Gender Dimorphic Acl Strain In Response To Combined Dynamic 3d Knee Joint Loading: Implications For Acl Injury Risk, Kiyonori Mizuno, Jack T. Andrish, Antonie J. Van Den Bogert, Scott G. Mclean Dec 2009

Gender Dimorphic Acl Strain In Response To Combined Dynamic 3d Knee Joint Loading: Implications For Acl Injury Risk, Kiyonori Mizuno, Jack T. Andrish, Antonie J. Van Den Bogert, Scott G. Mclean

Mechanical Engineering Faculty Publications

While gender-based differences in knee joint anatomies/laxities are well documented, the potential for them to precipitate gender-dimorphic ACL loading and resultant injury risk has not been considered. To this end, we generated gender-specific models of ACL strain as a function of any six degrees of freedom (6DOF) knee joint load state via a combined cadaveric and analytical approach. Continuously varying joint forces and torques were applied to five male and five female cadaveric specimens and recorded along with synchronous knee flexion and ACL strain data. All data (~10,000 samples) were submitted to specimen-specific regression analyses, affording ACL strain predictions as …

Fiscal Year 2009 Fhwa-536 Report For The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Steven Douglas Kreis, Candice Y. Wallace

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) requires state transportation agencies to submit a biennial report on local highway finances. The purpose of these reports is to provide FHWA with the data it needs to capture the financing of highway activities at the local level. Based on this information, it can identify trends in revenue, expenditures, investments, and program development, and in turn make decisions about future investments. The report, FHWA-536, asks agencies to report on four areas of local highway finance: 1) disposition of highway-user revenues; 2) revenues used for roads and streets identified by source and funding type; 3) road …

Education In Plant Pathology Present Status And Future Challenges, James Macdonald, Caitilyn Allen, David Gadoury, William Jacobi, Segenet Kelemu, James Moyer, Tim Murray, Kevin Ong, Charles Pearson, John Sherwood, Ann Vidaver

Department of Plant Pathology: Faculty Publications

Plant pathology is largely a mission driven discipline that seeks to increase the fundamental understanding of host–pathogen interactions and the etiology of plant diseases for the purpose of preventing or mitigating crop loss. This is an important mission because all nations face serious challenges in their efforts to prevent disease on plants cultivated for food, fiber, ornamental use, timber, and fuel, as well as those growing in native ecosystems. In 1994, it was estimated that global losses due to plant diseases ranged from 9.7 to 14.2% of potential yield (12).

The Voices of Slaves Speak on the Civil War

Of late Civil War historians have succeeded in balancing the attention they give to battle front and home front: it has become common fare not only to examine the relationship between civilians at home and the rank and file on the battlefield.....

Sex Ratio Of Bovine Embryos And Calves Originating From The Left And Right Ovaries, Darin Hylan, Angelica M. Giraldo, Joel A. Carter, Glen T. Gentry, Kenneth R. Bondioli, Robert A. Godke

An asymmetric distribution of the sexes within the left and right uterine horns has been described in multiple species. A series of experiments were conducted to evaluate the sex ratio (% male) of calves gestated in the left and right uterine horns, as well as the sex ratio of embryos originating from the left and right ovaries of cattle. The sex ratio of calves gestated in the right uterine horn of naturally mated cows was significantly higher compared with the sex ratio of calves gestated in the left uterine horn. In addition, the sex ratio of the left and right …

The Role Of Spatial And Genetic Modeling To Biogeography, Dolly Lyne Crawford Dec 2009

The Role Of Spatial And Genetic Modeling To Biogeography, Dolly Lyne Crawford

Biology ETDs

One of the most persistent challenges in biology is explaining the distribution of animal taxa. Quantitative explanations for the distribution of organisms are challenged by the complexity of factors that potentially limit a species range, including topography, ecology, climate and biology. Because of limits on data and approaches, early biogeographers were hampered in their ability to explain patterns. Here, I benefit from two primary developments in biogeography. My research draws from the accumulation of data across several scientific disciplines and advances in spatial and statistical approaches to examine the distribution of animal taxa within an integrative biogeography framework. I combine …

Recursive Methods In Discounted Stochastic Games: An Algorithm For Delta Approaching 1 And A Folk Theorem, Johannes Hörner, Takuo Sugaya, Satoru Takahashi, Nicolas Vieille Dec 2009

Recursive Methods In Discounted Stochastic Games: An Algorithm For Delta Approaching 1 And A Folk Theorem, Johannes Hörner, Takuo Sugaya, Satoru Takahashi, Nicolas Vieille

Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers

We present an algorithm to compute the set of perfect public equilibrium payoffs as the discount factor tends to one for stochastic games with observable states and public (but not necessarily perfect) monitoring when the limiting set of (long-run players’) equilibrium payoffs is independent of the state. This is the case, for instance, if the Markov chain induced by any Markov strategy profile is irreducible. We then provide conditions under which a folk theorem obtains: if in each state the joint distribution over the public signal and next period’s state satisfies some rank condition, every feasible payoff vector above the …
