Faecal-Centric Approaches To Wildlife Ecology And Conservation; Methods, Data And Ethics, C. T. Darimont, T. E. Reimchen, H. M. Bryan, P. C. Paquet
Ethics and Conservation Biology Collection
Abundant and commonly encountered in the field, wildlife faeces have long attracted scientists. Recent advances in molecular techniques, however, especially when coupled with creative study designs, can now yield a great variety of high quality data. Herein, we review the opportunities and challenges of faecal-centric approaches to address ecological and conservation questions using wolves of coastal British Columbia, Canada, as a case system. We begin by discussing methodological considerations, which should have broad applicability to any wildlife study system. We then summarize the extensive and unique variety of data that has emerged from our ‘facts from faeces’ approach with wolves, …

The Rhetoric Of Predictability: Reclaiming The Lay Ear In Music Copyright Infringement Litigation, Austin Padgett
The Rhetoric Of Predictability: Reclaiming The Lay Ear In Music Copyright Infringement Litigation, Austin Padgett
The University of New Hampshire Law Review
[Excerpt] “Some things cannot be described. This is the theory that recent literary criticism has placed as its cornerstone. Philosopher-critic Roland Barthes identified this trend in his Mythologies, stating that critics often “suddenly decide that the true subject of criticism is ineffable, and criticism, as a consequence, unnecessary. Unfortunately, this view has become singular within the legal academy whenever an author discusses music copyright infringement analysis. It seems that scholars fear the thought of trusting a jury with such an “ineffable” subject as music and must propose alternatives, such as expert testimony, specialized courts, or mechanical analysis, that will diminish …

Lightness Of Being And The Burden Of Gravity, Emily Don Mixon
Lightness Of Being And The Burden Of Gravity, Emily Don Mixon
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
The challenge of the human condition is to bear the loss that comes with every second, moving forward, breathing without thinking; moving forward, through moments that pass so uneventfully that we will not recall them, along with moments that we experience so profoundly that we begin to use them as landmarks in our personal histories. My view of time is of something that surrounds me and becomes a part of my identity. Yet, as I contemplate what it means to BE, I must face the constancy with which that being also changes. Regardless of the things that I remember, or …

Relationship Between High School Theatre Participation And The Development Of Workplace Competencies, Dean Charles Slusser
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
In an age of educational accountability, high school theatre sponsors often have to defend the presence of, and funding for, their programs. The purpose of this study was to identify the perceptions of Georgia Thespian Sponsors concerning (1) the importance of certain workplace competencies, (2) the presence of opportunities for students to acquire or develop those competencies through participation in theatre, (3) the relationship between these two factors, and (4) the role of perceptions concerning administrative support in the presence of opportunities to acquire or develop workplace skills through theatre participation. The researcher developed and distributed an original instrument addressing …
