Cell-semiconductor hybrid systems are a potential centerpiece in the scenery of biotechnological applications. The selection and study of promising crystalline semiconductor materials for bio-sensing applications is at the basis of the development of such hybrid systems. In this work we introduce crystalline SiC as an extremely appealing material for bio-applications. For the first time we report biocompatibility studies of different SiC polytypes whose results document the biocompatibility of this material and its capability of directly interfacing cells without the need of surface functionalization. Background: We conducted an observational study to determine the delay in presentation to hospital, and its associates among patients experiencing first Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) in Karachi, Pakistan.Methods: A hospital based cross-sectional study was conducted at National Institute of Cardiovascular Disease (NICVD) in Karachi. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data. The primary outcome was delay in presentation, defined as a time interval of six or more hours from the onset of symptoms to presentation to hospital. Logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the factors associated with prehospital delay.Results: A total of 720 subjects were interviewed; 22% were …

In the atomistic simulation of electronic structures (e.g. quantum dots, Fig. 1), it is imperative to take advantage of the most efficient parallel numerical algorithms. In order to determine the energy levels and corresponding wave functions of interest, we need to find few of the interior eigenvalues of a large sparse standard Hermitian eigenvalue problem. Several algorithms have been devised for such problems, including (P)ARPACK [1], (Block) Lanczos [2] and Tracemin [3]. In this paper, the tradeoffs of these algorithms for the solution of eigenvalue problems arising in Nanoelectronic Modeling tool NEMO-3D [4], [5] will be discussed. The effectiveness of …

On the Green is an internal publication of Gallaudet College, which later became Gallaudet University.
