Analysis Of State Medicaid Agency Performance In Relation To Incentivizing The Provision Of H1n1 Immunizations To Eligible Populations, Nancy Lopez, Ross Margulies, Sara J. Rosenbaum Nov 2009

Analysis Of State Medicaid Agency Performance In Relation To Incentivizing The Provision Of H1n1 Immunizations To Eligible Populations, Nancy Lopez, Ross Margulies, Sara J. Rosenbaum

Health Policy and Management Faculty Publications

This analysis examines the extent to which state Medicaid agencies have translated a recent CMS guidance on vaccine coverage into clear information for participating providers clarifying payment for costs associated with the administration of H1N1 vaccines. This clarification may be particularly important in states that do not otherwise cover and pay for recommended immunizations as part of treating adult patients.

Teaching A School-Based Aac Team To Support The Communication Skills Of A Student Who Requires Aac, Amy Thatcher Nov 2009

Teaching A School-Based Aac Team To Support The Communication Skills Of A Student Who Requires Aac, Amy Thatcher

Speech and Hearing Sciences ETDs

Many children of all ages are in need of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Adult communication partners in the school setting typically interact differently with children who use AAC than they do with others. In prior studies, an eight-step instructional program designed to teach adult communication partners to facilitate the communication skills of students who use AAC has been used within an individual instructional format. The eight-step instructional model used to teach these adults has been shown to be effective; however, research is required to establish the efficacy of this program when providing instruction to adult communication partners within group …

Promoting Cultural Experiences Through Responsive Architecture, Shabonni Olivia Elkanah Nov 2009

Promoting Cultural Experiences Through Responsive Architecture, Shabonni Olivia Elkanah

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Dance, costume, and music are all reflective of a heritage that has been intact over three hundred years. The street activities during carnival season on the island of St. Kitts can be described as dynamic excitement between the onlookers, the Masqueraders, a local folklore group, and other carnival players. The interactive play amongst group members of the Masqueraders is one that tells a story of the colonization and perseverance of a nation influenced by Indian, European and African past. There is often, however a disconnection between an outsider, 'the audience', and the culture of the island. Only when the interactive …

Preparing Water Users In The Lower Rio Grande For Adjudication Through An Informative Workshop, Leslie R. Kryder Nov 2009

Preparing Water Users In The Lower Rio Grande For Adjudication Through An Informative Workshop, Leslie R. Kryder

Water Resources Professional Project Reports

The Lower Rio Grande basin in New Mexico is currently undergoing water right adjudication. The adjudication process is important to identify and quantify water uses throughout the Lower Rio Grande. It is intended to facilitate water rights administration by the Office of the State Engineer. Where water users do not understand the purpose and process, they may not participate effectively. Through conversations with irrigators and others familiar with the situation, I explore some of the water users perspectives regarding the adjudication. In general, the water users find the adjudication packets received from the Office of the State Engineer difficult to …

Library Leaders Needed: Yes, Please Apply, Rebecca Mcelrath

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Studies show that strong leaders are needed for the future's strong libraries and other organizations. Employees working at all levels of the organization, not just the titled leaders, will be making decisions that affect the library's mission and future. Employees working at all levels of an organization, therefore, will need to develop the leadership skills to make these decisions. Even without formal leadership training opportunities, a person can begin their personal leadership training. The purpose of this article is to provide historical background on leadership, identify skills and characteristics of leaders, and to provide practical tips for gaining leadership skills …

Enhancing Student Learning With Brain-Based Research, Ted Bonnema Nov 2009

Enhancing Student Learning With Brain-Based Research, Ted Bonnema

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

This paper discusses brain-based learning and its relation to classroom instruction. A growing quantity of research currently exists regarding how the brain perceives, processes, and ultimately learns new information. In order to maximize their teaching efficacy, educators should have a basic understanding of key memory functions in the brain, and how these functions relate to student learning. In this paper, the author surveys current literature to identify foundational instructional strategies that are supported by brain-based research. A Microsoft PowerPoint© presentation is included that is intended for use at an in-service training with the goal of providing participants with (1) an …

Investigation Of Van Gogh-Like 2 Mrna Regulation And Localisation In Response To Nociception In The Brain Of Adult Common Carp (Cyprinus Carpio), Siobhan C. Reilly, Anja Kipar, David J. Hughes, John P. Quinn, Andrew R. Cossins, Lynne U. Sneddon Nov 2009

Veterinary Science and Medicine Collection

The Van Gogh-like 2 (vangl2) gene is typically associated with planar cell polarity pathways, which is essential for correct orientation of epithelial cells during development. The encoded protein of this gene is a transmembrane protein and is highly conserved through evolution. Van Gogh-like 2 was selected for further study on the basis of consistent regulation after a nociceptive stimulus in adult common carp and rainbow trout in a microarray study. An in situ hybridisation was conducted in the brain of mature common carp (Cyprinus carpio), 1.5 and 3 h after a nociceptive stimulus comprising of an acetic acid injection to …

The Search For The Sacred In Gabrielle Roy, Ann Elizabeth Sumsion Nov 2009

The Search For The Sacred In Gabrielle Roy, Ann Elizabeth Sumsion

Theses and Dissertations

Many anthropological studies have shown the prevalence of the sacred in primitive societies, manifested primarily in significant gestures such as exchanges, rituals, festivals, and the use of time and space. Some studies, in particular those of Roger Caillois and Mircea Eliade, have demonstrated that traces of the sacred, though seemingly displaced, remain present in modern and secular societies. This thesis will examine and bring to light these remnants of sacred behavior in the contemporary settings of the stories of Gabrielle Roy, focusing primarily on food-sharing, gift-giving, and festivals. Each analysis presented will detail how different aspects of the sacred are …

Can Classical Noise Enhance Quantum Transmission?, Mark M. Wilde Nov 2009

Can Classical Noise Enhance Quantum Transmission?, Mark M. Wilde

Faculty Publications

A modified quantum teleportation protocol broadens the scope of the classical forbidden-interval theorems for stochastic resonance. The fidelity measures performance of quantum communication. The sender encodes the two classical bits for quantum teleportation as weak bipolar subthreshold signals and sends them over a noisy classical channel. Two forbidden-interval theorems provide a necessary and sufficient condition for the occurrence of the nonmonotone stochastic resonance effect in the fidelity of quantum teleportation. The condition is that the noise mean must fall outside a forbidden interval related to the detection threshold and signal value. An optimal amount of classical noise benefits quantum communication …
