HIV and AIDS
In KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, in Durban’s peri-urban community of Valley of 1000 Hills, Horizons partnered with Valley Trust to implement and evaluate a program to provide education and support to orphans and vulnerable children. The study utilized a pre-post test design to assess the feasibility and impact of building the capacity of youth aged 18–24 years to provide HIV education and support to in-school orphans and vulnerable children in their communities. The Valley Trust Youth Caregiver Program trained older youth to provide HIV education, homework assistance, and psychosocial support to orphans and vulnerable children aged 11–15 years. The program …

Fairly Random: On Compensating Audited Taxpayers, Sarah B. Lawsky
Fairly Random: On Compensating Audited Taxpayers, Sarah B. Lawsky
Connecticut Law Review
Some academics and politicians have proposed that taxpayers should be reimbursed for costs of randomly imposed tax audits, because, they argue, randomly imposing audit costs is unfair. But none of those proposing audit compensation have explained why randomly imposed audit costs are unfair, or why, if these randomly imposed costs are unfair, this unfairness necessarily means that taxpayers should be compensated. What do we actually teach and how advanced are our educational programs in general, and academic education in particular? Is there a concrete consensus on the interdependencies between different types of human rights, their hierarchy, and the standards of their protection? Is an optimistic attitude regarding the universalistic doctrine of human rights fully rooted in facts? How may we communicate to our students the concept of universally recognized, irremovable, and interdependent rights while acknowledging the many ethical, religious and cultural …

The Core Values Of The Legal Profession For Lawyers Today And Tomorrow, Jonathan Goldsmith
Northwestern Journal of International Law & Business
This Article began life as a speech I gave on the fifth anniversary of the Flemish Bar in Belgium (Orde Van Flaamse Balies) on 24 May 2007. It addresses the changes which are taking place in Europe and elsewhere in the world in relation to the regulation of lawyers, particularly insofar as the core values of the legal profession are concerned.
