Simple Ml Detector For Multiple Antennas Communication System, Ahmad Taqwa, Soegijardjo Soegijoko, Sugihartono Sugihartono, Suhartono Tjondronegoro

Makara Journal of Technology

Simple ML Detector for Multiple Antennas Communication System. In order to support providing broadband wireless communication services against limited and expensive frequency bandwidth, we have to develop a bandwidth efficient system. Therefore, in this paper we propose a closed-loop MIMO (Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output) system using ML (Maximum Likelihood) detector to optimize capacity and to increase system performance. What is especially exciting about the benefits offered by MIMO is that a high capacity and performance can be attained without additional frequency-spectral resource. The grand scenario of this concept is the attained advantages of transformation matrices having capability to allocate transmitted signals power suit …

The Privacy Box: A Software Proposal, Woodrow Hartzog Nov 2009

The Privacy Box: A Software Proposal, Woodrow Hartzog

Faculty Scholarship

The contradiction of social networks is that revealing of personal, private information can have harmful consequences, yet users continue to disclose such information at an alarming rate. Ironically, the advent of social network sites opens the possibility of a relatively safe place to disclose private information. This article proposes a “privacy box” application to be used within social network sites that would require users to accept a pre–written promise of confidentiality before gaining access to personal information. Although it would not serve as a universal remedy for privacy harms on social network sites, it could serve to carve out a …

Forty Years In The Making: Harry Wolcott Shares His Expertise In Writing Up Qualitative Research, Gary M. Bowler Jr.

The Qualitative Report

Harry Wolcott’s major focus in the third edition of Writing Up Qualitative Research is on writing what has come to be known as qualitative or descriptive or naturalistic research. To this end Wolcott draws upon the experiences from his life in the field of qualitative inquiry from over the past 40 years to offer suggestions on every aspect of the writing process from the beginning to end of a qualitative research project. Wolcott discusses how to jump start the writing process by providing guidance ranging from when and how to begin, how to keep the writing process going, what to …

Anisotropic Acid Catalyst Displacement In A Chemically Amplified Photoresist Via Application Of An Electric Field, Ward A. Johnson Nov 2009

Anisotropic Acid Catalyst Displacement In A Chemically Amplified Photoresist Via Application Of An Electric Field, Ward A. Johnson

Theses

Electrostatic force theory and Fickean diffusion theory both predict that anisotropic movement can be conveyed to chemically amplified resist (CAR) acid catalysts via an electric field during the post exposure bake (PEB). A demonstration of this effect was attempted through photoresist thickness loss measurements with and without the addition of an electric field. The experimental design underwent multiple evolutionary iterations and measured as much as 86 nm of additional thickness loss with the presence of an electric field compared to a PEB control. Repeatability was inconsistent and several principal assumptions were found to be in violation. From measurements of current …

Increasing Productivity In Irrigated Agriculture: Agronomic Constraints And Hydrological Realities, Chris Perry, Pasquale Steduto, Richard C. Allen, Charles M. Burt Nov 2009

Increasing Productivity In Irrigated Agriculture: Agronomic Constraints And Hydrological Realities, Chris Perry, Pasquale Steduto, Richard C. Allen, Charles M. Burt

BioResource and Agricultural Engineering

Irrigation is widely criticised as a profligate and wasteful user of water, especially in watershort areas. Improvements to irrigation management are proposed as a way of increasing agricultural production and reducing the demand for water. The terminology for this debate is often flawed, failing to clarify the actual disposition of water used in irrigation into evaporation, transpiration, and return flows that may, depending on local conditions, be recoverable. Once the various flows are properly identified, the existing literature suggests that the scope for saving consumptive use of water through advanced irrigation technologies is often limited. Further, the interactions between evaporation …

Tunneling Through Intercorporate Loans: The China Experience, Guohua Jiang, Charles M. C. Lee, Heng Yue Nov 2009

Tunneling Through Intercorporate Loans: The China Experience, Guohua Jiang, Charles M. C. Lee, Heng Yue

Research Collection School of Accountancy

This study investigates a particularly brazen form of corporate abuse, in which controlling shareholders use intercorporate loans to siphon billions of RMB from hundreds of Chinese listed companies during the 1996 to 2006 period. We document the nature and extent of these transactions, evaluate their economic consequences, examine factors that affect their cross-sectional severity, and report on the mitigating roles of auditors, institutional investors, and regulators. Collectively, our findings shed light on the severity of the minority shareholder expropriation problem in China, as well as the relative efficacy of various legal and extra-legal governance mechanisms in that country.

Miniature High-Sensitivity High-Temperature Fiber Sensor With A Dispersion Compensation Fiber-Based Interferometer, Bo Dong, Li Wei, Da-Peng Zhou Nov 2009

Miniature High-Sensitivity High-Temperature Fiber Sensor With A Dispersion Compensation Fiber-Based Interferometer, Bo Dong, Li Wei, Da-Peng Zhou

Physics and Computer Science Faculty Publications

A miniature high-sensitivity, high-temperature fiber sensor with an interferometer based on a bare small-core-diameter dispersion compensation fiber (DCF) is reported. The sensing head is a single-mode-fiber (SMF) DCF configuration formed by a 4 mm long bare DCF with one end connected to the SMF by a fusion splicing technique and the other end cleaved. Due to the large mode index difference and high thermo-optic coefficient induced by two dominative interference modes, a miniature high-temperature fiber sensor with a high sensitivity of 68.6 pm/°C is obtained by monitoring the wavelength shift of the interference spectrum. This type of sensor has the …

Radiation Force Of Scalar And Electromagnetic Twisted Gaussian Schell-Model Beams, Chengliang Zhao, Yangjian Cai, Olga Korotkova Nov 2009

Radiation Force Of Scalar And Electromagnetic Twisted Gaussian Schell-Model Beams, Chengliang Zhao, Yangjian Cai, Olga Korotkova

Physics Articles and Papers

Radiation force of a focused scalar twisted Gaussian Schell-model (TGSM) beam on a Rayleigh dielectric sphere is investigated. It is found that the twist phase affects the radiation force and by raising the absolute value of the twist factor it is possible to increase both transverse and longitudinal trapping ranges at the real focus where the maximum on-axis intensity is located. Numerical calculations of radiation forces induced by a focused electromagnetic TGSM beam on a Rayleigh dielectric sphere are carried out. It is found that radiation force is closely related to the twist phase, degree of polarization and correlation factors …

Relationship Banker : Eugene W. Stetson, Wall Street, And American Business, 1916-1959, James L. Hunt

Books and Chapters

In 1916, Eugene W. Stetson, a thirty-five year old banker from Macon, Georgia, became a vice-president with the Guaranty Trust Company of New York, a 'Morgan Bank'. Although by this time Pierpont Morgan was dead, Guaranty still resided fully within the Morgan firm's orbit, its broader policies controlled by the votes of Morgan partners. Stetson took full advantage of the Guaranty-Morgan opportunity. Between 1916 and his death in 1959, he became president and chairman of Guaranty. He survived the booms and busts of World War I and its aftermath, the stock-crazed 1920s, the transformation of banking in the Depression, and …
