Behavioral Application In Wildlife Photography: Developing A Foundation In Ecological And Behavioral Characteristics Of The Zanzibar Red Colobus Monkey (Procolobus Kirkii) As It Applies To The Development Exhibition Photography, Matthew Jorgensen
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
A fundamental understanding of Zanzibar red colobus monkey (Piliocolobus kirkii) behavior can be used to increase the efficiency of a photographic expedition and to increase the impact and value of a subsequent exhibition of the photographs taken. Preliminary research on cercopithecine monkeys, as well as the individual species, was paired with animal behavior experience in the development and execution of a photographic expedition to Jozani Forest. Collected photographs were compiled, organized, analyzed and edited before final selection of twenty five pieces meant for exhibition. These shots were assessed for their aesthetic, documentary and educational quality both individually and collectively as …

Wilde Emerald, Holland Wilde
Wilde Emerald, Holland Wilde
Reconstruction: Studies in Contemporary Culture
From the Editor's Introduction
Holland Wilde performs a similar intervention in his multi-media work “Wilde Emerald," which simulates the relationship between academic outsiders (graduate students, those who do scholarship in the form of media and anthropology in the form of pranks) and insiders. Wilde’s e-mail based “essay," which inevitably yet surprisingly leads to the introduction of a mash-up film on Nanook of the North featuring Frank Zappa as “Zapook," is more of an assay of what traditional and even “progressive" academic circles will tolerate or recognize as knowledge. Wilde’s amalgamation of modes questions a discourse that separates subject …

A Visual Rhetorical Analysis Of Selected Nexium Prescription Drug Advertisements According To The Methodology Of Sonja Foss, Jonathan Henry Ryan Law
A Visual Rhetorical Analysis Of Selected Nexium Prescription Drug Advertisements According To The Methodology Of Sonja Foss, Jonathan Henry Ryan Law
Masters Theses
Direct‐to‐consumer advertising has gathered much negative attention. It’s purpose is filled with questions of ethics and legitimacy. This analytical study takes a deeper look into the advertisements that promote prescription drugs. The advertisements can be seen at the flip of a magazine, click of a button, or a walk down the road. The methodology for analyzing visual images according to Sonja Foss provided a framework to provide results. This preliminary study found evident problems in the drug advertising industry. Further research was beckoned due to the findings of this exploratory project.
Poetic To Platonic AlēTheia Orality, Literacy, And The Development Of Truth In Greek Poetry And Philosophy, Justin B. Cecil
Poetic To Platonic AlēTheia Orality, Literacy, And The Development Of Truth In Greek Poetry And Philosophy, Justin B. Cecil
Institute for the Humanities Theses
In recent years many scholars have dedicated much research to the development of the Orality Problem. In its most general form, the Orality Problem is grounded in the following two questions: 1) is there a difference between spoken and written language and 2) if there is a difference between these two forms of communication what exactly is this difference and how does it operate. Research into these questions has two major sources to draw upon: cross-cultural research between literate and non-literate cultures and textual analysis of written oral records from ancient Greece. According to the mounting research, many scholars now …

Mitigating Escalation Of Commitment: An Investigation Of The Effects Of Priming And Decision-Making Setting In Capital Project Continuation Decisions, Ann C. Dzuranin
Mitigating Escalation Of Commitment: An Investigation Of The Effects Of Priming And Decision-Making Setting In Capital Project Continuation Decisions, Ann C. Dzuranin
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This research examines escalation of commitment in capital investment decisions and the extent to which it can be mitigated using a cognitive prime. Specifically, I examine the use of a cognitive prime as a way to mitigate escalation in three decision-making settings: (1) individual, (2) face-to-face team, and (3) computer-mediated team. Continued investment in failing projects is costly for firms. The use of a cognitive prime to reduce escalation would provide a low cost way to mitigate escalation. In this study, participants are primed to think about sunk costs. The expectation is that priming individuals to think about sunk costs …

Royal Images And Rebel Ideals: Contradictory Symbols In American Revolutionary Newspaper Nameplates, Autumn Lorimer Linford
Royal Images And Rebel Ideals: Contradictory Symbols In American Revolutionary Newspaper Nameplates, Autumn Lorimer Linford
Theses and Dissertations
Historians have long claimed that the newspaper printers of the American Revolution were instrumental in bringing about Independence. By focusing solely on the written words left behind by these men, however, researchers have erroneously believed the printers belonged exclusively to either the patriot or Tory camps. The masthead symbols chosen by the printers to represent their newspapers offer a more objective measure of their partisan affiliations than a textual analysis of the content. The printers marked major changes in their political ideologies by inserting and deleting political symbols in their newspaper mastheads. This study examines the use and meanings of …

"Island Rhythm And Blues" Guitar Workbook, Amber Rose Francis
"Island Rhythm And Blues" Guitar Workbook, Amber Rose Francis
Art and Design
For my senior project I created a lesson plan workbook for The Guitar Gym to use with their 6-10 year old students. The workbook consists of 5 lessons that teach children musical concepts, and how to play a song called Island Rhythm and Blues on the guitar. Each lesson introduces new material, a variation of The Guitar Gym’s innovative teaching tool called The Spinner, assignments, and illustrations related to the established island adventure theme.
This paper explains the process I used to complete the workbook, and also includes research, influences, ideation, sketches, and imagery of the final project.
