Sentience Collection

Cerebral lateralization refers to the division of information processing in either hemisphere of the brain and is a ubiquitous trait among vertebrates and invertebrates. Given its widespread occurrence, it is likely that cerebral lateralization confers a fitness advantage. It has been hypothesized that this advantage takes the form of enhanced cognitive function, potentially via a dual processing mechanism whereby each hemisphere can be used to process specific types of information without contralateral interference. Here, we examined the influence of lateralization on problem solving by Australian parrots. The first task, a pebble-seed discrimination test, was designed for small parrot species that …

Remote sensing provides critical information for broad scale assessments of wildlife habitat distribution and conservation. However, such efforts have been typically unable to incorporate information about vegetation structure, a variable important for explaining the distribution of many wildlife species. We evaluated the consequences of incorporating remotely sensed information about horizontal vegetation structure into current assessments of wildlife habitat distribution and conservation. For this, we integrated the new NLCD tree canopy cover product into the US GAP Analysis database, using avian species and the finished Idaho GAP Analysis as a case study. Changes voter approval requirement to 55% from two-thirds for local infrastructure bonds, property taxes to repay bonds where taxes exceed 1% of the property's assessed value, and certain local taxes where taxes are to be used only as voters specify. Allows 55% vote only when certain "accountability requirements" are satisfied. Prohibits state from taking local tax revenues and requires public hearings on fund use, independent audits, and citizens' oversight committees. The general purpose of this meeting was to continue the dialog we started on 11/18. A second major purpose is to explore the possibility of holding an Equity Council Student Leadership Conference at URI's W. Alton Jones Campus in early February.

The focus of the retreat was to gather data in order to have a sense of the current climate/culture present at URI. To conduct focus groups at Alton Jones. The forums/ focus groups addressed issues revolving around the following areas: Academics/Curricular issues/concerns, Housing and Residential Life, Student Leaders and Student Groups, Faculty Diversity Training/Interventions, and Campus Climate.
