Volumetric Visualization Of Nexrad Level Ii Doppler Weather Data From Multiple Sites, Yi Ru
Volumetric Visualization Of Nexrad Level Ii Doppler Weather Data From Multiple Sites, Yi Ru
Purdue Polytechnic Masters Theses
Weather visualization is critical for operational forecasters and weather researchers to analyze, monitor, and predict severe weather events such as storms, tornadoes, and hurricanes. Usually measured weather datasets such as NEXRAD Level II radar data contain some errors and have temporal aliasing issues, so that the raw data cannot represent the true meteorological patterns. Existing weather visualization packages usually ignore these problems, thus they fail to unveil some detailed information and cannot meet the needs of professional meteorologists. Most displays generated by those packages are limited to 2D images, 3D point clouds, or iso-surfaces. Those displays are not able to …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Digital libraries and Digitisation play an important role in preserving and disseminating knowledge in art and culture, education, science and technology, literature and humanities, media and entertainment, cultural heritage, and history. In India, a substantial number of libraries and information centres have initiated digital library activities. Indian society has created and preserved the resources of traditional and cultural heritage in various forms; however, thousands of ancient books and manuscriptsl remain in perishable palm leaves and urgently need digitization. This article describes some of the digital libraries and institutional repositories of India.

A Comparison And Contrast Of The History Of Christianity As It Developed In Cappadocia And Armenia During The First Five Centuries Ad, Judy Henzel
All Theses
The purpose of this thesis is to examine key political, cultural or environmental factors which affected the rise and development of Christianity in two specific regions of eastern Anatolia during the first to fifth centuries AD. Hagiography and chronicle often portray the progress of Christianity as deterministic and providential. However, unique cultural and political elements proved very influential in shaping the success and forms of Christianity in Cappadocia and Armenia, particularly in the fourth and fifth centuries AD.

Modeling And Analysis Of Resolve And Morale For The `Long War', Michael J. Artelli
Modeling And Analysis Of Resolve And Morale For The `Long War', Michael J. Artelli
Theses and Dissertations
In The Art of War, Sun Tzu begins by stating: "War is a matter of vital importance to the State; the province of life or death; the road to survival or ruin. It is mandatory that it be thoroughly studied." Sun Tzu follow's this opening by stating five fundamental factors a commander must master to be successful in combat. The first of these factors is moral influence which Sun Tzu defines as "that which causes the people to be in harmony with their leaders, so they will accompany them in life and death without fear of mortal peril." In the …

Mandatory Rules In Contract Law, Attila Menyhárd, Károly Mike, Ákos Szalai
Mandatory Rules In Contract Law, Attila Menyhárd, Károly Mike, Ákos Szalai
German Working Papers in Law and Economics
Microeconomics and the economic analysis of criminal law have long argued that the prohibition of a certain activity does not eliminate it completely. Both disciplines treat prohibition as an institutional feature that raises the costs of the targeted activity. Our model attempts to incorporate the insight of microeconomics and the economic analysis of criminal law into the standard model of contract law. Contracts differ from criminal acts in one significant respect, however. Unlike the victim of a crime, the potential plaintiff is also interested ex ante in the realisation of the other party’s forbidden activity. This is not necessarily the …

A Stochastic Multiple Players Multi-Issues Bargaining Model For The Piave River Basin, Alessandra Sgobbi, Carlo Carraro
A Stochastic Multiple Players Multi-Issues Bargaining Model For The Piave River Basin, Alessandra Sgobbi, Carlo Carraro
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
The objective of this paper is to investigate the usefulness of non-cooperative bargaining theory for the analysis of negotiations on water allocation and management. We explore the impacts of different economic incentives, a stochastic environment and varying individual preferences on players’ strategies and equilibrium outcomes through numerical simulations of a multilateral, multiple issues, non-cooperative bargaining model of water allocation in the Piave River Basin, in the North East of Italy. Players negotiate in an alternating-offer manner over the sharing of water resources (quantity and quality). Exogenous uncertainty over the size of the negotiated amount of water is introduced to capture …

Production Offshoring And The Skill Composition Of Italian Manufacturing Firms: A Counterfactual Analysis, Roberto Antonietti, Davide Antonioli
Production Offshoring And The Skill Composition Of Italian Manufacturing Firms: A Counterfactual Analysis, Roberto Antonietti, Davide Antonioli
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
This work explores the effects of cross-border relocation of production on the skill composition of Italian manufacturing firms. Its aim is to assess if the firms’ strategy to offshore production activities towards cheap labor countries determines a bias in the relative employment of skilled versus unskilled workers. Using a balanced panel of firm-based data across the period 1995-2003, we test this skill-bias hypothesis by means of a counterfactual experiment in which we employ a difference-in-differences propensity score matching estimator in order to control for selectivity bias without relying on a specific functional form of the relations of interest. In line …
Technology Spillovers And Stability Of International Climate Coalitions, Miyuki Nagashima, Rob Dellink
Technology Spillovers And Stability Of International Climate Coalitions, Miyuki Nagashima, Rob Dellink
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
Cooperation in international environmental agreements appears difficult to attain because of strong free-riding incentives. This paper explores how different technology spillover mechanisms among regions can influence the incentive structures to join and stabilise an international agreement. We use an applied modelling framework (STACO) that enables us to investigate stability of partial climate coalitions. Technology spillovers to coalition members increase their incentives to stay in the coalition and reduce abatement costs, which leads to larger global payoffs and a lower global CO2 stock. Several theories on the impact of technology spillovers are evaluated by simulating a range of alternative specifications. We …
Uncertainty And The Double Dividend Hypothesis, Eftichios Sophocles Sartzetakis, Panagiotis D. Tsigaris
Uncertainty And The Double Dividend Hypothesis, Eftichios Sophocles Sartzetakis, Panagiotis D. Tsigaris
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
This paper examines the double dividend hypothesis in the presence of labour income uncertainty. Empirical evidence shows that uncertainty over labour income is particularly significant in developing, while not negligible in developed countries. Under uncertainty, and assuming incomplete capital markets, the tax system plays a role in providing social insurance and a green tax reform influences its effectiveness. We show that the increase in environmental tax reduces consumption risk while the balanced budget decrease in labour income tax increases income risk. We find that the total welfare effect of a green tax reform differs substantially from the case of certainty. …
The Computational Difficulty Of Bribery In Qualitative Coalitional Games, Andrew J. Dowell, Michael Wooldridge, Peter Mcburney
The Computational Difficulty Of Bribery In Qualitative Coalitional Games, Andrew J. Dowell, Michael Wooldridge, Peter Mcburney
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
Qualitative coalitional games (QCG) are representations of coalitional games in which self interested agents, each with their own individual goals, group together in order to achieve a set of goals which satisfy all the agents within that group. In such a representation, it is the strategy of the agents to find the best coalition to join. Previous work into QCGs has investigated the computational complexity of determining which is the best coalition to join. We plan to expand on this work by investigating the computational complexity of computing agent power in QCGs as well as by showing that insincere strategies, …
