H-Sip Inter-Domain Sip Mobility: Design, Chaouki T. Abdallah, Joud S. Khoury, Henry N. Jerez

Electrical & Computer Engineering Faculty Publications

Supporting mobility in IP networks is a crucial step towards satisfying the nomadic communication paradigms on the current Internet. The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) presents one approach towards supporting IP mobility and is increasingly gaining in popularity as the next generation multimedia signaling and session establishment protocol. In this paper, we explore the design of an efficient approach to inter-domain SIP mobility in an attempt to improve personal and terminal mobility schemes. We apply a persistent identification framework to application level SIP addressing by introducing a level of indirection on top of the traditional SIP architecture. We show how this …

Innovation And National Economic Strategy, Andres C. Salazar Jan 2007

Innovation And National Economic Strategy, Andres C. Salazar

Electrical & Computer Engineering Faculty Publications

In the formulation of a national economic policy today the need to compete in a global knowledge economy has been recognized. The importance of the knowledge services sector now rivals that of materials and products and their associated processing, manufacturing and distribution sub-sectors. A policy component common to both knowledge services and businesses handling tangible assets is a country’s investment and support for innovation as part of a national science and technology (S &T) strategy. Innovation can play a major role in creating new business opportunities, in retaining and perhaps expanding current business dominance, and in transitioning a country’s assets …

Soil Fertility And Productivity Relationships In Rice Production System, Bangladesh, S Rahman, Rj Parkinson

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences

This paper presents an econometric analysis of the influence of soil fertility status on productivity and resource use in rice production utilizing survey data from 21 villages in three agro-ecological regions of Bangladesh. Detailed crop husbandry input-output data were collected from 380 paddy rice (Oryza sativa) farmers. Data collected included fertilizer, pesticide, labour, animal power services, irrigation, farm capital assets and rice yield. The soil fertility status in each region was determined by analysis of soil organic carbon, available nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium concentration. Analysis was based on a profit function, where the selected soil fertility parameters were incorporated as …

Ambiguous Women: Debates Within American Evangelical Feminism, A Syska Jan 2007

Ambiguous Women: Debates Within American Evangelical Feminism, A Syska

School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences

This article is an analysis of major debates within American evangelical feminism since its emergence in early 1970s. It examines ways in which American evangelical feminists negotiate their identity in the daily struggle between the mundane and the sacred, home setting and church practice, and their private and public lives. Through presentation of personal stories and lived experiences it argues that evangelical feminists' ambiguity is a significant and powerful force that not only forges distinctive self-awareness among evangelical feminists, but also shapes diverse understandings of evangelical feminism and shifts the boundaries of both evangelicalism and feminism in America.

Enhancing Diversity In An Appointive System Of Selecting Judges, Leo M. Romero Jan 2007

Enhancing Diversity In An Appointive System Of Selecting Judges, Leo M. Romero

Faculty Scholarship

Any system for selecting judges must be legitimate, and it will not be perceived as legitimate if it excludes certain members of the bar or if it makes it difficult for different groups to get its members on the bench. For an appointive system1 to be perceived as legitimate, it must ensure that diversity is considered in nominating candidates and in appointing judges. This Article will examine the different measures that states, with a particular focus on New Mexico, have adopted in order to enhance diversity in their appointive systems and then propose ways to structure an appointive system that …

Unpacking Pandora's Box: Innovative Techniques For Effectively Counseling Asylum Applicants Suffering From Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Carol M. Suzuki Jan 2007

Unpacking Pandora's Box: Innovative Techniques For Effectively Counseling Asylum Applicants Suffering From Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Carol M. Suzuki

Faculty Scholarship

Many asylum seekers are denied relief in the United States because the asylum officer or immigration judge evaluating the case does not believe the asylum applicant is telling the truth. The applicant may appear not to be credible because his story of persecution lacks sufficient detail and is inconsistent. A victim of severe and often prolonged trauma may develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which profoundly affects his ability to tell a consistent and detailed story of past persecution. Thus, an asylum seeker suffering from PTSD as a result of traumatic experiences, desperately in need of a safe haven, may be …

Form 5 Llc: A Modest Proposal For A Limited Liability Company Agreement Based On Form 5, Alex Ritchie, James F. Cress, Paul Smith

Faculty Scholarship

Long before there were limited liability companies, there were mining joint ventures. Although LLCs have generally become the dominant choice for the formation of privately held entities, the common law joint venture stubbornly persists as the preferred investment vehicle for mining companies. To add to the suite of Form 5 mining joint venture forms previously published by the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation, this article proposes yet another version of Form 5, dubbed the Modest Form, with the hope that a new LLC form project would be launched by the Foundation and thereby become more manageable. The Modest Form is …

Manifest Destiny's Legacy: Race In America At The Turn Of The Twentieth Century, Laura Gomez Jan 2007

Manifest Destiny's Legacy: Race In America At The Turn Of The Twentieth Century, Laura Gomez

Faculty Book Display Case

In Manifest Destinies, Laura E. Gomez explores the central paradox of Mexican American racial status as entailing the law's designation of Mexican Americans as white and their simultaneous social position as non-white in American society. She tells a neglected story of conflict, conquest, cooperation, and competition among Mexicans, Indians, and Euro-Americans, the regions three main populations who were the key architects and victims of the laws that dictated what ones race was and how people would be treated by the law according to ones race.

Felix Cohen, Anti-Semitism And American Indian Law. Book Review Of Architect Of Justice: Felix S. Cohen And The Founding Of American Legal Pluralism By Dalia Tsuk Mitchell, Kevin Washburn

Faculty Scholarship

Felix Cohen and his work and legacy are discussed in several new books, including an important intellectual biography of Cohen by Dalia Tsuk Mitchell. Using the Mitchell biography as a starting point, this essay discusses an important episode in Cohen's life, involving apparent anti-Semitism at the Department of Justice. Because the episode is not fully explored in this otherwise excellent biography, Cohen and his motivations in Indian law remain a mystery in some respects. The essay also discusses some of the paradoxes of Cohen's key involvement in federal Indian policy and the contemporary importance of some of his legacies in …
