Speech Disruption During Delayed Auditory Feedback With Simultaneous Visual Feedback, Jeffery A. Jones, Danielle Streimer
Speech Disruption During Delayed Auditory Feedback With Simultaneous Visual Feedback, Jeffery A. Jones, Danielle Streimer
Psychology Faculty Publications
Delayed auditory feedback (DAF) regarding speech can cause dysfluency. The purpose of this study was to explore whether providing visual feedback in addition to DAF would ameliorate speech disruption. Speakers repeated sentences and heard their auditory feedback delayed with and without simultaneous visual feedback. DAF led to increased sentence durations and an increased number of speech disruptions. Although visual feedback did not reduce DAF effects on duration, a promising but nonsignificant trend was observed for fewer speech disruptions when visual feedback was provided. This trend was significant in speakers who were overall less affected by DAF. The results suggest the …

Department of Child, Youth, and Family Studies: Faculty Publications
Study groups and learning circles can offer a systematic way for early childhood teachers to interact about their work and create a culture of professional development. This paper describes how faculty systematically followed a collaborative co-inquiry process in order to improve a new early childhood interdisciplinary teacher preparation program. The team met on a regular basis throughout one academic year, with the stated objective of infusing observation/documentation knowledge and skills in a coherent and systematic way throughout the students’ program of studies. The group created a template of the cycle of inquiry, which could apply to all courses, and analyzed …

Sediment Flux And Fate In The Mississippi River Diversion At West Bay: Observation Study, T. Mitchell Andrus, Samuel J. Bentley
Sediment Flux And Fate In The Mississippi River Diversion At West Bay: Observation Study, T. Mitchell Andrus, Samuel J. Bentley
Faculty Publications
Land-building sediment diversions, such as the Mississippi River Diversion at West Bay, are being used as important building blocks in the conservation and restoration of Mississippi Delta wetlands. We have studied sediment deposition and retention in the West Bay diversion outfall area through analyses of sediment cores, bathymetry, and hydrodynamics. Cores and x-ray samples were collected at twenty stations in March 2004, August 2004, November 2005, and April 2006. Cores were sub-sampled in 2 cm increments and analyzed for grain size distributions and 7Be activities which can be linked to recent sediment deposition. Bathymetric surveys were conducted in November 2005 …

Rural America In The 21st Century: Perspectives From The Field , Andrea Colnes, Curt D. Grimm, Amy Seif Hattan, Nena F. Stracuzzi
Carsey Publications
Rural America in the twenty-first century must develop new relationships and new ways of doing things to ensure an economically prosperous, socially just, and environmentally healthy future. Tapping into the resourcefulness and creativity of rural people will be essential in addressing this challenge. However, they cannot do it alone. Rural communities need critical infrastructure, investment, capital, and services. The overlapping forces shaping rural America–demographic transitions, economic changes, the legacy of chronic underinvestment in community institutions, and environmental factors—present challenges and opportunities. With the voices and strategies of rural Americans in hand, the Rural Assembly can now move forward toward this …
