A New Family Of Pr Two Channel Filter Banks, Jian-Ao Lian

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

A new family of multidimensional dimensional (MD) perfect reconstruction (PR) two channel filter banks with finite impulse response (FIR) filters induced from systems of biorthogonal MD scaling functions and wavelets are introduced. One of the advantages of this construction is that the biorthogonal scaling functions and wavelets are easy to establish due to the interpolatory property of the scaling functions to start with. The other advantage is that all filters can be centrosymmetric or bi-linear phase. Examples of two dimensional (2D) bi-linear phase PR twochannel FIR filter banks will be demonstrated.

2005 Coastal Municipal Stormwater Infrastructure Mapping Project, Jeffrey Marcoux

The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES) received funds in 2005 from the New Hampshire Estuaries Project (NHEP) to provide assistance to coastal communities to develop storm sewer infrastructure maps. This final report describes the grant projects completed in Rye and Seabrook.

NHEP chose to fund stormwater infrastructure mapping projects for a number of reasons. Primarily, this grant was established in order to fulfill one of the water quality action plans identified in the NHEP Management Plan. In addition, the Coastal/Piscataqua watershed has been identified by DES as a priority watershed in need of restoration. Updated and comprehensive maps …

Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) light traps were modified for use with light-emitting diodes (LED) and compared against a control trap (incandescent light) to determine the effectiveness of blue, green, and red lights against standard incandescent light routinely used for sand fly surveillance. Light traps were baited with dry ice and rotated through a 4 x 4 Latin square design during May, June, and July, 2006. The flow around suspension bridge decks was traditionally investigated using wind tunnel experiments. Computer modeling, an alternative to wind tunnel testing is now being used to simulate the wind flow around a bridge cross section. This alternative is less expensive and takes less time compared to wind tunnel experiments. The motion of flow around a bridge deck is described by a set of partial differential equations called Navier-Stokes (N-S) equations. Flow features such as velocity, pressure and vorticity are predicted by solving these equations. These flow features are then used to compute flow parameters such as aerodynamic drag, lift and …

School Choice Demonstration Project

On January 23, 2004, President Bush signed the DC School Choice Incentive Act into law. This landmark piece of legislation included $14 million in funding for what would become the DC Opportunity Scholarship Program (OSP). The OSP is the first federally-funded K-12 scholarship program in the country and was designed to provide approximately 1,700 children from low income families with tuition scholarships worth up to $7,500. The scholarships cover the costs of attending nonpublic schools within the District of Columbia that agreed to participate in the Program. Computational Complexity Of Determining Which Statements About Causality Hold In Different Space-Time Models, Vladik Kreinovich, Olga Kosheleva

Causality is one of the most fundamental notions of physics. It is therefore important to be able to decide which statements about causality are correct in different models of space-time. In this paper, we analyze the computational complexity of the corresponding deciding problems. In particular, we show that: for Minkowski space-time, the deciding problem is as difficult as the Tarski's decision problem for elementary geometry, while for a natural model of primordial space-time, the corresponding decision problem is of the lowest possible complexity among all possible spacetime models.

Successful soybean production is greatly affected by variety selection. This publication reports the agronomic performance of entries in the 2007 South Dakota performance trials for conventional non-Roundup Ready™ and Roundup Ready™ soybean varieties. Major factors in variety selection include yield, maturity, lodging resistance, and Phytophthora root rot resistance.

Alternatives To The “Race To The Bottom” In Vietnam: Minimum Wage Strikes And Their Aftermath, Angie Tran

This case study focuses on strategic mediating roles of labor newspapers. Concentrating on minimum wage strikes from 2005 to 2006, it shows the state’s pro-foreign direct investment policy, tensions between state bureaucracies and labor unions, and their debates. It demonstrates alternatives to the “race to the bottom” thesis. The larger implication is that labor organizing and spontaneous collective actions can be successful even within a one-party state. It remains to be seen how the new strike law ratified in 2006 addresses structural weaknesses of the labor unions and the state, and how it affects labor organizing for workers’ rights and …

Can weed distribution maps be developed from remote sensed reflectance data? When are the appropriate times to collect these data during the season? What wavebands can be used to distinguish weedy from weed- free areas? This research examined if and when reflectance could be used to distinguish between weed-free and weed-infested (mixed species) areas in soybean and to determine the most useful wavebands to separate crop, weed, and soil reflectance differences. Treatments in the two-year study included no vegetation (bare soil), weed-free soybean, and weed-infested soybean and, in one year, 80% corn residue cover. Background: Type 2 diabetes disproportionately affects Aboriginal peoples in Canada. Ample evidence shows that regular physical activity (PA) plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes. Evidence is beginning to emerge linking PA to the physical environment but little is known about the relationship between remote rural environments and PA involvement in Aboriginal peoples. This study’s purpose was to investigate the relationship between perceptions of the environment and PA and walking patterns in Aboriginal adults in order to inform the planning and implementation of community-relevant PA interventions.

FAMILY AFFAIRS was a free, twice-a-month, social activities newsletter for the GLBTQI (gay/lesbian/bisexual/trans/queer/intersex) community, sent out around the 1st and 15th of each month. It covered the State of Maine only. The list was begun and maintained for many years by Jean Vermette in Bangor, and later operated by Zack Paakkonen of Portland. Over the years it evolved from a social activities newsletter into a business directory, classified ad service, and community bulletin board.

China's Good Earth: From Urbanization To Rural Development Under Hu Jintao 'S Administration, Jessica Wade

This paper analyzes the recent efforts of the Chinese government to facilitate rural development. It reviews the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s previous emphasis on urban-based growth, the history behind the shift towards rural development, and the attempts by President Hu Jintao to move from extensive urban development towards sustainable rural development. It asserts, first, that much of China’s urban-based development was intentionally encouraged by the government, and second, that the CCP is now deliberately moving its investment and focus to rural-based growth. The objective of this project is to determine if mission trips contribute to the spiritual growth of its participants. I will attend and participate in a 7 day mission trip with a team in rural Honduras with the Diocese of Fort Worth. The goal of this mission trip is to give medical and dental care and distribute the necessary medications to the people.
