Walters was born in Washington D.C. and joined the Navy in 1943; between 1957 and 1958, during what was known as the International Geophysical Year, Walters was a supply officer at the McMurdo Naval Air Facility in the Antarctica. Optical Hyperspace For Plasmons: Dyakonov States In Metamaterials, Zubin Jacob, Evgenii E. Narimanov
Optical Hyperspace For Plasmons: Dyakonov States In Metamaterials, Zubin Jacob, Evgenii E. Narimanov
Birck and NCN Publications
We show that the subdiffraction imaging behavior observed in the magnifying superlens experiment, [Smolyaninov , Science 317, 1699 (2007)] is due to the hyperbolic dispersion of Dyakonov plasmons supported by the device. These states which are a special case of Dyakonov surface waves [Dyakonov, Sov. Phys. JETP 67, 714 (1988)] exist at the interface of a metal and an anisotropic dielectric giving rise to plasmon beams on resonance. Furthermore, we describe how the unique properties of metamaterial Dyakonov plasmons can be tailored for plasmonic devices.
Altered States Of Style: The Drug-Induced Development Of Jack Kerouac's Spontaneous Prose, Eric M. Izant
Altered States Of Style: The Drug-Induced Development Of Jack Kerouac's Spontaneous Prose, Eric M. Izant

Jack Kerouac's spontaneous prose method was inspired in part by his use of drugs while writing. This thesis attempts to demonstrate that the altered states of consciousness produced by Kerouac's drug use should be considered in conjunction with historical, cultural, and biographical forces in tracing the evolution of Kerouac's creative growth. As a member of the Beat Generation, Kerouac used drugs both as a social statement of rebellion and for artistic insight. In fact, he …
