Bryn Mawr College Outline Concept Plan Update. Final Development Report: A Range Of Options, Venturi, Scott Brown And Associates Apr 2008

Bryn Mawr College Outline Concept Plan Update. Final Development Report: A Range Of Options, Venturi, Scott Brown And Associates

Reports and Plans

From the Introduction: "Bryn Mawr College has chosen to update and re-evaluate its 1997 Outline Concept Plan as it completes its Challenging Women campaign and prepares for a new president. A revised and updated Concept Plan can provide a renewed framework for making decisions, accommodating expansion or change, and setting priorities among projects. In this report, which marks the end of our study, we outline our impressions of the campus and our interpretation of its development, describe the changes made since our 1997 plan, and sketch out our understanding of Bryn Mawr’s aspirations, issues and opportunities related to campus development."

This paper examines the use of impoliteness by Spanish–English bilingual pre-adolescents as a resource for accomplishing identities in spontaneous conversational interactions in an elementary school setting. The theoretical approach employed integrates the concept of relational work (Locher 2004; Locher and Watts 2005), which is based on Goffman's (1967) notion of face and which privileges participants' evaluation of language behavior within the norms of the community of practice, with recent work in sociocultural linguistics (Bucholtz and Hall 2004a, 2004b, 2005). This approach views identity as an interactional achievement reached through the use of what they call tactics of intersubjectivity. In this …

Whose Life Is It Anyway ?, Matthew Ryan Giba Apr 2008

Whose Life Is It Anyway ?, Matthew Ryan Giba

USF St. Petersburg campus Honors Program Theses (Undergraduate)

This thesis reflects upon what elders have experienced in their lives. When looking at the past, the entire account of events which transpired is rarely, accurately portrayed. Since it is not possible to experience all events personally, knowledge is limited to individual studies and assessments. Elders share their insight and intimate understanding about their experiences. "Visiting" with the past gives a unique comprehension of it, finding a unique identity, and provides valuable perspective navigating into the future.

Humint Or Webint? Concept Study On Possible Routes For Improving Knowledge Discovery Within Organizations, Nader Naghshineh Apr 2008

Humint Or Webint? Concept Study On Possible Routes For Improving Knowledge Discovery Within Organizations, Nader Naghshineh

Proceedings of the IATUL Conferences

The history of science is replete with instances of constant sociological and economic challenges posed by technical breakthroughs. On the other hand one could equally argue that it had been the sociological factors fomenting such breakthroughs. Both interpretations lead to the same effect, the increased complexity of the information sphere confronting us everyday. A number of researchers such as Shannon have argued an entropic effect for information. Some psychologist have suggested that our history from the standpoint of information dexterity could be interpreted by the degree of interaction of individual intelligence with collective intelligence as represented by institutions –such as …
