Dissertations

Problem
This dissertation studies the nature of Jesus’ ascension to heaven and its role in the argument of Hebrews.

Method
The study consists of an analysis of those passages in which Jesus’ ascension is referred to directly (Heb 1:6; 4:14-16; 6:19-20; 9:11-14, 24; 10:19-22) and a study of the imagery Hebrews uses to couch its theology, giving special attention to the role of this imagery in the progression of the argument. The Book Of Daniel In Light Of The Ancient Near Eastern Literary And Material Finds: An Archaeological Perspective, Patrick Mazani

Dissertations

This dissertation examines the text of the book of Daniel in light of some ancient Near Eastern archaeological discoveries. While chapter 1 of this research is introductory, chapter 2 begins by investigating personal and place names mentioned in Daniel and making a comparative analysis between the claims of Daniel's text and related archaeological discoveries. Archaeological evidence shows that the place names mentioned in the book of Daniel were real geographical locations where historical events are claimed to have taken place. Archeological materials not only help clarify some words, phrases, and locations of places, but seem to show that at least …

Bs 503 Introduction To Inductive Bible Study, Bart B. Bruehler

Syllabi

This course offers a concise introduction to inductive Bible study for students enrolled in Master of Arts programs other than those specializing in Bible. The purpose is to introduce students to a systematic and comprehensive approach to Bible study. The course will treat the entire Bible study process from initial observation and interpretation of texts in their literary, historical, and canonical contexts to the contemporary appropriation of these texts. In accord with the principle that students can best understand hermeneutical issues and develop exegetical skills as they engage in rigorous study of specific texts, the course will deal with three …

Inspiration And Inerrancy In Scripture, Ralph Del Colle Jan 2008

Inspiration And Inerrancy In Scripture, Ralph Del Colle

Theology Faculty Research and Publications

Inspiration in Qur'anic revelation is quite different from the Catholic understanding. The incarnational principle through which the human faculties of the inspired writer are active in the very mode of receptivity seems to be understood differently by Muslims. Differences in understanding how the "God who speaks" is known by his creatures can lead to invaluable dialogue and mutual understanding for both of our Abrahamic traditions.

An Adventist Missiological Response To Traditional Beliefs In Kenya, Festus Felix Gumbo Jan 2008

An Adventist Missiological Response To Traditional Beliefs In Kenya, Festus Felix Gumbo

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

Seventh-day Adventist Christians in Kenya struggle to practice pure biblical teaching because many still practice African traditional beliefs. Many traditional beliefs are inconsistent with biblical teachings. This problem has contributed to syncretism that has weakened the Adventist message in Kenya. Many of the church members follow traditional beliefs because they fear to be condemned by members in society. The traditional belief that says a dead person continues to live and can communicate with the family is still strongly supported by many people in Kenya. This traditional belief contradicts biblical teaching concerning the dead. Other traditional issues church members struggle …
