Web Security Detection Tool, Abhishek Agashe Jan 2008

Web Security Detection Tool, Abhishek Agashe

Master's Projects

According to Government Computer News (GCN) web attacks have been marked as all- time high this year. GCN says that some of the leading security software like SOPHOS detected about 15,000 newly infected web pages daily in initial three months of 2008 [13]. This has lead to the need of efficient software to make web applications robust and sustainable to these attacks. While finding information on different types of attacks, I found that SQL injection and cross site scripting are the most famous among attackers. These attacks are used extensively since, they can be performed using different techniques and it …

Sql Injection Analysis, Detection And Prevention, Jagdish Halde

Master's Projects

Web sites are dynamic, static, and most of the time a combination of both. Web sites need protection in their database to assure security. An SQL injection attacks interactive web applications that provide database services. These applications take user inputs and use them to create an SQL query at run time. In an SQL injection attack, an attacker might insert a malicious SQL query as input to perform an unauthorized database operation. Using SQL injection attacks, an attacker can retrieve or modify confidential and sensitive information from the database. It may jeopardize the confidentiality and security of Web sites which …

Efficient Resource Management Mechanism For 802.16 Wireless Networks Based On Weighted Fair Queuing, Kiran Rangula Jan 2008

Efficient Resource Management Mechanism For 802.16 Wireless Networks Based On Weighted Fair Queuing, Kiran Rangula

Master's Projects

Wireless Networking continues on its path of being one of the most commonly used means of communication. The evolution of this technology has taken place through the design of various protocols. Some common wireless protocols are the WLAN, 802.16 or WiMAX, and the emerging 802.20, which specializes in high speed vehicular networks, taking the concept from 802.16 to higher levels of performance. As with any large network, congestion becomes an important issue. Congestion gains importance as more hosts join a wireless network. In most cases, congestion is caused by the lack of an efficient mechanism to deal with exponential increases …

Employee Performance Assessment In Quality Assurance, Rahul Jain Jan 2008

Employee Performance Assessment In Quality Assurance, Rahul Jain

Master's Projects

Employee performance often determines the progress of a company. Poor appraisals and improper assessment directly effects employee satisfaction and impair company results. Many managers rely primarily on behavioral impressions without appropriately including factual information of the actual work done. There is clear benefit from procedures that elicit and use both factual and subjective criteria for assessment. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is a methodology that can be applied to complex decisions with multiple criteria [29]. AHP has the capability to combine both subjective and objective evaluation factors, thereby minimizing bias in decision making [29]. The methodology also allows subjective measures from …

Design & Evaluation Of Path-Based Reputation System For Manet Routing, Ji Li Jan 2008

Design & Evaluation Of Path-Based Reputation System For Manet Routing, Ji Li

Master's Projects

Most of the existing reputation systems in mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) consider only node reputations when selecting routes. Reputation and trust are therefore generally ensured within a one-hop distance when routing decisions are made, which often fail to provide the most reliable, trusted route. In this report, we first summarize the background studies on the security of MANET. Then, we propose a system that is based on path reputation, which is computed from reputation and trust values of each and every node in the route. The use of path reputation greatly enhances the reliability of resulting routes. The detailed …

Role Of The Reactive Oxygen Species Peroxynitrite In Traumatic Brain Injury, Ying Deng Jan 2008

Role Of The Reactive Oxygen Species Peroxynitrite In Traumatic Brain Injury, Ying Deng

University of Kentucky Doctoral Dissertations

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) is cytotoxic to the cell and is known to contribute to secondary cell death following primary traumatic brain injury (TBI). We described in our study that PN is the main mediator for both lipid peroxidation and protein nitration, and occurred almost immediately after injury. As a downstream factor to oxidative damage, the peak of Ca2+-dependent, calpainmediated cytoskeletal proteolysis preceded that of neurodegeneration, suggesting that calpain-mediated proteolysis is the common pathway leading to neuronal cell death. The time course study clearly elucidated the interrelationship of these cellular changes following TBI, provided window of opportunity for pharmacological intervention. …

