The Effects Of Being A Mentor On High School Students' Self-Efficacy And Communication Skills Development, Annemarie Wagner-Fehn

Theses and Dissertations

The outcome of mentoring programs on the child being mentored has been widely researched in recent years. However, little empirical research has been conducted to determine the effects that these relationships have on the person doing the mentoring. The purpose of this research was to investigate if becoming an adolescent mentor would (a) positively affect high school students' feelings of self-efficacy and (b) affect their communication skills development. Thirteen high school students from Big Brothers Big Sisters School Based Mentoring Program participated in this study. A t-test for paired samples revealed no significant differences between the pre and post …

Influences Of Mothers And Dual-Career Families On The Educational Attainment Of Female College Students, Mansi Patel

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to understand if mothers have an influence on their daughters by (a) determining if a relationship existed between the educational attainment of mothers and the level of education female college students strive to achieve and (b) verifying if female college students are more likely to come from households with working mothers and dual-career families. A sample of 50 predominantly Caucasian female college students at Rowan University were surveyed on their personal and family background. Location Advantages And Subsidiaries’ R&D Activities In Emerging Economies: Exploring The Effect Of Employee Mobility, Qin Yang, Crystal X. Jiang May 2007

Location Advantages And Subsidiaries’ R&D Activities In Emerging Economies: Exploring The Effect Of Employee Mobility, Qin Yang, Crystal X. Jiang

Management Department Faculty Journal Articles

With multinational corporations increasingly seeking subsidiaries’ specific advantages in foreign countries to develop their innovative capabilities, internationalization of research and development has been greatly emphasized. However, in emerging economies, managers are encountering the challenge of high employee mobility under the weak intellectual property protection regime. This article investigates subsidiaries’ employee mobility and proposes that it negatively moderates the relationship between location advantages and the level of subsidiaries’ R&D. This article extends R&D internationalization and enhances current understanding of subsidiaries’ R&D activities. Further, it provides managerial implications as to how managers can improve R&D outcome by mitigating obstacles in emerging economies.

The purpose of the following study was to determine whether there is a significant relationship between intrinsic and extrinsic religiosity and the presence of and search for meaning in one's life. Searching For Community Online: How Virtual Spaces Affect Student Notions Of Community, Emma S. Spiro

Pomona Senior Theses

Social networking sites and virtual spaces have flourished in the past few years. The author explores the impact of such social networking services on the local community at a small liberal arts college. The author investigates modern trends in community theory. Defining community has become more difficult in modern society, where community is no longer easily distinguished by geographical boundaries. From the background of modern community theory the author explores the designation of virtual spaces as “virtual communities.” Literature and research about virtual spaces indicates that they can provide many of the values thought be to inherent to community membership. …

A Mexicano's American Dream/El Sueno Americano De Un Mexicano, Gil Villagran

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

As I marched on May Day with thousands of others in support of a humane reform of our nation’s immigration laws, I thought about the vast diversity of all who marched from East San Jose to our new downtown city hall.  Though most marchers were Latinos, there were also people of European ancestry, Muslims, Asians, Pacific Islanders,  and African-Americans.  The languages I recognized were Spanish, Arabic, Farsi, Russian, Chinese, Vietnamese, and some that I could not guess.  There were families with babies in strollers, toddlers carried on parents’ arms, teens with I-pods, young men and women, workers with union signs, …

A total of 137 students participated in this study. Data was collected using a LOC survey and a SASH-Y survey. An Anova-One Way and a Two-Way Anova were used to determine the relationship of these variables. The results demonstrated a connection …

Good Fences And Good Neighbors? Biblical Scholars And Theologians, Jean-Pierre Ruiz May 2007

Good Fences And Good Neighbors? Biblical Scholars And Theologians, Jean-Pierre Ruiz

Journal of Hispanic / Latino Theology

The author takes occasion of the decision by the American Academic of Religion to separate its annual meetings from those of the Society for Biblical Literature, to reflect on the challenging disciplinary frontier arrayed between systematic theology and biblical studies. In particular, he calls for critical theological interpretation of the claims of biblical scholarship, bearing in mind the contextuality of all discourses. For their part, biblical scholars should call systematic theologians to operate within the framework of what Fernando Segovia has called a hermeneutics of otherness and engagement, as a preface to reading with exegetes and other academic, pastoral, professional …
