The Relationship Between Parent Identified Sleep Problems, Internalizing Behaviors, Externalizing Behaviors, And Adaptive Functioning In A Pediatric Population, Kyle Marissa Popkave May 2007

The Relationship Between Parent Identified Sleep Problems, Internalizing Behaviors, Externalizing Behaviors, And Adaptive Functioning In A Pediatric Population, Kyle Marissa Popkave

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Pediatric sleep problems are among the most common pediatric health issues faced by families today. Sleep problems can have a deleterious impact on children's academics, behaviors, social-emotional development, health, and/or safety. Once sleep problems are identified and treated, many of the associated negative impacts can be ameliorated. The purpose of the current study was to examine prevalence rates of symptoms of sleep disorders in young children, and the relationship between these symptoms and various behavior problems. One hundred and four children, ages 2 to 5 years, attending a pediatric health clinic served as the participants in this study. Data on …

Depleted Carbon Monoxide In Fragment C Of The Jupiter-Family Comet 73p/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3, M. Disanti, W. Anderson, G. Villanueva, B. Bonev, K. Magee-Sauer, E. Gibb, M. Mumma May 2007

Depleted Carbon Monoxide In Fragment C Of The Jupiter-Family Comet 73p/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3, M. Disanti, W. Anderson, G. Villanueva, B. Bonev, K. Magee-Sauer, E. Gibb, M. Mumma

Physics Faculty Works

Carbon monoxide emission was targeted in fragment C of the recently split Jupiter-family comet 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 during its 2006 apparition, using the Cryogenic Echelle Spectrograph (CSHELL) at the NASA IRTF on Mauna Kea, Hawaii. Simultaneous sounding with H2O near 4.65 μm revealed highly depleted CO, consistent with a mixing ratio of 0.5% ± 0.13%. Along with depleted CH3OH but nearly normal HCN, this may indicate that this comet formed in the inner giant planets' region or, alternatively, that it formed relatively late, after significant clearing of the protosolar nebula.

Antagonisitics Effects Of Selected Essential Oils On The Growth Of Microorganisms Collected From Different Surfaces, Torrye Denise Hooper May 2007

Antagonisitics Effects Of Selected Essential Oils On The Growth Of Microorganisms Collected From Different Surfaces, Torrye Denise Hooper

Theses (Pre-2016)

Several fungi and bacteria were collected from different surface areas such as exterior of buildings, bark of trees, door hedges, floors, windows, soil and water pipes. The microorganisms were then isolated in pure cultures; light microscope (LM), stereomicroscope (SM), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used to identify four gram-positive and four gram negative bacteria. Fungi Aspergillus flavus, Rhizopus sp., Geotrichium sp, Fusarium sp., Periconia sp., Aspergillus niger, Trichoderma, Penicillium sp., and Botrytis sp., were also identified using the different microscopes. The antifungal activity of the essential oils of selected seeds in the Apiaceae family was evaluated using the diffusion …

Characterization Of Synthetic Dna Bar Codes In Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Gene-Deletion Strains, Kevin Pierre Anthony May 2007

Characterization Of Synthetic Dna Bar Codes In Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Gene-Deletion Strains, Kevin Pierre Anthony

Theses (Pre-2016)

Incorporation of strain-specific synthetic DNA tags into yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae gene-deletion strains has enabled identification of gene functions by massively parallel growth rate analysis. However, it is important to confirm the sequences of these tags, because mutations introduced during construction could lead to significant errors in hybridization performance. To validate this experimental system, we . sequenced 11,812 synthetic 20-mer molecular bar codes and adjacent sequences (>1.8 megabases synthetic DNA) by pyrosequencing and Sanger methods. At least 31% ofthe genome-integrated 20-mer tags contain differences from those originally synthesized. However, these mutations result in anomalous hybridization in only a small subset …

Sea Surface Pco2‐Sst Relationships Across A Cold‐Core Cyclonic Eddy: Implications For Understanding Regional Variability And Air‐Sea Gas Exchange, Feizhou Chen, Wei‐Jun Cai, Claudia R. Benitez-Nelson, Yongchen Wang May 2007

Sea Surface Pco2‐Sst Relationships Across A Cold‐Core Cyclonic Eddy: Implications For Understanding Regional Variability And Air‐Sea Gas Exchange, Feizhou Chen, Wei‐Jun Cai, Claudia R. Benitez-Nelson, Yongchen Wang

Faculty Publications

[1] This study is designed to improve the understanding of how biologically productive, cold‐core cyclonic eddies affect sea surface pCO2 in the lee of the main Hawaiian Islands in the subtropical North Pacific Gyre. We identified three unique relationships between pCO2 and sea surface temperature (SST). A positive correlation between pCO2 and SST was observed in the waters surrounding the eddy suggesting surface CO2 is controlled primarily by thermodynamics. In contrast, a negative relationship was observed within the eddy core as a result of the upwelling of CO2‐enriched subsurface waters. A third relationship existed throughout the rest …

Variability In The Bulk Composition And Abundance Of Dissolved Organic Matter In The Lower Mississippi And Pearl Rivers, Shuiwang Duan, Thomas S. Bianchi, Alan M. Shiller, Karl Dria, Patrick G. Hatcher, Kevin R. Carman

Faculty Publications

[1] In this study, we examined the temporal and spatial variability of dissolved organic matter (DOM) abundance and composition in the lower Mississippi and Pearl rivers and effects of human and natural influences. In particular, we looked at bulk C/N ratio, stable isotopes (delta N-15 and delta C-13) and C-13 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometry of high molecular weight (HMW; 0.2 mu m to 1 kDa) DOM. Monthly water samples were collected at one station in each river from August 2001 to 2003. Surveys of spatial variability of total dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and nitrogen ( DON) were also conducted …

Ucf Recommissioning Project Final Report, Florida Solar Energy Center, James Cummings

FSEC Energy Research Center®

A research project was carried out to examine the energy savings which occurred from recommissioning three University of Central Florida buildings. Recommissioning activities completed in two of the three buildings yielded chilled water and whole building electricity savings on the order of 15% to 30%. Recommissioning implementation is pending in the third building, where savings are projected to be in the range of 40% to 50% of total building energy use. Additionally, cooling energy savings were monitored (and calculated) for a green roof installation at one of these three buildings. Calculated savings were found to be 1.05 kWh/day for a …

A Hierarchical Analysis Of Habitat Selection By Raccoons In Northern Indiana, James C. Beasley, Travis L. Devault, Monica I. Retamosa, Olin E. Rhodes Jr.

United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services: Staff Publications

Although numerous studies have examined habitat use by raccoons (Procyon lotor), information regarding seasonal habitat selection related to resource availability in agricultural landscapes is lacking for this species. Additionally, few studies using radiotelemetry have investigated habitat selection at multiple spatial scales or core-use areas by raccoons. We examined seasonal habitat selection of 55 (31 M, 24 F) adult raccoons at 3 hierarchical orders defined by the movement behavior of this species (second-order home range, second-order core-use area, and third-order home range) in northern Indiana, USA, from May 2003 to June 2005. Using compositional analysis, we assessed whether habitat …
