With increasing numbers of cores, future CMPs (Chip Multi-Processors) are likely to have a tiled architecture with a portion of shared L2 cache on each tile and a bankinterleaved distribution of the address space. Although such an organization is effective for avoiding access hot-spots, it can cause a significant number of non-local L2 accesses for many commonly occurring regular data access patterns. In this paper we develop a compile-time framework for data locality optimization via data layout transformation. Using a polyhedral model, the program's localizability is determined by analysis of its index set and array reference functions, followed by non-canonical …

Assessment Of Perceived Positive And Negative Outcomes In Risky Adolescent Dating And Peer Situations: A Descriptive Analysis Of Risk And Benefit Perception, Sarah Helms
Theses and Dissertations
Peer and dating violence perpetration and victimization are common experiences placing adolescents at-risk for maladaptive outcomes, yet little research has focused on specific problematic situations associated with these types of violence and other related risk-taking behaviors. Further, prevention programs have typically focused on changing beliefs, attitudes, and skill-deficits, with little attention to adolescents’ motivations or perceptions of costs and benefits associated with risky situations, despite support for this type of research in other health-related fields (e.g., substance abuse, behavioral medicine). The current study assessed adolescents’ perceptions of potential positive and negative outcomes associated with risky dating and peer situations, many …

A Descriptive Study Of Teachers' Instructional Use Of Student Assessmetn Data, Nancy Hoover
A Descriptive Study Of Teachers' Instructional Use Of Student Assessmetn Data, Nancy Hoover
Theses and Dissertations
The overarching question for this study is: to what extent are teachers using summative assessment data in a formative way? A survey research design study was implemented to address this question. A web-based survey was administered to elementary, middle, and high school teachers in a large, suburban school division in central Virginia. The survey data were used to determine the frequency with which teachers administered specific types of summative assessments, analyzed student summative assessment data, made changes in their instructional practice as a result of their analysis, and the level of teachers’ assessment literacy. The results of this study suggest …
An Analysis Of Reading Instruction For Fifth Grade Students With Disabilities Served In Inclusive Elementary Classrooms, Elizabeth Dragone
An Analysis Of Reading Instruction For Fifth Grade Students With Disabilities Served In Inclusive Elementary Classrooms, Elizabeth Dragone
Theses and Dissertations
This qualitative case study was designed to identify and analyze instructional strategies used by fifth grade teachers to meet the needs of students with disabilities receiving reading instruction in inclusive settings. Seven participants in a large suburban school system were chosen through purposeful, criterion-based sampling. Semi-structured interviews were used to gain information about how teachers use data related to student readiness, interests, and learning profiles to design differentiated instruction. Observations were used to gain information about how the teachers implemented differentiated content, process, and products in the classroom. As more students with disabilities are served in inclusive settings, teachers are …

Variability In Construction Of Cement-Treated Base Layers: Probabilistic Analysis Of Pavement Life Using Mechanistic-Empirical Approach, Tyler J. Rogers
Theses and Dissertations
The primary objective of this research was to quantify the improvement in service life of a flexible pavement constructed using full-depth reclamation (FDR) in conjunction with cement stabilization when specified reductions in the spatial variability of specific construction-related parameters are achieved. This study analyzed pavement data obtained through field and laboratory testing of a reconstruction project in northern Utah. Data analyses included multivariate regression, Monte Carlo simulation, and mechanistic-empirical analyses of a model pavement structure. The results of the research show a steadily increasing trend in 28-day unconfined compressive strength of the cement-treated base (CTB) layer with increasing reductions in …

A Systematic Examination Of Data-Driven Decision-Making Within A School Division: The Relationships Among Principal Beliefs, School Characteristics, And Accreditation Status, Beth Teigen
Theses and Dissertations
This non-experimental, census survey included the elementary, middle, and high school principals at the comprehensive schools within a large, suburban school division in Virginia. The focus of this study was the factors that influence building administrators in using data to make instructional decisions. The purpose was to discover if there is a difference in the perceptions of elementary, middle, and high school principals of data use to make instructional decisions within their buildings. McLeod’s (2006) Statewide Data-Driven Readiness Study: Principal Survey was used to assess the principals’ beliefs about the data-driven readiness of their individual schools. Each principal indicated the …

The question in this case is whether the individual right to keep and bear arms recently recognized in District of Columbia v. Heller, and held applicable to the federal government, must also be protected against state infringement. The textually and historically accurate way to determine if the states must respect an individual right to keep and bear arms is to examine the meaning of the Privileges or Immunities Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. Amici submit to the Court that the original meaning of the Privileges or Immunities Clause protected substantive, fundamental rights against state infringement, including the constitutional right of …

Nurturing America's Growth In The Global Marketplace Through Talent Development: An Interim Report On The Evaluation Of Generations Ii And Iii Of Wired, Nancy Hewat, Kevin Hollenbeck
Reports
This is the first report from the evaluation of Generations II and III of the Workforce Innovations in Regional Economic Development Initiative. This interim report presents baseline information from all 26 regions. It reflects the status of regional activities as of the summer of 2008, when many regions were in the initial stage of implementation. Thus, the report focuses on the development of partnerships, governance arrangements, and the design of decision-making processes. In early 2006, ETA announced the initial recipients of grants to promote regional collaboration of a wide range of public and private organizations with the goal of transforming …

A Model Based Fault Detection And Accommodation Scheme For Nonlinear Discrete-Time Systems With Asymptotic Stability Guarantee, Balaje T. Thumati, Sarangapani Jagannathan
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
In this paper, a fault detection and accommodation (FDA) framework is developed for unknown nonlinear discrete-time systems. the changes in the system dynamics due to the faults are modeled as a nonlinear function of state and input variables while the time profile of the fault is assumed to be exponentially developing. a fault is detected by monitoring the system states and reconstructing the fault dynamics using online approximators. the online approximator output is used first for fault detection and later reconfigured for accommodation. a stable adaptation law in discrete time is developed not only to characterize the faults but also …

R-Factor: A New Parameter To Enhance Location Accuracy In Rssi Based Real-Time Location Systems, Mohammed Rana Basheer, Sarangapani Jagannathan
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
The fundamental cause of localization error in an indoor environment is fading and spreading of the radio signals due to scattering, diffraction, and reflection. These effects are predominant in regions where there is no-line-of-sight (NLoS) between the transmitter and the receiver. Efficient algorithms are needed to identify the subset of receivers that provide better localization accuracy. © 2009 IEEE.

Analysis Of State Medicaid Agency Performance In Relation To Incentivizing The Provision Of H1n1 Immunizations To Eligible Populations, Nancy Lopez, Ross Margulies, Sara J. Rosenbaum
Health Policy and Management Faculty Publications
This analysis examines the extent to which state Medicaid agencies have translated a recent CMS guidance on vaccine coverage into clear information for participating providers clarifying payment for costs associated with the administration of H1N1 vaccines. This clarification may be particularly important in states that do not otherwise cover and pay for recommended immunizations as part of treating adult patients.
