Interdisciplinary Project-Based Model For Enhanced Instruction Of Courses, Douglas Johansen, Claudia Scaff, Jace Hargis Jan 2009

Interdisciplinary Project-Based Model For Enhanced Instruction Of Courses, Douglas Johansen, Claudia Scaff, Jace Hargis

International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning

This study examines ability of an interdisciplinary group project to develop student’s abilities to work successfully in groups in a creative context. Group dynamics were investigated via interaction effects between students in a Graphic Design and Marketing class project. A repeated measures survey technique was used to assess student’s perceptions of group projects and their attributes. As a result of the project, student perceptions concerning the importance of creative contributions, as well as group participation factors became more positive, demonstrating that interdisciplinary group projects with students in a creative discipline offer business students a unique “outside the box” learning opportunity.

International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning

Excerpt: According to Terry Doyle in his book Helping Students Learn in a Learner-Centered Environment, “Most important, this book has been written to answer the single most asked question I hear when working with faculty groups: How do I help my students adjust to a learner-centered practice?” As desired, Doyle has offered some excellent answers for faculty struggling to transform their students into lifelong learners.

Teacher Education For Undergraduates, Alicia Leger

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

This is a capstone research project to assess the effectiveness of a bachelor's degree in the Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) in preparing the undergraduate student to become an elementary school teacher. I will be assessing the course pathways in comparison to scholarly research in the field of teacher preparation education. I will be using both Grounded Theory, an inductive theory composed from a wide selection of data, and Bloom's Taxonomy of Learning to review the literature. Mckillop Library Electricity Use, Impacts And Solutions, Nellie Tarini, Marisa Volo, Carly Ouellette, Other Students

BIO140 Carbon Footprint Project

A few weeks ago, our class went on a guided tour of the library, which taught us about what goes on in the library, how resources are used, and basically how the library operates. From our tour, we saw many problem areas that could use improvements. One of these areas is the library’s use of electricity. Our group focused on the computers, printers, copiers, lights, and elevators in the library and how the library could use their electricity more efficiently. We have found that the library is not always using electricity effectively and efficiently. There are lights on when nobody …

Saudi Medical Journal

OBJECTIVE: We assessed the role of bibliometric methods in representing quantitative and qualitative differences in biomedical research outputs in Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates UAE. METHODS: Data on biomedical research productivity for years 1988-2007 were obtained from PubMed then imported into a specifically designed local database system and normalized to the population size for each country. RESULTS: Data reveal a continuous increase in research production in Lebanon, whereas a plateau phase is observed in the UAE between 1998 and 2007. In Lebanon, most of the citations originated from the capital city of Beirut, mainly the American University of Beirut. …

This report presents current and future needs of neighborhood residents and analyzes the challenges facing the multi-ethnic, low-income Koreatown community in Los Angeles. For the thousands of low-income residents of Los Angeles's Koreatown, the economic hardships brought on by the recent subprime mortgage housing and financial crises are not new. In the words of a Koreatown resident, "....the housing 'crisis' has been a crisis for us for a long time." Well before the current recession, Koreatown residents were complaining of increased housing costs due to the influx of upscale luxury housing units that replaced affordable housing units. The 2008 financial …
