Silicon Carbide Biocompatibility, Surface Control And Electronic Cellular Interaction For Biosensing Applications, Camilla Coletti
Silicon Carbide Biocompatibility, Surface Control And Electronic Cellular Interaction For Biosensing Applications, Camilla Coletti
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Cell-semiconductor hybrid systems are a potential centerpiece in the scenery of biotechnological applications. The selection and study of promising crystalline semiconductor materials for bio-sensing applications is at the basis of the development of such hybrid systems. In this work we introduce crystalline SiC as an extremely appealing material for bio-applications. For the first time we report biocompatibility studies of different SiC polytypes whose results document the biocompatibility of this material and its capability of directly interfacing cells without the need of surface functionalization. Since the successful implementation of biosensors requires a good understanding and versatile control of the semiconductor surface …

Implementation Of Uncertainty Propagation In Triton/Keno: To Support The Global Nuclear Energy Partnership, Charlotta Sanders, Denis Beller
Implementation Of Uncertainty Propagation In Triton/Keno: To Support The Global Nuclear Energy Partnership, Charlotta Sanders, Denis Beller
Reactor Campaign (TRP)
Monte Carlo methods are beginning to be used for three-dimensional fuel depletion analyses to compute various quantities of interest, including isotopic compositions of used fuel.1 The TRITON control module, available in the SCALE 5.1 code system, can perform three dimensional (3-D) depletion calculations using either the KENO V.a or KENO-VI Monte Carlo transport codes, as well as the two-dimensional (2- D) NEWT discrete ordinates code. For typical reactor systems, the neutron flux is not spatially uniform. For Monte Carlo simulations, this results in non-uniform statistical uncertainties in the computed reaction rates. For spatial regions where the flux is low, e.g., …

Monaco/Mavric Evaluation For Facility Shielding And Dose Rate Analysis: To Support The Global Nuclear Energy Partnership, Charlotta Sanders, Denis Beller
Reactor Campaign (TRP)
Monte Carlo methods are used to compute fluxes or dose rates over large areas using mesh tallies. For problems that demand that the uncertainty in each mesh cell be less than some set maximum, computation time is controlled by the cell with the largest uncertainty. This issue becomes quite troublesome in deep-penetration problems, and advanced variance reduction techniques are required to obtain reasonable uncertainties over large areas.
In this project the MAVRIC sequence will be evaluated along with the Monte Carlo engine Monaco to investigate its effectiveness and usefulness in facility shielding and dose rate analyses. A previously MCNP-evaluated cask …

Pursuing Democracy: Explaining Political Transitions In Nepal, Prakash Adhikari, James D. Timberlake
Pursuing Democracy: Explaining Political Transitions In Nepal, Prakash Adhikari, James D. Timberlake
Himalayan Research Papers Archive
Nepal has been struggling to consolidate a democratic political system for more than a half-century yet still does not have a working constitution. This paper is the first step in a larger research project examining regime transitions in Nepal. We review the existent comparative literature on democratization and authoritarian reversals in order to isolate some potential explanatory variables. We also focus on making valid descriptive inferences along these conceptual lines. What caused the failure of democracy in Nepal in the past? What are the future prospects for democratic consolidation? The literature has been divided along two lines, which we label …
"Retainer" Bureaucracy: An Impediment To The Process Of Democratic Governance In Nepal, Sucheta Pyakuryal
"Retainer" Bureaucracy: An Impediment To The Process Of Democratic Governance In Nepal, Sucheta Pyakuryal
Himalayan Research Papers Archive
The role of public bureaucracy has been one of the most discussed characteristics of a state, especially if the political system of a particular state is in a developing stage. In Nepal, up to 1990 the absolute power of monarchy was maintained through a traditional or a pre-modern bureaucracy typically comprised of the caste and class elites. Merit was a superficial criterion. According to Riggs (1994) when non-merit appointees are able to retain their status as bureaucrats, they typically become a powerful political force. Compounded by their want of administrative qualifications, they start forming self protective networks in order to …
A Generalized Two-Dimensional Model To Reconstruct The Impact Phase In Automobile Collisions, Regis Agenor David
A Generalized Two-Dimensional Model To Reconstruct The Impact Phase In Automobile Collisions, Regis Agenor David
Theses and Dissertations
Automobile accident reconstruction has been facilitated by the development of computer based modules to allow evaluation of evidence gathered at the accident scenes. Although the computer modules are based in fundamental physical laws, an understanding of these laws by the user is required for proper application of the computer model in a given accident scenario. Vehicle collision analysis techniques generally separate the collision into three phases: pre-impact, impact, and post impact. The intent of the research is to provide a generalized model to reconstruct two dimensional impact problems in the area of accident reconstruction. There are currently two modeling techniques …