The growing prevalence of overweight and obesity among United States (U.S.) elderly people today is a health concern. Higher incidences of obesity and obesity-related health conditions and mortality exist in the southern area of the U.S. Understanding obesity in relation to obesity-related factors in this population is crucial. The purpose of this study was to identify regional differences and associations between obesity and obesity-related factors in Southern U.S. elderly people, as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, using data from the 2005 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), an existing telephone health survey administered by the Centers for Disease Control …

Support Vector Machine For High Throughput Rodent Sleep Behavior Classification, Shantilal Jan 2008

Support Vector Machine For High Throughput Rodent Sleep Behavior Classification, Shantilal

University of Kentucky Master's Theses

This thesis examines the application of a Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier to automatically detect sleep and quiet wake (rest) behavior in mice from pressure signals on their cage floor. Previous work employed Neural Networks (NN) and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) to successfully detect sleep and wake behaviors in mice. Although the LDA was successful in distinguishing between the sleep and wake behaviors, it has several limitations, which include the need to select a threshold and difficulty separating additional behaviors with subtle differences, such as sleep and rest. The SVM has advantages in that it offers greater degrees of freedom …

Determination Of The Extravascular Burden Of Carbon Monoxide (Co) On Human Heart, Kinnera Erupaka Jan 2008

Determination Of The Extravascular Burden Of Carbon Monoxide (Co) On Human Heart, Kinnera Erupaka

University of Kentucky Master's Theses

Noninvasive measurements of myocardial carboxymyoglobin levels (%MbCO) and oxygen tensions (PtO2) are difficult to obtain experimentally. We have developed a compartmental model which allows prediction of myocardial %MbCO levels and PtO2 for varied carbon monoxide (CO) exposures. The cardiac compartment in the model consists of vascular subcompartments which contain two tissue subcompartments varying in capillary density. Mass-balance equations for oxygen (O2) and CO are applied for all compartments. Myocardial oxygen consumption and blood flow are quantified from predictive formulas based on heart rate. Model predictions are validated with experimental data at normoxia, hypoxia, exercise and hyperoxia. CO exposures of varying …

Schottky Diodes From Cadmium Sulfide (Cds) Nanowires Deposited In Porous Alumina Templates, Shounak Mishra

University of Kentucky Master's Theses

This work aims to study the variation in electrical and optical properties of nanoscale Schottky diodes by varying their dimensions in the nanoscale. Experimental conditions for fabricating porous alumina with varying pore diameters and inter-pore distances were first optimized by anodizing Aluminum tape with variable currents. Cadmium Sulfide nanowires were then synthesized inside the membranes by dc electrodeposition. Finally a high work function metal was deposited on top as a contact for the metal-semiconductor Schottky diode junction. As a comparative study, Schottky diodes fabricated using the same metals and Cadmium Sulfide thin films deposited on conducting glass substrates using electro-deposition …

On The Noble And The Beautiful: An Essay In The Poetry Of Sappho And Tyrtaeus, Richard Reed Dworin Jan 2008

On The Noble And The Beautiful: An Essay In The Poetry Of Sappho And Tyrtaeus, Richard Reed Dworin

University of Kentucky Master's Theses

This thesis contends that Sappho's Fr. 16 is intended to oppose the definition of the term Καλόѵ in Tyrtaeus' elegies 10 and 12. An analysis of Tyrtaeus 10 reveals the poet's attempt to institute a new civic courage in Sparta, one shaped by an understanding of honor and shame centered around the young man's willingness to fight and, if necessary, die in battle. Remarkably, the successful practitioner of this courage will literally come to sight differently in the eyes of his fellow citizens. In Tyrtaeus 12, this courage is more clearly defined as τò Καλλɪσɪoѵ, the focus of a new …

Relationship adjustment research is being expanded beyond established connections with communication and individual functioning. In recent years, researchers have looked to positive psychology and virtues. That research shifts the focus from psychopathology and communication to more core values and ways of being. The present study seeks to expand this knowledge base using Blaine Fowers (2000) framework of marital virtues. His framework views what a person puts into an intimate relationship as an important predictor of relationship adjustment. The present study uses this framework in conjunction with previous research to examine the direct and indirect links amongst individual functioning, marital virtues, …

