En este artículo el autor se plantea la necesidad de avanzar en los estudios teatrales hacia un paradigma crítico que responda a cuestiones fundamentales partiendo de posiciones propias, aunque ligadas a las últimas posiciones de Lucien Goldmann en sus publicaciones póstumas. Para ello, se centra en el Teatro como expresión espectacular del YO (del autor, del director, del actor, etc.) en el mundo contemporáneo y lo pone en relación con las teorías socio-políticas de Karl Popper y los recientes descubrimientos de la neurociencia, especialmente de la neurobiología de Elkonon Goldberg.

Experiences Of Assessment Using Multiple Choice Questions On A First Year Engineering Module In Electrical Engineering, Aidan O'Dwyer

This contribution will report on, and evaluate, the use of multiple-choice questions, in both continuous assessment and terminal examination modes, on a first year module in electrical engineering at Dublin Institute of Technology. The author’s experiences are that multiple-choice questions tend to be student friendly (e.g. given a choice in a terminal examination, students will opt to attempt the questions with multiple choice parts). The author has used the assessment method over three academic years, and some assessment data is reported and analysed in the contribution. The pedagogical approach is explicitly pragmatic.

The Section of Fine Arts’ Art-in-Architecture program created public and permanent cultural artifacts that expressed and recorded American beliefs, values, and stories for future generations. Many of these artworks have been saved. Sadly, others have been neglected, mistreated, or forgotten. This project focuses on The Section’s post office art installations in Michigan. The Section of Fine Arts, one of FDR’s New Deal programs of the Depression era, operated under the auspices of the Treasury Department. Samuel Beckett’s play Waiting for Godot is commonly interpreted within the context of the Theater of the Absurd, existentialist literature, or Christian allegory. This thesis recognizes the validity of all such readings while attempting to merge these seemingly contradictory perspectives. By reading the play within the context of Christian Existentialism, new insights are uncovered as to what the play may be saying about the existential dilemma. Søren Kierkegaard, often called the Father of Existentialism, authored multiple works that influenced modern existentialist writers such as Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus. Kierkegaard’s writings, however, were Christian in nature rather than atheistic. By …

The plays of Elmer Rice, however, should be discussed by those interested in our legal system. Rice, although now largely forgotten, was a leading playwright of the last century. In this study of The Central Garden at the J. Paul Getty Center was found evidence that the Central Garden designed by Robert Irwin is a postmodern garden. Beginning with an evaluation and description of the individual elements and conditions of the garden, the study then explores the larger body of artistic work produced by Irwin. This investigation also extrapolates how the ideas of modernism and postmodernism have been applied to past works of landscape architecture. The areas of St. Charles Avenue, Bourbon Street, the Warehouse District, Oak Street, the Lower Ninth Ward, Lakeview, Magazine Street, and Canal Street have very distinctly different styles of typography found on signage, store, windows, etc. Each area's function dictates what the letterforms found in that vicinity look like. As geographers continue to research the interactions between physical landscapes and conceived or represented landscapes, the Virgin of Guadalupe pilgrimage site, a prominent site for Latin American Catholicism, provided an opportunity for further study in this area. Mexico City’s rapid expansion drastically changed the material landscape from rural to densely urban, especially since the early 1900s. With indigenous spirituality closely tied to the physical aspects of the landscape, especially those more related to the natural and rural elements, the onset of urbanity can potentially lead to alienation and consequently a decrease in pilgrimages and participation in worship at the site. …

The Civil War in the United States was the deadliest conflict faced by Americans during the nineteenth century. The resulting numbers of dead bodies called for a change in both cemetery planning and traditional cemetery use. The Union created what became the National Cemetery System, consisting of standardized, nearly identical cemeteries created throughout the South both during and immediately after the war. This system, controlled by the federal government, sought to honor the loyalty of the Union dead while simultaneously dishonoring the Confederate dead, who could not be buried in national cemeteries. The Urban Professional Development School (PDS) Network represents a group of professional educators from a large, urban university and six public and private schools in the same metropolitan area committed to providing progressive models of professional development for teachers across the lifespan. This paper demonstrates how participants in this initiative have used existing research literature and their initial research to inform their PDS work and create a sustainable and informative research agenda that can inform the work of all PDS participants.

In order to provide context for the Custer Battles court's opinion, Part II of this Note generally describes the FCA and the policies behind its qui tam provision, discusses policy rationales behind the use of private security contractors by the U.S. government, and highlights how security contractors like Custer Battles fit into that picture within the reality of present-day Iraq. Part III examines the reasoning of the Custer Battles court, and Part IV critiques that reasoning and the application of precedent in this case.
