Recent Developments In Russian Constitutional And Administrative Law, Sergey A. Belov

International Journal of Legal Information

This article is a brief sketch of recent development of the doctrine and practice in Russian constitutional and administrative law. The focus is made on the controversial issues of state organization and status of individuals, as well as the realization of legal principles established by the Constitution of the Russian Federation in 1993.

The Constitution of the Russian Federation adopted in 1993 has brought out an essential need for change in the Russian legal and political system. Many principles established by this Constitution were formerly rejected or criticized in the Soviet law (e.g., the principle of separation of powers).

Conflicting Paradigms: Alternative Islamic Approaches To Some Business Ethics, Javed A. Ansari, S. Zeeshan Arshad Jul 2007

Conflicting Paradigms: Alternative Islamic Approaches To Some Business Ethics, Javed A. Ansari, S. Zeeshan Arshad

Business Review

This paper contrasts orthodox and revisionist Islamic approaches to an evaluation of ethical issues related to capitalist marketing, employee management relationships and finance. It argues that while the orthodox Islamic ethical paradigm is fundamentally oppositional to capitalism revisionist discourses provide an Islamic legitimation of capitalist order and can provide an ideological framework for subsuming Islamic economy and society within global capitalism.

Being A Christian Or A Muslim -How?- The Question Is Now, Marko P. Djuric May 2007

Being A Christian Or A Muslim -How?- The Question Is Now, Marko P. Djuric

Occasional Papers on Religion in Eastern Europe

Christianity and Islam can do a great deal for the cause of human justice and interethnic peace. The most important task today is to work on reconciliation and on creating an atmosphere of mutual t1ust. This is the only way in which we can avoid the Balkans being once again, in the future, a region with an "excess of history." But as regards the Church and Islam, they must work on a theology that will ensure mutual respect and eliminate mutual prejudices. However, a theology of this kind has yet to feature in our Eastern Orthodoxy.

“Keeping The Faith Or Not Keeping The Faith? Is The Question In A Western Secular Society, Riyaz Gayasaddin Mar 2007

“Keeping The Faith Or Not Keeping The Faith? Is The Question In A Western Secular Society, Riyaz Gayasaddin

Macalester Islam Journal

Islam in the Western world has been one of the fastest and largest growing religions. However, many Muslims, including myself, have found it difficult to balance the lifestyles between following the path of Islam or straying away from the path. It was not easy for me to be a Muslim growing up in a small Midwest city during my childhood. Even though my parents taught me Islam well it was not the same without any Muslim my age except my sister and brother. After high school and moving to Macalester College, I thought I would be surrounded by a large …

Reading South African Media Representations Of Islam After 11 September 2001, Gabeba Baderoon Mar 2007

Reading South African Media Representations Of Islam After 11 September 2001, Gabeba Baderoon

CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture

In her paper, "Reading South African Media Representations of Islam after 11 September 2001," Gabeba Baderoon probes the resonances of news representations of 11 September 2001. Baderoon examines the events of that day from the perspective of South Africa, arguing that the international media became located and embodied through the representations of the highly visible and grievable deaths of just under three thousand people in the United States. Her analysis reveals a complex view that derives from the legacy of legislated racial discrimination crafted under the policy of Apartheid as well as the presence of Muslims brought as slaves during …

A Study Of Islamic Family Law In Malaysia: A Select Bibliography, Raihana Abdullah Jan 2007

A Study Of Islamic Family Law In Malaysia: A Select Bibliography, Raihana Abdullah

International Journal of Legal Information

Islamic Family Law is one of the most studied fields in Malaysian law. This is because it affects the personal life of Muslims, and because many issues have arisen as a result of the implementation of the Islamic Family Law Enactment which governs Muslims in Malaysia. Scholarship in this area has expanded with the development of the Enactment itself. Several approaches have been used to analyze the implementation of the law inter alia, legal, socio-legal, comparative, and anthropological and sociological perspecitves. It cannot be denied that research and scholarly publications in the field of Islamic Family Law have contributed to …
