Hip-Hop Developmenttm Bridging The Generational Divide For Youth Development, P. Thandi Hicks Harper, Warren A. Rhodes, Duane E. Thomas, George Leary

Journal of Youth Development

Hip-Hop culture in the lives of youth can not be ignored. This research is based on the premise that youth workers who expect ongoing successes must increase their Hip Hop culture competence. The study examined the knowledge of and attitude towards Hip-Hop by educators who participated in a Hip-Hop 101 workshop. Their perceptions relevant to the importance of Hip-Hop awareness and application for positively influencing youth behaviors were also explored. Results revealed that workshop participants significantly increased their Hip-Hop knowledge. They also demonstrated significantly more favorable attitudes toward Hip-Hop and its use for youth development. Findings suggest that the workshop …

Minority Student Success In Nursing Education, Marjorie Campbell Oct 2007

Minority Student Success In Nursing Education, Marjorie Campbell

UNM Gallup Faculty Publications

All minority populations are underrepresented in nursing when compared to the general population. Minority and nontraditional nursing students have lower retention and persistence rates as, well as lower NCLEX-RN® pass rates than white non-Hispanic nursing students. A variety of methods have been used to predict nursing student success and numerous interventions to improve student success have been reported. A review of these strategies reveals the necessity of thoughtful curricular and program approaches to increase the rate of success among nursing students. The Caring Imperative is proposed as a theoretical basis for these approaches.

The Effects Of Mentoring On The Elementary Special Education Mentor, Maria Angeliadis Oct 2007

The Effects Of Mentoring On The Elementary Special Education Mentor, Maria Angeliadis

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Increasingly, mentor programs are being developed in teacher education programs to assist novice teachers. The focus in most of the literature on mentoring is on the new teacher being mentored. While the mentor teacher appears to be the most crucial element in mentoring programs (Feinman-Nemser, 1992; Little, 1990; White, 1995), there is not much information about how a teacher experiences being a mentor or the perceived benefits to a mentor.

The purpose of this present study was to examine the effects of mentoring on mentors in order to: (a) address the gap in the literature by exploring the effects of …
