Topographic Effects On The Path And Evolution Of Loop Current Eddies, Kyung Hoon Hyun, Patrick J. Hogan Dec 2008

Topographic Effects On The Path And Evolution Of Loop Current Eddies, Kyung Hoon Hyun, Patrick J. Hogan

Faculty Publications

Eddy-topography (ET) interactions are important in determining the path and evolution of oceanic eddies, including Loop Current Eddies (LCE) in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM). We use the Hybrid Coordinate Ocean Model and satellite altimetry data to investigate the ET interactions and the impact on LCE pathway evolution in the GOM. Satellite altimetry reveals that LCEs translate dominantly westward in the central GOM and strongly collide and reflect against topography near the continental slope in the northern and western GOM. The result is the frequent generation of an anticyclone-cyclone (AC) pair in conjunction with the LCEs. In the absence of …

Frequency Tunable Resonant Apparatus, Aristide Dogariu, Pieter Kik Dec 2008

Frequency Tunable Resonant Apparatus, Aristide Dogariu, Pieter Kik

UCF Patents

Tuning of the resonant state of a structure that scatters optical fields is achieved by varying the effective optical properties of the environment of a small conductive structure. The frequency tunable resonant scatterer includes a medium, a conductive structure within that medium and a second structure in the vicinity of said conductive structure, wherein the plasmon resonance of said conductive structure is tuned by way of the proximity of said second structure to said conductive structure. The second structure is gradually moved away from and closer to the nanoparticle to change the effective dielectric constant for tuning a resonance frequency …

The Effect Of A Curriculum For Mental Training Accompanying Skill Learning On Learning Some Basic Handball Skills, Mahmoud Mousa Al-Okeili Dec 2008

The Effect Of A Curriculum For Mental Training Accompanying Skill Learning On Learning Some Basic Handball Skills, Mahmoud Mousa Al-Okeili

Modern Sport

Mental training is considered one of the sports training technology strategies that has attracted the attention of many specialists in the field due to its positive and effective role in improving performance levels, especially as mental and psychological skills have become important for enhancing performance. The ability to perform mental training is a key variable that affects performance, as it is used to visualize the performance by mentally redownloading the skill, which includes eliminating errors by imagining the correct method of execution. Most individuals who have a clear understanding of the main aspects of a skill can use mental training …

The research aims to identify the relationship between anthropometric and functional measurements and skill performance, as well as to determine the contribution ratio of these measurements to skill performance. The researcher used the descriptive method, and the sample included 10 female tennis players. Some anthropometric and functional measurements and skill tests, selected by experts and specialists, were used. After applying appropriate statistical methods, the researcher reached several key conclusions: there is a statistically significant correlation between certain anthropometric and functional measurements and skill performance. The most important contributing measurements to skill performance are total body height, arm length, contracted and …

The Effect Of Isotonic Exercises Using Kinetic Rhythm In Evaluating The General State Of The Kinetic System (Motor Equilibrium) And The Variable Muscular Strength Of The Legs For Patients With Multiple Sclerosis, Mona Talib Thabet Dec 2008

The Effect Of Isotonic Exercises Using Kinetic Rhythm In Evaluating The General State Of The Kinetic System (Motor Equilibrium) And The Variable Muscular Strength Of The Legs For Patients With Multiple Sclerosis, Mona Talib Thabet

Modern Sport

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease affecting the central nervous system, where the patient loses the ability to control nerves, with symptoms that are variable and unpredictable, ranging from vision weakness, difficulty in movement or speech, to general fatigue—essentially causing a widespread imbalance in the body. Currently, there is no definitive cure for MS, partly because its symptoms fluctuate over time, making it difficult to assess the effectiveness of treatments; thus, managing the disease to prevent deterioration is crucial. Movement originates from the nervous system, which sends signals to muscles to perform specific actions, requiring mental focus and training …

Studying The Attitudes Of Male And Female Teachers Towards Physical Education Lessons In Primary Schools In Baghdad Governorate, Najah Mahdi Shalash, Sawsan Saleh Khalaf

Modern Sport

The research problem was defined by studying the main motivations of physical education teachers in elementary schools toward the lesson and the impact of variables such as gender and teaching experience on these motivations. To investigate this problem, a descriptive method was used, selecting a sample of physical education teachers from the Open Educational College, including 20 female teachers and 40 male teachers. They were given a questionnaire containing twenty questions, each representing either a positive or negative attitude. The research concluded that the teachers’ attitudes, both male and female, aligned with the standardized levels of the measurement tool; there …

Some Physical Measurements And Their Relationship To The Accuracy Of The Performance Of The Skill Of Straight Crushing Hitting With Volleyball, Suhad Qasem Saeed

Modern Sport

The research aimed to explore the relationship between anthropometric and functional measurements and skill performance, as well as to determine the contribution of these measurements to skill performance. The researcher used a descriptive method with a sample consisting of 10 female tennis players, employing various anthropometric and functional measurements and skill tests recommended by experts. The findings highlighted that progress in skill performance in sports activities depends fundamentally on key physical capacities and anthropometric measurements, which are essential factors in achieving high performance levels and are critical for motor skill success. The research problem focused on identifying the relationship between …

Setting Standard Grades And Levels For Some Basic Basketball Skills For Students Of The Department Of Physical Education In The Faculty Of Basic Education, Ahmed Moayad Hussein, Ahmed Raad Ibrahim, Mohammed Khaled Ahmed

Modern Sport

The importance of this research lies in establishing standardized scores and levels for some basic basketball skills due to the lack of fixed and specific standards to measure students’ performance in these fundamental skills. The research problem arises from the absence of reference criteria when attempting to determine students’ skill levels in basketball. The study aimed to develop standardized scores and levels for certain basic basketball skills. The research scope included the human domain—first-year students in the Physical Education Department at the College of Basic Education, University of Mosul, during the academic year 2007/2008; the time frame—from November 1, 2007, …

Impact Style Of The Changeable Resistance In The Development Of Some Of The Physical & Functional Changes For The National Team For The Badminton, Abeer Dakhil Hatim

Modern Sport

Badminton is considered one of the most effective sports for developing physical fitness, as it requires competition, extensive running, jumping, quick reactions, and coordinated eye-hand movements. The game demands heightened awareness and precise timing, especially during jumps or support movements, where players must accurately judge the ball's trajectory when sending or receiving from an opponent. Given these demands, it is essential to implement advanced technical exercises to raise the performance of national team players. Based on this need, the two researchers focused on enhancing sensory perception and movement recognition, which are critical for players to maintain proper positioning during gameplay. …
