Oral History Interview With Dr. Judith Provost: Professor Of Psychology & Graduate Counseling, Judith Provost, Wenxian Zhang

Oral Histories

Judith Alice Provost came to Rollins College in 1976 as a part-time counselor who focused on preventive programs. Within a year, she became the director of the growing counseling program. She is also an author, researcher, and therapist who prefers group driven sessions.

Provost grew up in the factory region of Connecticut where girls were expected to be a teacher, nurse, or airline stewardess. She was the first member of her family to complete college. Provost earned a B.S. from the University of Connecticut before attending the University of California where she received an M.N. (in psychiatric nursing). At the …

Synthesis And Characterization Of Novel Chiral Conjugated Materials, Andrzej Rajca, Makoto Miyasaka Nov 2007

Synthesis And Characterization Of Novel Chiral Conjugated Materials, Andrzej Rajca, Makoto Miyasaka

Andrzej Rajca Publications

Chirality is increasingly important in the design of organic π-conjugated materials. One of the aspects of the design involves optimization of achiral properties through the introduction of chirality. In this context, the inherent three-dimensional character of chirality and the control of intermolecular interactions associated with diastereomeric recognition provide a versatile handle for the optimization of supramolecular structures, film morphology and liquid crystalline order of π-conjugated polymers and oligomers in three dimensions. These inherently achiral properties have an impact on optoelectronic coupling, which may affect the fabrication of light-emitting diodes, field effect transistors, photodiodes, photovoltaic cells, fluorescent sensors and other devices. …

Interactivity And Health Communication: Content Analysis Of Interactive Elements On Hiv/Aids Awareness And Prevention Websites, Vikas John Nov 2007

Interactivity And Health Communication: Content Analysis Of Interactive Elements On Hiv/Aids Awareness And Prevention Websites, Vikas John

Theses

Individuals increasingly turn to the Internet to satisfy their information needs, including information on health-related issues like HIV/AIDS. Researchers agree that an important characteristic of this medium is interactivity. The concept can be viewed from either a user perspective, focusing on the user’s experience with the medium or a system perspective, analyzing the design of technology. The current study followed the system perspective to analyze the various features on HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention websites. Although all websites were interactive, there was considerable variation in the types of features present. This study attempted to find a relationship, if any, between the …

An Evaluation Of A Student Response System Used At Brigham Young University, Coral Marie Hanson Nov 2007

An Evaluation Of A Student Response System Used At Brigham Young University, Coral Marie Hanson

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this project is two fold: (a) to evaluate the technology (hardware and software) of the student response system (SRS) used at Brigham Young University (BYU) and (b) to evaluate which instructional methods being used with the SRS students' feel are most helpful. In the past, the student response systems supported by BYU have not fully met the needs of professors and problems with the systems have limited professors' uses of the SRS. Ten professors were randomly selected to participate in the evaluation using a stratified random sampling technique. The data collection methods consisted of classroom observations, interviews …

Three-Dimensional Shoaling Of Large-Amplitude Internal Waves, V. Vlasenko, N. Stashchuk Nov 2007

Three-Dimensional Shoaling Of Large-Amplitude Internal Waves, V. Vlasenko, N. Stashchuk

School of Biological and Marine Sciences

The three-dimensional (3-D) shoaling of large-amplitude internal waves (LAIW) is studied in the framework of a fully nonlinear nonhydrostatic numerical model. The vertical fluid stratification, parameters of the propagating waves and bottom topography were taken close to those observed in the northern part of the Andaman Sea. It was found that three-dimensional evolution of LAIWs propagating from the deep part of a basin onto the shelf differs from two-dimensional shoaling in many ways largely because of the process of wave refraction developing in the areas of local bottom elevations or depressions. In the 3-D case the wave refraction produces concave …
