Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering Off The Neutron, M. Mazouz, Timothy Holmstrom, Jefferson Lab Hall A Collaboration Dec 2007

Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering Off The Neutron, M. Mazouz, Timothy Holmstrom, Jefferson Lab Hall A Collaboration

Chemistry & Physics Faculty Publications

The present experiment exploits the interference between the deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) and the Bethe-Heitler processes to extract the imaginary part of DVCS amplitudes on the neutron and on the deuteron from the helicity-dependent D(e⃗,e′γ)X cross section measured at Q2=1.9  GeV2 and xB=0.36. We extract a linear combination of generalized parton distributions (GPDs) particularly sensitive to Eq, the least constrained GPD. A model dependent constraint on the contribution of the up and down quarks to the nucleon spin is deduced.

Assuring Quality Of Higher Education Through Internal Audit: A Case Study On University Of Malaya, Ramli Rosli, Abdul Halim Suzeini, Mohd Nor Siti Nurani Mohd Nor, Mahjuddin Ressang Asrul

Research Publications (2006 to 2010)

Audit, a crucial process in any Quality Management System (QMS) is popularly defined as a systematic, independent and documented practice for obtaining and evaluating evidence objectively to determine the extent to which audit criteria (conformance and effectiveness) are fulfilled. In an institution of higher learning, the audit process is used to ensure that performance and effectiveness of the management of academic department activities and other supporting processes are in line with quality standards set by the institution. University of Malaya (UM) became the first public university in Malaysia to implement a QMS across all departments and faculties within the institution …

The Firm Size, Farm Size, And Transaction Costs: The Case Of Hazelnut Farms In Turkey, Ibrahim Demir Dec 2007

The Firm Size, Farm Size, And Transaction Costs: The Case Of Hazelnut Farms In Turkey, Ibrahim Demir

All Dissertations

ABSTRACT This study analyzes the determinants of the size of the hazelnut farms in Turkey within the framework of the theory of firm and transaction costs. This study argues that, for a farm production function, land is a complex input with many transaction cost-increasing interactions with nature. Natural effects, such as land slope and variation in the weather conditions, can increase transaction costs. Transaction costs are the costs of using the inputs necessary for production. This study utilizes two separate data sets in order to test if the predicted relationship between transaction costs and farm size holds. The first data …

Yearbooks As A Genre: A Case Study, Melissa Caudill Dec 2007

Yearbooks As A Genre: A Case Study, Melissa Caudill

All Theses

ABSTRACT
In the United States, high school and college yearbooks are extraordinarily well known as a genre, yet they are largely unstudied. Yearbooks preserve images, stories, and facts from each year for one specific group of people, linked by age and geographic community. Yearbook production is a significant commercial enterprise, yet it involves novice writers, editors, and designers. Blending elements of craft, tradition, business, and media, yearbooks as a distinctive genre bear closer rhetorical study and application of professional communication theories.
This historical case study of production practices for a particular college yearbook positions yearbooks rhetorically as texts and sites …

Revisioning History: A Rhetorical Redesign Of The Charleston Museum, Brittany Minors

All Theses

The Charleston Museum has the distinction of being the oldest museum in the United States, founded in 1773 and still operating today. It was begun as a branch of the Charleston Library Society and soon grew to be a significant institution in Southern and American scientific discovery and research. Over the 225 years of its existence, it has amassed an impressive collection of natural history specimens, as well as rare artifacts of Lowcountry history and culture. Unfortunately, the exhibits have been neglected since their most recent installment (roughly 20 years ago) and are in need of visual and ideological revision. …

Lmx Theory Related To Administrator And Educator Perceptions, Theodore Mauro

Retaining qualified special educators has been a persistent challenge for school districts nationwide. Given that research findings have identified the presence of a supportive principal as a vital factor in the retention of special educators, it is imperative that this pressing issue be further examined. The purpose of this study was to examine differences in the perceptions of principals (ADM), general educators (GET), and special educators (SET) across nine schools in a South Carolina school district regarding what constitutes a supportive and collaborative school environment. Specifically, (a) do administrators, educators and special educators have different perceptions of the collaborative nature …

Development Of Fullerene Based Sturctures For Photovoltaic And Electronic Applications, Amit Palkar Dec 2007

Development Of Fullerene Based Sturctures For Photovoltaic And Electronic Applications, Amit Palkar

All Dissertations

Solar energy can be envisioned as a long term alternative to rapidly depleting fossil fuels. The energy from the sun can be harnessed by constructing donor-acceptor (D-A) type devices where the incident photon induces the transfer of an electron from the donor to the acceptor. If recombination is prevented, this electron can then be channeled through an external circuit, thus leading to the generation of photocurrent. Porphyrins, which are the naturally occurring pigments in photosynthesis, have been widely established as donors while fullerenes, such as C60 and C70 , due to their unique electron accepting properties, have been …

The deminer was investigating the signal and excavating by sitting/squatting position and his prodder/bayonet detonated the PMN mine. The evidence on site shows that the excavation of the signal started from the first mark, and not 30cm back from the indication. The bayonet directly touched the mine causing a detonation. This indicates he was not conducting operations with the correct procedure.

The Role Of Inspiration In Scientific Scholarship And Discovery: Views Of Theistic Scientists, Kari Ann O'Grady

Theses and Dissertations

This qualitative research study examined the ways those who identify themselves as theistic scientists and scholars experience inspiration, as defined as divine guidance or influence, in their scientific scholarship and discovery. Open-ended surveys of 450 participants from the behavioral and natural sciences and from a variety of religious backgrounds were analyzed for content themes in the areas of experiences with inspiration, preparing to receive inspiration, and further thoughts on inspiration in science. The themes extracted indicated that these scientists and …
