Window-Updated Method For Strapdown Inertial Navigation Systems Based On Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System, Ahmed Mudher
Iraqi Journal of Computers, Communications, Control and Systems Engineering
The last two decades have shown in increasing trend in the use of nanigation technologies such as Strapdown Inertial Systems (SDINS) in several applications including land vehicles and automated car navigation. On the other hand it can cause large position errors over short time, due to the low quality of the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). These errors determine the performance and the navigation accuracy of the INSs. Although the huge efforts to improve SDINSin terms of its mechanization equations,it could not cover the remaining drawbacks of SDINS; such as the impact of INS short term errors ,model dependency ,prior knowledge …

Design Of A Pic Based Dual Sensing Motion Detector, Areej Alaa, Abeer Fadhil Shamal
Iraqi Journal of Computers, Communications, Control and Systems Engineering
Motion detectors are widely implemented in the design of intruder alarm systems. While these detectors in their raw state can have high detection sensitivity, this comes at the expense of generating higher false alarm rates. The most popular motion detection techniques implement either Passive infrared motion sensors or Active Continuous Wave Microwave Doppler motion sensors. Motion detectors using Dual Detectors employing both Doppler Microwave (MW) and Passive Infrared (PIR) motion sensors provide a new performance level where the feature of both sensors are combined while avoiding the disadvantages of both. The sensors are combined through a microprocessor to provide” intelligent …

Iraqi Journal of Computers, Communications, Control and Systems Engineering
Estimating the number of sources impinging on an array of sensors is a well known and well investigated problem .A common approach for solving this problem is to use an information theoretic criterion, such as Minimum Description Length (MDL) . MDL technique is very important in many application , but its response degrades under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) conditions. This paper proposes a new system to estimate the number of sources by applying MDL to the output of the filter bank consisting quadrature mirror filters (QMF) . Some numerical experiments show that the proposed method can estimate the number of …

Cardozo Law Review
The Constitution of the United States declares itself supreme law, but even the amended document is ancient. By 2008, the predicted age of a randomly selected word in this text reached 178 years. The judiciary, for its part, might not interpret the text until decades after ratification. For Article V amendments, the average lag between ratification and Supreme Court interpretation has been about 40 years. The question is how these features of our supreme law might influence the choice of interpretive method and, ultimately, constitutional decision-making. In particular, some scholars indicate that originalism may be a strong force in adjudication …

Dependence Of The Performance Of Single Photon Avalanche Diodes On The Multiplication Region Width, David A. Ramirez, Majeed M. Hayat, Mark A. Itzler
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research and Publications
The dependence of the performance of separate-absorption-multiplication (SAM) single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) on the width of the multiplication region is theoretically investigated. The theory is applied to SAM SPADs with InP homojunction multiplication regions and InAlAs-InP heterojunction multiplication regions. In both cases the absorber layer is InGaAs. Two scenarios for the dark counts are considered: (i) low-temperature operation, when the number of dark carriers is dominated by field-assisted mechanisms of band-to-band tunneling and tunneling through defects; and (ii) room-temperature operation, when the number of dark carriers in the multiplication region is dominated by the generation/recombination mechanism. The analysis utilizes a …

Holographic Fabrication Of Photonic Crystals Using Multidimensional Phase Masks, Yuankun Lin, Ahmad Harb, Daniel Rodriguez, Karen Lozano, Di Xu, K. P. Chen
Mechanical Engineering Faculty Publications
This paper reports the experimental approaches to the fabrication of two-layer integrated phase masks and the fabrication of photonic crystal templates using the phase mask based on holographic lithography technique. The photonic crystal template is formed by exposing photoresist mixtures to five-beam interference patterns generated through the phase mask. The fabricated phase mask consists of two layers of orthogonally oriented gratings produced in a liquid crystal and photoresist mixture. A polymerization-induced phase separation preserves the grating structure during the exposure. The vertical spatial separation between two layers of gratings produces a phase difference among diffracted laser beams, which enables the …

Robust Regularized Kernel Regression, Jianke Zhu, Steven C. H. Hoi, Michael R. Lyu
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Robust regression techniques are critical to fitting data with noise in real-world applications. Most previous work of robust kernel regression is usually formulated into a dual form, which is then solved by some quadratic program solver consequently. In this correspondence, we propose a new formulation for robust regularized kernel regression under the theoretical framework of regularization networks and then tackle the optimization problem directly in the primal. We show that the primal and dual approaches are equivalent to achieving similar regression performance, but the primal formulation is more efficient and easier to be implemented than the dual one. Different from …

The benefits and drawbacks of a 5-hp reconfigurable induction motor, which was designed for experimental emulation of stator winding interturn and broken rotor bar faults, are presented in this paper. It was perceived that this motor had the potential of quick and easy reconfiguration to produce the desired stator and rotor faults in a variety of different fault combinations. Hence, this motor was anticipated to make a useful test bed for evaluation of the efficacy of existing and new motor fault diagnostics techniques and not the study of insulation failure mechanisms. Accordingly, it was anticipated that this reconfigurable motor would …

Highly spin-polarized diluted ferromagnetic semiconductors are expected to be widely used as ideal spin injectors. Here, extensive first-principles density-functional theory calculations have been performed to investigate the feasibility of using Cr- and Mn-doped wurtzite polar AlN/GaN(0001) heterostructures, with the aim to realize the appealing half-metallic character and, hence, efficient electrical spin injection. To overcome the formation of detrimental embedded clusters, we propose digital delta-layer doping perpendicular to the growth direction so as to realize enhanced performance at room temperature. The formation energy, electronic and magnetic properties, and the degree of spin polarization for both neutral and charged valence states for …

The structural properties and crystallization behaviour of xNa2O-(100-x)TeO2 (0 <= x <= 33.3, x-% mole fraction) glasses have been investigated by Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The Raman spectra of glasses show systematic changes in structural units, from TeO4 trigonal bypiramids (tbps) to TeO3 trigonal pyramids (tps) with increasing Na2O content in glass. These structural changes are result of Te-eqOax-Te disruption and the formation of non-bridging oxygens (NBOs) in glass network. when heated at 623 K for 10 h glasses crystallized to different phases: alpha-TeO2, Na2Te4O9 and a new crystalline phase which is believed to be a polymorph of Na2Te2O5.

In this paper, we focus on the visualization of heterogeneous semantic networks obtained from multiple data sources. A semantic network comprising a set of entities and relationships is often used for representing knowledge derived from textual data or database records. Although the semantic networks created for the same domain at different data sources may cover a similar set of entities, these networks could also be very different because of naming conventions, coverage, view points, and other reasons. Since digital libraries often contain data from multiple sources, we propose a visualization tool to integrate and analyze the differences among multiple social …
