Developing A Virtual Community Of Practice Framework For A Dispersed Group Of Innovation Practitioners, Ami S. Henriques Dec 2008

Developing A Virtual Community Of Practice Framework For A Dispersed Group Of Innovation Practitioners, Ami S. Henriques

Creativity and Change Leadership Graduate Student Master's Projects

This project lays the groundwork for establishing a virtual community of practice (VCoP) for innovation professionals within my organization across 8 countries and multiple business units. The literature review includes definitions of communities of practice, how they vary from other types of groups and teams, the benefits they provide to the organization and to the individual, as well best practices and considerations for building and launching a VCoP. The deliverable is a proposal that will be submitted to the global leadership of the organization for review and approval.

An Innovation Culture Assessment Plan For A Department Of A Fortune 500 Company, Vincenzo Piscopo Dec 2008

An Innovation Culture Assessment Plan For A Department Of A Fortune 500 Company, Vincenzo Piscopo

Creativity and Change Leadership Graduate Student Master's Projects

This project presents an approach to assess the creative climate of a department of a Fortune 500 organization. This project includes a review of the approaches other organizations have taken to assess innovation climate, an evaluation of the approach the focal company currently uses and finally, a plan to assess the innovation climate for a department of the focal company. The proposed plan incorporates learnings from the reviewed literature, best practices from companies such as ?What If!, and institutions such as International Center for Studies in Creativity (ICSC), and my perspective on my experience with innovation in Corporate America.

Incorporating Thinking Tools To Enhance Facilitation Of Problem-Based Learning, John W. Yeo Dec 2008

Incorporating Thinking Tools To Enhance Facilitation Of Problem-Based Learning, John W. Yeo

Creativity and Change Leadership Graduate Student Master's Projects

This project focuses on a review of challenges some teachers experience during facilitation of Problem-based learning (PBL) and aims to design a training package to address the above challenge. This training package consists of some Thinking Tools that can enhance cognitive engagement in PBL. In addition, Thinking Tools equip teachers with a wider range of facilitation strategies to increase their flexibility to better meet the needs of each stage of PBL. Through the use of Thinking Tools, this training package provides opportunities to foster new relationships between teachers and students through the development of student-led enquiry-based learning activities. The Thinking …

Latest Information On Sterkfontein's Australopithecus Skeleton And A New Look At Australopithecus, Ronald J. Clarke Dec 2008

Latest Information On Sterkfontein's Australopithecus Skeleton And A New Look At Australopithecus, Ronald J. Clarke

KIP Articles

After a decade of careful excavation, it is now possible to explain how the skeleton came to be in that isolated position in the cavern. Furthermore, it is apparent that the fossil does not belong to either Australopithecus africanus or to A. afarensis, but to an individual belonging to, or closely affiliated to, the second Australopithecus species that is represented in Sterkfontein Member 4 and Makapansgat.

Mouthful Idol, Claudia Dishon Dec 2008

Mouthful Idol, Claudia Dishon

All Theses

In my work, I create an imaginative realm as a means to structure chaos. This fictional realm is a place to manifest my perceptions of the world. In alignment with my world view, the pieces exhibit multi-faceted sprays of information meant to explain a more rounded picture of reality. Mental clutter becomes visual clutter when realized in my prints. Recognizable objects, animals, foods, herbs, and written text are layered to form compositions that function abstractly at a distance. A closer inspection reveals identifiable forms within the layers of color and shape.
Haphazard imagery receives the same attention and support as …

Intolerable Situations And Counsel For Children: Following Switzerland's Example In Hague Abduction Cases , Merle H. Weiner Dec 2008

Intolerable Situations And Counsel For Children: Following Switzerland's Example In Hague Abduction Cases , Merle H. Weiner

American University Law Review

In the twilight days of 2007, Switzerland took decisive action to protect children who were being harmed by the application of the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction ("Hague Abduction Convention" or "Convention"). 1 Its Parliament passed the Federal Act on International Child Abduction and the Hague Conventions on the Protection of Children and Adults ("Swiss Act"). 2 The Swiss Act, which should enter into force in mid-2009, 3 gives important and necessary guidance to Swiss courts about the phrase "intolerable situation" in Article 13(b) of the Hague Abduction Convention. 4 The Swiss Act also directs …

Scattering Of An Electromagnetic Plane Wave By A Luneburg Lens. I. Ray Theory, James A. Lock Dec 2008

Scattering Of An Electromagnetic Plane Wave By A Luneburg Lens. I. Ray Theory, James A. Lock

Physics Faculty Publications

For a plane wave incident on either a Luneburg lens or a modified Luneburg lens, the magnitude and phase of the transmitted electric field are calculated as a function of the scattering angle in the context of ray theory. It is found that the ray trajectory and the scattered intensity are not uniformly convergent in the vicinity of edge ray incidence on a Luneburg lens, which corresponds to the semiclassical phenomenon of orbiting. In addition, it is found that rays transmitted through a large-focal-length modified Luneburg lens participate in a far-zone rainbow, the details of which are exactly analytically soluble …

Scattering Of An Electromagnetic Plane Wave By A Luneburg Lens. Ii. Wave Theory, James A. Lock Dec 2008

Scattering Of An Electromagnetic Plane Wave By A Luneburg Lens. Ii. Wave Theory, James A. Lock

Physics Faculty Publications

The partial wave scattering and interior amplitudes for the interaction of an electromagnetic plane wave with a modified Luneburg lens are derived in terms of the exterior and interior radial functions of the scalar radiation potentials evaluated at the lens surface. A Debye series decomposition of these amplitudes is also performed and discussed. The effective potential inside the lens for the transverse electric polarization is qualitatively examined, and the approximate lens size parameters of morphology-dependent resonances are determined. Finally, the physical optics model is used to calculate wave scattering in the vicinity of the ray theory orbiting condition in order …
