Nebraska's Corporate-Farming Law And Discriminatory Effects Under The Dormant Commerce Clause, Anthony Schutz Jan 2009

Nebraska's Corporate-Farming Law And Discriminatory Effects Under The Dormant Commerce Clause, Anthony Schutz

Nebraska Law Review

Laws dealing with agriculture have generated a great deal of constitutional law. This Article explores one more recent example. Corporate- farming laws are one hallmark of agricultural law. They regulate the use of limited liability business forms for owning agricultural land, engaging in production agriculture, or both on approximately 312 million acres of farmland in nine states. That is approximately 77% of the land in those states and approximately one-third of all farmland in the United States. These regulations generally take the form of restricting the use of limited liability to those producers that the legislature or electorate have deemed …

· Efforts to provide services for fathers and improve home-based child care were not successful; …

The Blind Men And The Elephant: Learning A Little At A Time About Civic Engagement, Melanie Moore Kubo, Ashley Mckenna Jan 2009

The Blind Men And The Elephant: Learning A Little At A Time About Civic Engagement, Melanie Moore Kubo, Ashley Mckenna

The Foundation Review

· This article, written from the perspective of the evaluator, describes what happened in one community in which four noncollaborating funders were supporting community development programs.

· The Treeline Collaborative evolved from grassroots origins to become a leading organization in the community, serving as a one-stop shop for many programs and providing a structure for civic engagement of residents.

· A collaborative evaluation would have enabled a deeper understanding of the Treeline Collaborative, the outcomes it attained and missed, and the multiple roles it plays in the community, perhaps leading to more effective program and funding decisions.

Blast Disease Influence On Agronomic And Quality Traits Of Rice Varieties Under Mediterranean Conditions, Spyridon D. Koutroubas, Dimitrios Katsantonis, Dimitrios A. Ntanos, Elizabetta Lupotto

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The effects of Pyricularia oryzae, the causal agent of blast disease in rice, on plant growth, grain yield, and grain quality under Mediterranean conditions were studied in 2002 and 2003. Four rice varieties were grown under high and low disease pressure, achieved by early inoculation with the blast fungus and by natural infection, respectively. Results showed that inoculation affected the overall plant growth and yield and resulted in a reduction in plant height, number of productive tillers per plant, grain weight, and grain yield. The magnitude of the reduction was dependent on the varietals' susceptibility to the disease. Both types …
