Stochastic Models For Enhancing Agility Of Supply Chains, Alok K. Verma Jan 2007

Stochastic Models For Enhancing Agility Of Supply Chains, Alok K. Verma

Engineering Technology Faculty Publications

This paper deals with the application of stochastic inventory model to the three-tier supply chain and verifying the values obtained by mathematical model with discrete event simulation. We investigate three-stage serial supply chain with stochastic demand and fixed replenishment lead-time. Inventory holding costs are charged at each stage, and each stage may incur a consumer backorder penalty cost charged by primary supplier to secondary supplier. The customer-demand follows Poisson distribution. We implement Base Stock model for inventory control at both suppliers. Computer simulation is then designed in such a way that it satisfied all the assumptions for mathematical model. Simulation …

Evaluation Of Corrosion Resistant Ferric-Alloys In Chloride Contaminated Concrete, Rodrigo J. Himiob

Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2000 - 2009

The penetration of chloride ions through concrete can compromise the integrity of a structure. The chloride concentration, [Cl-], at which the corrosion process initiates is termed the critical chloride concentration or chloride threshold, [Cl-]th. One of the purposes of this research was to determine the [Cl-]th for various reinforcing alloys. Furthermore, the time-to-corrosion (TIC) was measured to determine the time at which bars become active. Both parameters, [Cl-]th and TTC, were found to be distributed; therefore, statistical analyses were performed to forecast the probability of activity. A new experimental procedure was introduced to increase the TTC data set by electrically …

Juicing The Potato: The Giffen Effect And Market Volatility, Brian Fiske

Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2000 - 2009

The key objective of this thesis is to explain how aggregate agent investment behavior, in the presence of a Giffen Good, leads to excess market volatility. The thesis relies on two microeconomic models. The first model demonstrates how, in the presence of a Giffen Good, the demand curve is discontinuous and upward sloping. By analyzing the demand curve, price regions of potential volatility are identified. Using the first model as a foundation, a second model is introduced in which a speculator trades in a dynamic setting. In this dynamic framework, opportunities for profit making by the speculator are identified. The …

A Study On Random Sum Statistics: Application To Wireless Network Performance Analysis, Suwat Pattaramalai

Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2000 - 2009

The statistics of random sum is studied and used to evaluate performance metrics in wireless networks. Pertinent wireless network performance measures such as call completion/dropping probabilities and the average number of handovers usually require the probability distributions of the cell dwell time and call holding time; and are therefore not easy to evaluate. The proposed performance evaluation technique requires the moments of the cell dwell time and is given in terms of the Laplace transform function of the call holding time. Multimedia services that have Weibull and generalized gamma distributed call holding times are investigated. The proposed approximation method uses …
