Voices From The Margins: African Women’S Hermeneutics, James Chukwuma Okoye C.S.Sp.

Journal of the Black Catholic Theological Symposium

In this article delivered during the 2008 Annual Meeting in Chicago, Okoye describes several landmarks in African biblical interpretation from the various lenses of race, class, and gender. From the early days of a culturally-sensitive African hermeneutics in the 1960s, to modern popular readings of the Bible, to women’s unique readings of the shades of meaning therein, Okoye focus on the intersection points of biblical and cultural interpretation and the ways a marginalized people have found meaning in the Bible.

Christian Missions And Colonial Empires Reconsidered: A Black Evangelist In West Africa, 1766-1816, Edward E. Andrews

History & Classics Faculty Publications

The article presents an exploration into the work of the late 18th-century West African Anglican missionary Philip Quaque and the relationship between imperialism and religion during the colonial era. The author points out and criticizes the dominant historiographical trend of over-conflating White imperialism with Christian missions. Quaque's life and writings are examined, highlighting the lack of forced cultural conversion within his missionary activities. Discussion is also given regarding the complex identity dynamics within Quaque as a Christian and as an African.

Study To Show Thyself Approved: The Case For Continuing Clergy Education, Dan R. Jividen Oct 2009

Study To Show Thyself Approved: The Case For Continuing Clergy Education, Dan R. Jividen

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

There has been little study focused upon the role of the pastor's personal growth and how it may relate to growth or the lack thereof in the local church. Although the problem of ministerial competence as a whole can not be fully addressed in the limited scope of this project, it is this writer's contention that much of the plateau in church growth experienced in Southern Baptist Churches today may be predicated by the lack of ministerial training in the churches of the Southern Baptist Convention as a whole. It is the intent of this project to determine if there …

The Adpms Ready For Flight An Advanced Data & Power Management System For Small Satellites & Missions, Koen Puimège, Jo Bermyn Aug 2009

The Adpms Ready For Flight An Advanced Data & Power Management System For Small Satellites & Missions, Koen Puimège, Jo Bermyn

Small Satellite Conference

In a contract for ESA, Verhaert Space developed a state-off-the-art control unit for small satellites. Built on the experience gained with the PROBA-I satellite that has been in daily use since its launch in 2001. This next generation avionics has been developed and will have its first in-orbit demonstration in 2009 as the satellite control unit for PROBA-II. The objective of this paper is to explain the benefit of this avionics and its architecture towards small satellite integrators. The ADPMS presented in this paper is designed for rapid adaptation to a diversity of next generation satellites. It provides the fundamental …

Group Dynamics In Extreme Earth Environments: Analogs For Space Missions (Past And Present Expeditions Analysis), Matthew M. Allner

Theses and Dissertations

Introduction: Crew performance in space has become an increasing focus of many space faring nations due to the recent shift in focus of colonizing the Moon and then preparing to travel to Mars and beyond. This recent shift in focus to more long- duration missions has moved researchers in the direction of analyzing crew performance aspects associated win, crew dynamic development on such long missions. More recently researchers have been analyzing past expeditions carried out on Earth, as these expeditions kept records of crew performance, which have been compared and analyzed to those reported on space missions. Purpose: This study …

Survey Of Concurrent Engineering Environments And The Application Of Best Practices Towards The Development Of A Multiple Industry, Multiple Domain Environment, Jonathan Osborn

All Theses

This thesis investigates the best practices of fifteen existing Concurrent Engineering Environments (CEE). A CEE is defined as any environment, from physical to virtual, designed to facilitate concurrent engineering with multiple domain experts real time. All existing environments surveyed have been focused on the aerospace industry showing significant reductions in design time and cost. I have identified hardware, software, and peopleware as three major classifications as well as sixteen subcategories with which to compare the different CEEs. The success in reducing time and cost of designs seen in the aerospace industry with the introduction of CEEs can and should be …

Global Christian Shifts And Missional Church Movements: Linking The Postcolonial Global South With The Postmodern West, Stephen P. Lewis

Doctor of Ministry

This dissertation engages cunent shifts in global Christianity. The problem we are studying is the movement toward the postmodern emerging church in the West and the postcolonial church emerging in the global South, in order to understand both the past failings in the relationship of the Western and Southern church and their present common context, in order to help postmodern and postcolonial churches repent of previous failures and move forward utilizing a common set of experiences and cultural conditions, so that God's people will love and work with one another as co-heirs, co-equals, and comissionaries of the Kingdom.

In order …

Edinburgh 2010: Mission Then And Now, David A. Kerr, Kenneth R. Ross

Regnum Edinburgh Centenary Series

No one can fully understand the modern Christian missionary movement without engaging substantially with the World Missionary Conference, held at Edinburgh in 1910. As the centenary of the Conference approaches, the time is ripe to examine its meaning in light of the past century and the questions facing Christians today. This book is first to systematically examine the eight Commissions which reported to Edinburgh 1910 and gave the conference much of its substance and enduring value. It will deepen and extend the reflection being stimulated by the upcoming centenary and will kindle the missionary imagination for 2010 and beyond.

The Lockerbie Trial And The Rule Of Law, Hans Koechler Jan 2009

The Lockerbie Trial And The Rule Of Law, Hans Koechler

National Law School of India Review

The Lockerbie trial weaves together some of the most interesting notions in municipal criminal law with public international law concepts of state responsibility and personal criminal liability. Employing it as a case study, Professor Koechler analyses the criminal justice system from the perspective of international politics. He outlines the major problems plaguing such trials by highlighting the encumbrances caused by overarching political concerns. Professor Koechler, thus, provides a compelling analysis of the Lockerbie trial effectively bringing forth the controversial issues, raised thereby, which are going to beset the criminal justice paradigm for a considerable time.
