Durkheim's Refutation Of Spencerian Methodological Individualism: A Critical Evaluation., Matthew Bryan Smith
Durkheim's Refutation Of Spencerian Methodological Individualism: A Critical Evaluation., Matthew Bryan Smith
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The famed French classical social theorist Emile Durkheim's academic reputation is based largely on his critical rejection of the British utilitarian tradition and specifically the writings of the classical British sociologist Herbert Spencer. In this thesis I critically evaluate Durkheim's critique of Herbert Spencer's methodological individualism. It is found that while select Durkheimian claims merit continued allegiance, his broader critique of Spencer's methodological individualism must be viewed as logically and empirically deficient. In conclusion I examine the implications for Durkheimian sociology and the broader social theoretical enterprise directed at analyzing and conceptualizing the nature of sociality and the social bond.

The Khazars And The Jews, Thomas D. Ice

One of the tactics used by some anti-Christian Zionists is to say that most modern Jews are not true descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. This errant theory is based upon wrong conclusions that they have drawn from the history of a medieval nation in which some converted to Judaism. Khazaria was a nation composed largely of Turkish stock that lived between the Black and Caspian Seas during the seventh to tenth centuries.1 Some holding to replacement theology and many neo-Nazis are attracted to this theory in which they conclude that the Jews are not really Jews.
The Literal Interpretation Of Prophecy, Thomas D. Ice
The Literal Interpretation Of Prophecy, Thomas D. Ice

Our whole nation and the world are focused upon the saga of our 2000 election for President. At the time in which I am writing, the matter has not yet been resolved. Currently the two campaigns are in the midst of legal battles that have engaged the Florida and United States Supreme Courts. A ruling by the liberal Florida Supreme Court has many representatives of Bush and Gore talking about how our Federal and State Constitutions should be interpreted. As I observe their discussion, I see many parallels between interpretive philosophies of these legal documents and the hermeneutical approaches to …

Hal Lindsey, Dominion Theology, And Anti-Semitism, Thomas D. Ice

Long before Hal Lindsey wrote The Road To Holocaust2, he was the favorite whipping boy of Dominionist/Reconstructionists in their never ending attacks on the system of theology they most love to hate—Dispensationalism. When Lindsey answered back in The Road To Holocaust, the temperature of the debate boiled over into heated response. In spite of all of the huffing and puffing and cry that Lindsey struck a low blow in his characterization of Dominion/Reconstruction theology, I want to state why I believe that Hal is correct.

University Of Kentucky Adult Learning Focused Institution (Alfi) Task Force: Findings And Recommendations, Randolph Hollingsworth
Undergraduate Education White Papers
This report to Provost Kumble Subbaswamy details the wide-ranging work over two years of the UK Adult Learning Focused Institution (ALFI) Task Force. The findings in sum assert that the undergraduate population at the University is primarily of a traditional age and that little explicit attention is given to adult learners in UK's stated policies or procedures. The recommendations are that by becoming more "adult friendly" the University could also provide more flexibility and promise for success to all its students.

Primary Care, Males, Masculinity, And Suicide : A Grounded Theory Study, John Thomas Casey
Primary Care, Males, Masculinity, And Suicide : A Grounded Theory Study, John Thomas Casey
Dissertations and Theses
Suicide completion in the United States is a public health problem that claims over 30,000 lives annually. Most of these suicide victims are white males who die by firearm, and who typically are not taking antidepressant medication and are not involved in mental health treatment at the time of death. Depression is closely linked to suicide death, and treatment for depression is provided mainly within primary health care settings where most suicide decedents have been seen at some point in the year prior to their death. The rate of male depression is likely under-reported, partly due to gender-bias within primary …

Feminism, Globalism, And Leadership: How Women Make A "Worldly" World, Scott C. Hammond, Susan R. Madsen, Jory Jensen
Marketing and Strategy Faculty Publications
The influx of women into leadership, management, and idea leader roles is clearly one of the significant aspects of globalization over the last 50 years. While women are still underrepresented in global business and politics, their influence on reconceptualizing leadership models is undeniable. While it would be difficult to precisely determine a “feminist” perspective on leadership, idea leaders such as Follett, Kanter, and Wheatley have influenced the concept and practice of leadership beyond any gender construct. The unique themes within their work are present in the global dialogue that is reframing how we think about leadership. This paper will discuss …

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries: Collection Development Policies
The Love Library print reference collection provides access to information essential to the instructional, research, and service programs of the University community. It integrates with the library electronic reference collection and operates according to principles stated in the University Libraries Reference Collection Development Policy. As a result it primarily contains items preferred in print because of cost, availability, use patterns, ease of use, archival needs, completeness, need for official text, need for cumulative data, delays in the publication of electronic versions, or instability of online sources. The Love Library print reference collection offers general reference materials and supports the curricula …

Correlations Of Preschool Attendance And Child Study Team Classifications, Joanellen P. Fenimore
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of the study was to explore possible relationships between children attending preschool and the Child Study Team classifications. Specifically, this researcher hypothesized that children who did not attend any form of preschool before entering Kindergarten were classified at a higher rate than those children who did receive a preschool education. There were a total of 55 participants; there were 28 male and 27 female participants. Students from the psychology pool and at the Academic Success Center at Rowan University were given questionnaires about their preschool attendance, child study team involvement, and their background. Students at the Academic Success …
