Criminal Justice Collection Development Policy, Suping Lu
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries: Collection Development Policies
The criminal justice collection supports the teaching, learning, research, and other related service activities of the entire university community. Its primary users are faculty, staff, and students of the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice (Lincoln Program) in the College of Public Affairs and Community Service, which is based at University of Nebraska-Omaha. Its essential focus is support for the undergraduate curricula for criminal justice. The collection is supplemented through interlibrary loan services whenever special curriculum and research needs of criminal justice faculty and students arise. Although the collection is not developed for the general public and community users, they …

Community-Based Suicide Prevention Research In Remote On-Reserve First Nations Communities, Corinne A. Isaak, Mike Campeau, Laurence Y. Katz, Murray W. Enns, Brenda Elias, Jitender Sareen
Aboriginal Policy Research Consortium International (APRCi)
Suicide is a complex problem linked to genetic, environmental, psychological and community factors. For the Aboriginal population more specifically, loss of culture, history of traumatic events, individual, family and community factors may also play a role in suicidal behaviour. Of particular concern is the high rate of suicide among Canadian Aboriginal youth. While the need to develop interventions to reduce suicidal behaviour for First Nations on-reserve populations is evident, there may be an element of distrust of researchers by Aboriginal communities. Furthermore, research in mental health and specifically suicide is much more sensitive than studying medical illnesses like diabetes. Clearly, …

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder And Depression In Combat Veterans Within Group Based Exposure Therapy Treatment : A Correlation Between Grief And Guilt? : A Project Based Upon An Investigation At Atlanta Veterans Administration Medical Center, Atlantic, Ga., Erin Hamilton Richter
Theses, Dissertations, and Projects
This study examines the potential multifaceted relationship between Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), grief, guilt and depression. A sample pool of 32 veterans diagnosed with chronic PTSD volunteered as participants for this study by completing the Posttraumatic stress disorder checklist (PCL), the Beck Inventory for Depression (BDI), the Prolonged Grief Diagnostic tool, and the Traumatic Related Guilt Inventory (TRGI), pre- and post- group based exposure therapy treatment (GBET). Participants for this study were all male veterans, who ranged in ages from 47-64 years old. Twenty of the participants were African American/Black; 11 participants were Caucasian/White; and one participant identified as "other." …
The Effects Of Joint Physical Custody On Fathers And The Father/Child Relationship, Evan Shopper
The Effects Of Joint Physical Custody On Fathers And The Father/Child Relationship, Evan Shopper
Theses, Dissertations, and Projects
This study was conducted to better understand how, following divorce, fathers and the father/child relationship are affected by joint physical custody (JPC). Specifically, how does the post-divorce family system, altered and defined by JPC, influence the father's adjustment to the divorce and his subsequent relationship to his children? While there has been considerable research focusing on noncustodial fathers and those with joint legal custody, few studies have qualitatively examined the impact of JPC on men and the father/child relationship. The study used a semi-structured, one-hour interview to capture the subjects' specific language through an interactive method. Eleven men were interviewed …

Intracranial Eeg Reveals A Time- And Frequency-Specific Role For The Right Inferior Frontal Gyrus And Primary Motor Cortex In Stopping Initiated Responses, Nicole Swann, Nitin Tandon, Ryan Canolty, Timothy M Ellmore, Linda K Mcevoy, Stephen Dreyer, Michael Disano, Adam R Aron
Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
Inappropriate response tendencies may be stopped via a specific fronto/basal ganglia/primary motor cortical network. We sought to characterize the functional role of two regions in this putative stopping network, the right inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) and the primary motor cortex (M1), using electocorticography from subdural electrodes in four patients while they performed a stop-signal task. On each trial, a motor response was initiated, and on a minority of trials a stop signal instructed the patient to try to stop the response. For each patient, there was a greater right IFG response in the beta frequency band ( approximately 16 Hz) …

My Experiences With And Thoughts About Distance Learning, Mike O'Lear
My Experiences With And Thoughts About Distance Learning, Mike O'Lear
Colloquia of the Department of Mathematical Sciences
When I was a full time Instructor at Great Falls COT from 2000 to 2005, the COT "pioneered" some online and hybrid courses offered in the curriculum, including "core" courses in mathematics. After a year or so, at least half of my course load was internet driven (including summer offerings), and when I had a pulmonary embolism I taught all Great Falls COT courses (4) from my home in Missoula the following semester. This colloquium is a summary of my experiences, my successes (few), my failures (many), and what I learned from my experiences teaching distance mathematics core courses.
