Supporting Data-Intensive Wireless Sensor Applications Using Smart Data Fragmentation And Buffer Management, Mbonisi Masilela Jan 2007

Supporting Data-Intensive Wireless Sensor Applications Using Smart Data Fragmentation And Buffer Management, Mbonisi Masilela

Theses and Dissertations

Recent advances in low power device technology have led to the development of smaller powerful sensors geared for use in Wireless Sensor Networks. Some of these sensors are capable of producing large data packets in a single reading. This becomes a challenging problem given the constraints imposed by current MAC and Transport Layer implementations since a single data packet can exceed the MTU of the protocol stack. Little has been done in the way of addressing this issue in Wireless Sensor Networks. This paper proposes a novel solution to this issue. Proposed is a Lightweight Data Transportation Protocol that uses …

On Optimal Survivability Design In Wdm Optical Networks Under Scheduled Traffic Models, Tianjian Li Jan 2007

On Optimal Survivability Design In Wdm Optical Networks Under Scheduled Traffic Models, Tianjian Li

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks are widely viewed as the most appropriate choice for future Internet backbone with the potential to fulfill the ever-growing demands for bandwidth. WDM divides the enormous bandwidth of an optical fiber into many non-overlapping wavelength channels, each of which may operate at the rate of 10 Gigabit per second or higher. A failure in a network such as a cable cut may result in a tremendous loss of data. Therefore, survivability is a very important issue in WDM optical networks. The objective of this dissertation is to address the survivability provisioning problem in WDM …

An Initial Methodology For The Definition And Implementation Of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Agent Behaviors, William Eric Marsh Jan 2007

An Initial Methodology For The Definition And Implementation Of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Agent Behaviors, William Eric Marsh

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

In many current agent-based modeling systems, it is difficult for a domain-expert user to define and implement agent behaviors without possessing extensive programming knowledge. MUAVES is an existing simulation environment that serves as a research testbed for examining command and control issues with unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems containing many vehicle agents. In its previous form, defining agent behaviors required knowledge of the C# programming language that some MUAVES users did not have. This thesis presents a new methodology for the definition and implementation of UAV agent behaviors in MUAVES. The new methodology is based on diagramming an agent's controller …

Implementation For A Coherent Keyword-Based Xml Query Language, Venkatakalyan Potturi Jan 2007

Implementation For A Coherent Keyword-Based Xml Query Language, Venkatakalyan Potturi

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

Due to the increasing pervasiveness of data sets using the XML data format, numerous query languages have been proposed that exploit the structure inherent in XML. Many such query languages, supported by specialized XML search engines, are complex and not suitable for naive users. A simple keyword based query language is described which not only exploits the structure of XML documents to extract relevant fragments, but can also fall back on retrieval through plain text search. This thesis focuses on developing a prototype implementation for a Coherent Keyword Based XML Query Language. It analyzes the typical challenges posed by the …

Transformation Of Formally Defined Post-Conditions Into Target Language Statements, Swetha Padma Parvathaneni Jan 2007

Transformation Of Formally Defined Post-Conditions Into Target Language Statements, Swetha Padma Parvathaneni

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

For years software engineering researchers have been trying to come up with a software synthesis system that can transform a formal specification model into a design model from which executable code can be generated. AFIT Wide Spectrum Object Modeling Environment (AWSOME) is one such formal based software synthesis system. In this system formal specifications written in AWL are parsed into an AST (Abstract Syntax Tree). The intent of this thesis is to demonstrate the transformation of the postconditions of a method into target language statements. The methods in the classes are specified using pre-conditions and post-conditions. Transforms are developed to …

A Gnu Radio Based Software-Defined Radar, Lee K. Patton Jan 2007

A Gnu Radio Based Software-Defined Radar, Lee K. Patton

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

GNU Radio is an open source software-defined radio project, and the Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) is hardware designed specifically for use with GNU Radio. Together, these two technologies have been used to implement very sophisticated, yet low cost, software-defined radios. Since software-defined radio and software-defined radar are really one in the same technologies, it stands to reason that GNU Radio and the USRP could be utilized to form a low cost radar sensor. In this thesis, we discuss the design of a prototype software-defined radar, built using the open source GNU Radio and open specification USRP projects. The prototype …

Role-Based Access Control For The Open Grid Services Architecture - Data Access And Integration (Ogsa-Dai), Anil L. Pereira

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

Grid has emerged recently as an integration infrastructure for the sharing and coordinated use of diverse resources in dynamic, distributed virtual organizations (VOs). A Data Grid is an architecture for the access, exchange, and sharing of data in the Grid environment. In this dissertation, role-based access control (RBAC) systems for heterogeneous data resources in Data Grid systems are proposed. The Open Grid Services Architecture - Data Access and Integration (OGSA-DAI) is a widely used framework for the integration of heterogeneous data resources in Grid systems.

However, in the OGSA-DAI system, access control causes substantial administration overhead for resource providers in …

Optimal Eeg Channels And Rhythm Selection For Task Classification, Vikramvarun Kannan Adikarapatti Jan 2007

Optimal Eeg Channels And Rhythm Selection For Task Classification, Vikramvarun Kannan Adikarapatti

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

The Primary Objective of this research is to implement an automatic method for selecting the most optimal EEG channels for task classification purposes. The secondary objective of this research is to choose the most optimal EEG rhythm from which the optimal EEG channels would be selected automatically. The automatic selection of the optimal channels is enabled by implementing the Common Spatial Patterns algorithm (CSP). Common spatial analysis is performed on the data recorded. By choosing the channels with high spatial pattern values the optimal channels are chosen. The optimal frequency bands are chosen by splitting the data from a single …
