A Crash Course In Infrastructure: Expensive But Essential Components For Rural (And Urban) Nebraska’S Future, Sandra K. Scofield
Rural Initiative Program: Publications and Reports
“Ironically rural America has become viewed by a growing number of Americans as having a higher quality of life not because of wat it has, but rather because of what it does not have.” This quote from an unknown author found by a graduate student in the University of Nebraska Rural Initiative focuses on a poin we often forget.
No doubt you can name many things we are happy not to have in rural Nebraska: smog, traffic jams, urban canyons, lack of green or open spaces, the list goes on. Many of these “deficiencies” amount to assets that rural areas …

The Anchor, Volume 122.04: September 17, 2008, Hope College
The Anchor: 2008
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

The Quality Of Life Of Caregivers Of Children With Special Needs., Cindy Flom-Meland
The Quality Of Life Of Caregivers Of Children With Special Needs., Cindy Flom-Meland
Theses and Dissertations
Dealing with a long-term illness, traumatic injury, or a life altering accident or event can be very stressful for the person in those circumstances. It can also be very stressful for the family members and, specifically, the direct caregivers. Comparisons of psychosocial factors have been researched in families of children with special needs and families of children without special needs. Families of children with special needs have been found to have greater financial stress, interruption of family structure and routine, disruption of leisure activities, decreased time for social interaction, and poorer physical and mental health. At the current time within …

Faculty And Administrative Perceptions Of Professional Programs At Three Private Liberal Arts Colleges., Debra M. Grosz
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this qualitative study was to determine faculty and administrator perceptions of and attitudes toward professional degree programs at liberal arts institutions. Three upper-Midwestern, private, liberal arts colleges of similar size and religious affiliation were selected for the study. Qualitative research methods were used in this study. Data were collected from a series of 15 interviews with select faculty and administrators. Analysis of the data resulted in three categories. The first category, image, included two themes: Interviewees could define and state the purpose of liberal arts colleges, although there were significant differences among the responses; and interviewees knew …

Forget about any barbequing. Taiwan is just beginning to recover from one of the worst typhoons in recent memory. Super Typhoon Sinlaku spent the entire weekend over the island, meandering up the east coast, doing a loop-de-loop around Yilan, moving northwest and doing a second loop-de-loop around Danshui, before taking another jaunt to the west and finally traipsing off to the northeast. Mountain areas have been inundated with between 3 AND 5 FEET OF RAIN, resulting in numerous casualties (7 dead and 14 missing so far) and catastrophic damage (bridges washed out, riverside hotels toppled or swept away, crops destroyed, …
