo-Mensah
Honors Scholar Theses
The mental health of war-impacted individuals has been an issue of growing concern to many researchers and practitioners internationally (Miller, Kulkarni, & Kushner, 2006). According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (2006a), Africans are disproportionately impacted by conflict-related displacement. To date, however, much of the research on the mental health of refugees has been based mostly on Western views of health and trauma. The current study is a mixed-methods investigation of stressors, coping strategies, and meaning making of Liberian refugees in the Buduburam Refugee Camp of Ghana. Results from the Brief COPE, focus groups, and semi-structured ethnographic interviews …
Working Memory, Cues, And Wayfinding In Older Women, Rebecca L. Davis, Barbara A. Therrien, Brady T. West
Working Memory, Cues, And Wayfinding In Older Women, Rebecca L. Davis, Barbara A. Therrien, Brady T. West
Peer Reviewed Articles
Individuals create cognitive maps based on relationships between cues in the environment. Older individuals are often impaired in wayfinding, especially in environments that lack distinctive features. This study examines how working memory ability in older women is related to wayfinding performance in the presence of salient (distinctive, prominent) or nonsalient cues. The degree of salient cue complexity is also examined, thus leading to the hypothesis that salient, complex cues are important in wayfinding and that working memory capacity is related to wayfinding performance. The virtual computer-generated arena is used to test this hypothesis in 20 healthy older women in three …
