Can The Confluence Model Predict Female Sexual Aggression?, Nichole M. Clay-Valorio Sep 2008

Can The Confluence Model Predict Female Sexual Aggression?, Nichole M. Clay-Valorio

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this exploratory investigation was to test the pathways of the Confluence Model of Sexual Aggression (Malamuth, Heavey & Linz, 1996) for prediction of self-reported female sexual aggression utilizing various computerized measures with college aged female participants (n = 104). The confluence model states that sexual aggression is the interactive result of two simultaneous pathways: hostile masculinity (and/or hostile femininity) and impersonal sex. It was hypothesized that a combination of either of the hostility pathways (feminine vs. masculine) and the impersonal sex pathway would predict sexual aggression. Modified versions of the Sexual Experiences Scale (SES), Coercive Sexuality Scale …

The Effects Of Participation In Extracurricular Activities On Academic Performance In Secondary School Students, Elizabeth G. Rees Sep 2008

The Effects Of Participation In Extracurricular Activities On Academic Performance In Secondary School Students, Elizabeth G. Rees

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Various studies show that participation in extracurricular activities lead to success both academically and professionally. However, the general public has limited access to this research, and therefore many students are not benefiting from these programs. In this paper, the author reviews the published research of how participation in extracurricular activities affects academic success. She then uses this research to develop a promotional campaign that school administrators may use to educate parents, students, and teachers of the benefits of extracurricular activity participation. The projects are oriented toward presentations at school events and online access to school administrators and parents.

Time Interval To Diagnosis Of Bladder Cancer And Its Associated Outcomes, Lara Suh

Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether a prolonged delay in diagnosis of bladder cancer will result in worse outcomes for those patients, compared to those patients with a shorter diagnostic time interval. Data was collected on 247 patients newly diagnosed with transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder from January 1996 to December 2006 (10 years). The medical records of these patients were reviewed for demographics, pathological stage, date of consultation to the genitourinary (GU) service, and date of diagnosis by transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT). The specialty delay was calculated as the time between the date …

Determinants Of Student Preferences For Teaching Behaviors In The Ambulatory Setting, Brian Yablon Sep 2008

Determinants Of Student Preferences For Teaching Behaviors In The Ambulatory Setting, Brian Yablon

Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library

The purpose of this research was to examine the influence of demographic and cultural factors on learner preferences for teaching behaviors in the ambulatory internal medicine clerkship. To that end, 50 medical students at each of four US institutions (BU, Tufts, UMass, and Yale) and 50 British medical students at the University of Cambridge were invited to complete a survey on teaching behaviors in the ambulatory setting, evaluating items on two scales: one rating the behavior's importance, and one rating how highly the student recommended the behavior. Behaviors rated highly on both scales were considered "valued" by the student. Students' …

Factorial And Construct Validity Of The Revised Short Form Integrative Psychotherapy Alliance Scales For Family, Couple, And Individual Therapy, William M. Pinsof, Richard E. Zinbarg, Lynne M. Knobloch-Fedders

Psychology Faculty Research and Publications

The Integrative Psychotherapy Alliance model brought an interpersonal and systemic perspective to bear on theory, research, and practice on the psychotherapeutic alliance. Questions have been raised about the independence of the theoretical factors in the model and their operationalization in the Individual, Couple, and Family Therapy Alliance Scales. This paper presents results of a confirmatory factor analysis of the scales that delineated at least three distinct interpersonal factors as well as shorter versions of the three scales to facilitate their use in research and practice. The paper also presents the results of a study testing each factor's association with client …

Non-Profit Health Care Services Marketing: Persuasive Messages Based On Multidimensional Concept Mapping And Direct Magnitude Estimation, Michael L. Hall

Arts & Sciences Faculty Publications

Persuasive messages for marketing healthcare services in general and coordinated care in particular are more important now for providers, hospitals, and third-party payers than ever before. The combination of measurement based information with creativity may be among the most critical factors in reaching markets or expanding markets. The research presented here provides an approach to marketing coordinated care services which allows healthcare managers to plan persuasive messages given the market conditions they face. Using market respondents’ thinking about product attributes combined with distance measurement between pairs of product attributes, a conceptual marketing map is presented and applied to advertising, message …