Stranded Core Transformer Loss Analysis, Xingxing Zhang Jan 2008

Stranded Core Transformer Loss Analysis, Xingxing Zhang

University of Kentucky Master's Theses

We will present the approaches used to investigating the power loss for the stranded core transformers. One advantage of using stranded core is to reduce power loss or enhance transformer efficiency. One difficulty in the modeling of this type of transformer is that the core is not solid (there are small gaps between core wires due to circular cross section). A two dimensional finite element method with nodal basis function for magnetostatic field was developed to study the effects of the small gaps between core wires. The magnetic flux densities are compared for the uniform (solid) cores and the stranded …

Hdl Implementation And Analysis Of A Residual Register For A Floating-Point Arithmetic Unit, Akil Kaveti Jan 2008

Hdl Implementation And Analysis Of A Residual Register For A Floating-Point Arithmetic Unit, Akil Kaveti

University of Kentucky Master's Theses

Processors used in lower-end scientific applications like graphic cards and video game consoles have IEEE single precision floating-point hardware [23]. Double precision offers higher precision at higher implementation cost and lower performance. The need for high precision computations in these applications is not enough to justify the use double precision hardware and the extra hardware complexity needed [23]. Native-pair arithmetic offers an interesting and feasible solution to this problem. This technique invented by T. J. Dekker uses single-length floating-point numbers to represent higher precision floating-point numbers [3]. Native-pair arithmetic has been proposed by Dr. William R. Dieter and Dr. Henry …

Parental Perceptions Of Nutritional Status Of Children With Autism, Rachel Corliss Holt Jan 2008

Parental Perceptions Of Nutritional Status Of Children With Autism, Rachel Corliss Holt

University of Kentucky Master's Theses

Literature shows that nutritional deficiency and feeding behaviors in neurodevelopmentally disabled children is secondary to an underdeveloped gastrointestinal tract. Fifty (50) parents with children with autism responded to a Nutritional Perception Assessment that they believe their children are at adequate nutritional status. They reported confidence in their nutritional knowledge, yet admitted to concern about the nutritional status of their children. The survey revealed that parents are not seeing a registered dietitian for their nutritional advice, leading to the question of soundness in nutritional information received. A marginal correlation was found between belief in adequate nutritional status of children and the …

Super Resolution 3d Scanning Using Spatial Light Modulator And Band Correction, Akshay Pethe Jan 2008

Super Resolution 3d Scanning Using Spatial Light Modulator And Band Correction, Akshay Pethe

University of Kentucky Master's Theses

Multi Frequency Phase Measuring Profilometry is the most popular lateral contact 3-D Scanning technique. The Phase Measuring Profilometry is limited in resolution by the projector and cameras used. Conventional signal projectors have a maximum of 2000 to 4000 scan lines limiting the projector resolution. To obtain greater detail with higher resolution the PMP technique is applied to a Spatial Light Modulator (SLM) having 12000 lines, very large as compared to conventional projectors. This technology can achieve super resolution scans having varied applications. Scans achieved from PMP suffer from a certain type of artifact called “banding” which are periodic bands across …

Aging And Sleep Stage Effects On Entropy Of Electroencephalogram Signals, Swetha Vennelaganti Jan 2008

Aging And Sleep Stage Effects On Entropy Of Electroencephalogram Signals, Swetha Vennelaganti

University of Kentucky Master's Theses

The aging brain is characterized by alteration in synaptic contacts, which leads to decline of motor and cognitive functions. These changes are reflected in the age related shifts in power spectrum of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals in both wakefulness and sleep. Various non-linear measures have been used to obtain more insights from EEG analysis compared to the conventional spectral analysis. In our study we used Sample Entropy to quantify regularity of the EEG signal. Because elderly subjects arouse from sleep more often than younger subjects, we hypothesized that Entropy of EEG signals from elderly subjects would be higher than that from …
