Korea Telecom (KT), a leading IT company in Korea, provides an ASP service called Bizmeka to SMEs. In this study, we identify factors influencing the perceived benefits of Bizmeka usage. We also examine the relationship between the perceived benefits of Bizmeka usage and customer satisfaction. Syllabi

“Communication as Christian Rhetoric provides a context for instruction and practice that introduces the art of written and spoken communication within a clearly articulated Wesleyan theological framework for the purpose of Christian ministry. As a core course within the theological curriculum, its purpose does not simply replicate undergraduate speech and communication studies. Students will be provided with appropriate means for cultivating necessary habits of Christian life and speech in light of the Christian rhetorical tradition, classical rhetoric, and contemporary communication studies in preparation for Christian ministry in a multicultural society. This course is designed to integrate theological and scriptural knowledge, …

A Pluralistic Approach To Oppression And Latino Terra Nullius, Valerie J. Phillips Jan 2008

A Pluralistic Approach To Oppression And Latino Terra Nullius, Valerie J. Phillips

St. Thomas Law Review

This paper contains the substance of a talk that I gave at LatCrit XII in Miami, Florida on Panel C4: Coalition Building, Globally and Locally. It is an outgrowth of my observation of the relative lack of participation by indigenous peoples from the Americas, particularly from the South, within LatCrit itself. It draws on my lived experiences at LatCrit's South-North Exchange on Theory, Culture, and Law in San Juan, Puerto Rico in May of 2005 (SNX 2005) as well as the comments of my hotel roommate, June McCue at the University of British Columbia law school in Canada. The topic …

From Agitation To Institutionalization: The Student Anti-Sweatshop Movement In The New Millennium, Purnima Bose

Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies

This article provides an overview of the student anti-sweatshop movement and argues that the movement has been somewhat successful at changing policies. The primary objectives are twofold: first, to supplement existing literature on the anti-sweatshop movement by offering an account of its emergence and evolution at Indiana University-Bloomington; and second, to describe the Designated Suppliers Program (DSP), a United Students Against Sweatshops (USAS) initiative that proactively seeks to improve conditions for workers producing university-licensed apparel.

"I'Ll Rise": Rememory, Hope And The Creation Of A New Public Sphere In Ben Harper's Music, Delphine Gras

Ethnic Studies Review

Recent studies about resistance music in the United States primarily focus on the hip-hop movement. However, it does not offer the only musical discourse contesting contemporary injustices. Even though the debate about hip-hop is a crucial one that deserves full attention, it seems necessary to widen the current conversation on music to take into account a wider array of musical genres and artists. This will in turn allow us to see the revolutionary power of music in its full force. In the United States, black music, from the Spirituals to Rhythm and Blues, has undeniably been a potent agent for …

In Search Of Female Space : Resistance And Creation In Tsitsi Dangarembga’S Nervous Conditions And She No Longer Weeps, Diana Mckenna

Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects

In this paper I explore how with Nervous Conditions (1988) and She No Longer Weeps (1987), Zimbabwean author Tsitsi Dangarembga creates alternative literary forms in her representation of architectural, bodily and narrative spaces and their relationship to female identities. These physical spaces the women characters inhabit, resist and in which they assert their voices must be cleared of patriarchal control in order for female-centered space to be produced. Moreover, the creation of a new speech paradigm, one that affirms the female voice, is crucial to the journey towards female autonomy. Inasmuch as Dangarembga explores the ways in which physical spaces …

The Politicization Of Everyday Life In Cleave's Weekly Police Gazette (1834-36), Edward Jacobs Jan 2008

The Politicization Of Everyday Life In Cleave's Weekly Police Gazette (1834-36), Edward Jacobs

English Faculty Publications

With circulation as high as 40,000, Cleave's Weekly Police Gazette, published 1834–36, was one of the first and most popular unstamped newspapers to mix political news with coverage of non-political events like sensational crimes, strange occurrences, and excerpts from popular fiction. Scholars have differed widely in their interpretations of the fact that the paper's mixture of radical politics and "entertainment" outsold unstamped papers that offered undiluted political news, such as Hetherington's Poor Man's Guardian (1831–35), whose circulation peaked at around 16,000. Some, like Louis James and Virginia Berridge, argue that Cleave's helped to co-opt legitimate working-class political discourse by …

Image’Nation : The Search For A Folk Image Of Ireland In Art And Popular Culture, 1849 To 1949., Ciarán Walsh

Theses

This study considers how visual images became central to the folk imagination of Irishness between 1849 and 1949. It begins with contrasting representations in photography of the Irish in the 1890s. The political/cultural contexts of images of Irishness is established and developed with reference to the juxtaposition of contemporary visual arts, folk song and nationalism in Kilmainham Gaol in 1991. It considers whether distinct cultural systems have historically competed for legitimacy and whether, specifically, art and tradition are incompatible in terms of a nationalist construction of Irishness. The Irishness of Irish art in the nineteenth century, the role of the …

Social Cohesion And Cultural Expressions: The Case Of The Sacred Textiles In The Armenian Orthodox Churches Of Istanbul, Marlene R. Breu, Ronald T. Marchese

Textile Society of America: Symposium Proceedings

This paper reports on data collected from textiles used in the religious life of members of the Armenian Orthodox Church community of Istanbul, Turkey, specifically consecrated items associated with the expression of the Divine Liturgy.  Our analysis of selected objects and their inscriptions revealed a valuable source of information about the culture and how it expressed itself in one of the key aspects of Armenian identity as a minority population in the Islamic society of Istanbul—its religion.  The production and use of these artifacts contributed to the cohesiveness of a people both in Istanbul and in the Diaspora, where Armenians …

Culture As Unfolding Process: Integrating Perspectives In Building A Theory, Ludmila N. Praslova

Papers from the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology Conferences

Current theory and research in culture and psychology produced multiple definitions and conceptualizations of culture. This paper reviews several approaches to understanding culture and introduces an integrative model of Culture as Unfolding Process (CUP) as a way of integrating insights from several perspectives. The model highlights mechanisms of cultural change and stability, and provides a versatile framework for understanding culture on multiple levels.

Orientalizing Post/Communism: Europe's 'Wild East' In Literature And Film, Nataša Kovačević Jan 2008

Orientalizing Post/Communism: Europe's 'Wild East' In Literature And Film, Nataša Kovačević

Reconstruction: Studies in Contemporary Culture

The essay posits post/communist Eastern Europe as a neocolonial terrain to show how contemporary discursive underpinnings of global capitalism and liberal democracy have been shaped by a combined Orientalist demonization of communist regimes and Eastern European cultures. It analyzes how old Orientalisms surface in the Cold War period, re-articulated in narratives that define a European or civilizational ideal as an essentially liberal-democratic project against the discursive palimpsest of totalitarian, barbarian, and Oriental communists. The establishment of this discourse has helped to justify transitions to market economy and liberal-civic society in post-communism. These developments increasingly provincialize Eastern Europe through suppressing its …
