New Species Of Cucujomyces (Laboulbeniales) On Chilean Leiodidae, Walter Rossi, Alex Weir
Aliso: A Journal of Systematic and Floristic Botany
Four new species of Cucujomyces (Laboulbeniales) parasitic on Leiodidae (Coleoptera) from Chile are described and illustrated: Cucujomyces dasypelatis on Dasypelates nebulosus, C. gratiellae on Hydnodietus brunneus, C. neohydnobii on Neohydnobius argentinicus, and C. newtonii on Metahydnobius spp. The new taxa are compared with other known species of Cucujomyces. Morphological variation encountered in one of the new species, C. gratiellae, encompasses attributes of both Cucujomyces and Balazucia, necessitating Balazucia to be placed in synonymy under Cucujomyces. On the basis of this, two new combinations, Cucujomyces bilateralis and C. japonicus, are proposed.

Mitochondrial Redox Signaling By P66shc Is Involved In Regulating Androgenic Growth Stimulation Of Human Prostate Cancer Cells., Suresh Veeramani, Ta-Chun Yuan, Fen-Fen Lin, Ming-Fong Lin

p66Shc is shown to negatively regulate the life span in mice through reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Recent reports, however, revealed that p66Shc protein level is significantly elevated in several human cancer tissues and growth-stimulated carcinoma cells, suggesting a mitogenic and carcinogenic role for p66Shc. In this communication, we demonstrate for the first time that p66Shc mediates androgenic growth signals in androgen-sensitive human prostate cancer cells through mitochondrial ROS production. Growth stimulation of prostate cancer cells with 5alpha-dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is accompanied by increased p66Shc level and ROS production, which is abolished by antioxidant treatments. This research presents an inaugural general method of measuring the collaborative and confrontational interoperability of a heterogeneous set of systems in the context of an operational process. The method is holistic, fundamental, flexible, and mathematical in nature and accommodates all types of systems and interoperations. The method relates the interoperability measurement to measures of operational effectiveness for confrontational operational processes. Extant leveling methods of describing interoperability are shown to be a special case of the more general method given in this research and the general interoperability measurement method is demonstrated through the presentation of coalition interoperability, suppression of enemy air …

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Precipitation Rates And Atmospheric Heat Transport During The Cenomanian Greenhouse Warming In North America: Estimates From A Stable Isotope Mass-Balance Model, David F. Ufnar, Greg A. Ludvigson, Luis González, Darren R. Gröcke

Stable isotope mass-balance modeling results of meteoric δ18O values from the Cenomanian Stage of the Cretaceous Western Interior Basin (KWIB) suggest that precipitation and evaporation fluxes were greater than that of the present and significantly different from simulations of Albian KWIB paleohydrology. Sphaerosiderite meteoric δ18O values have been compiled from the Lower Tuscaloosa Formation of southwestern Mississippi (25°N paleolatitude), The Dakota Formation Rose Creek Pit, Fairbury Nebraska (35°N) and the Dunvegan Formation of eastern British Columbia (55°N paleolatitude). These paleosol siderite δ18O values define a paleolatitudinal gradient ranging from − 4.2‰ VPDB at 25°N …

The subject invention pertains to tumor cell lines useful for increasing the proliferation potential of any human or animal cell in culture, thereby providing immortalized or continuous cell lines and cultures. The invention also concerns proliferation factors, and compositions containing the factors, which are capable of increasing the proliferation potential of any human or other animal cell in culture. The present invention concerns compositions and methods of extracting infectious pathogens from a volume of blood. In one embodiment, the method includes the steps of creating a fibrin aggregate confining the pathogens and introducing a fibrin lysis reagent to expose the pathogens for analysis. The present invention also concerns materials and methods for removing aurintricarboxylic acid (ATA) from a sample.
